The Risk of Uncomplicated Peptic Ulcer in a Cohort of Secondary Prevention Aspirin Users

Uncomplicated Peptic Ulcer

This study is conducted in a cohort of low dose aspirin (ASA) users previously ascertained. The aims of the post hoc analyses are: To estimate the incidence of uncomplicated peptic ulcer (UPU) in a cohort of low-dose ASA for secondary prevention of vascular disease and the relative risk of UPU associated with use and discontinuation of use of low dose ASA. To estimate the effect of proton pump inhibitors (PPI) on the occurrence of UPU among users of low-dose ASA for secondary prevention of vascular disease To evaluate the effect of other risk factors on the occurrence of UPU among users of low-dose ASA for secondary prevention of vascular disease.

The Selection Criteria for the Second-look Endoscopy Among Patients With Bleeding Peptic Ulcers...

Peptic Ulcer Hemorrhage

The purpose of this prospective study is to identify risk factors which could predict poor fading of SRH or early recurrent bleeding of peptic ulcer hemorrhage after successful endoscopic hemostasis and high-dose PPI infusion. These risk factors will be the selection criteria for patients who are indicated to receive second-look endoscopy.

The Dissemination of Consensus Recommendations on Upper Gastrointestinal Bleeding

Peptic Ulcer Hemorrhage

The purpose of this study is to assess whether adherence to NVUGIB guidelines is improved with implementation of a national, tailored multifaceted intervention. Outcomes include adherence rates to two key endoscopic and pharmacological therapy guidelines together (primary), or adherence to these individually as well as to other recommendations (secondary). Patient outcomes and economic data are also assessed (tertiary).

Serum Zinc, Peptic Ulcer Disease and H. Pylori Infection

Peptic Ulcer Disease

Fifty consecutive patients with symptoms suggestive of peptic ulcer disease were included. All underwent complete clinical evaluation, laboratory investigations, upper gastrointestinal endoscopy and rapid urease test. Measurement of serum zinc level was done for all the included patients in addition to twenty five age and sex matched healthy control subjects.

Prevention of Gastric Ulcer Bleeding by Using "Computer-alert" in General Practice

Bleeding Peptic Ulcer

The purpose of this study is to investigate if a computerised decision-support tool used in general practice, can reduce the frequency of peptic ulcer bleeding related to the use of NSAIDs (Non-Steroidal-antiinflammatory-drug) and ASA( Acetylsalicylic acid) . On the basis of "The Danish general medical database" it is possible to develope a computerised decision-support tool, which enables the general practitioner (GP) in a "pop-up" window to get information on each patients risk-factors, when prescribing NSAID and aspirin to a patient at risk. This will give the general practitioner the oppurtunity to choose a different type of preparation or prescribe ulcer-preventive medicine at the same time. The decision-support tool will be tested in a randomized trial among general practitioners. The aim is to reduce the occurence of peptic ulcer bleeding. The expected outcome is a reduction in half of the total numbers of peptic ulcers.

Management of Perforated Peptic Ulcer

Perforated Peptic Ulcer

Perforated peptic ulcer (PPU) is a common surgical emergency. Exploratory laparotomy and repair with the omental patch are routine surgical intervention till now. In developing counties, laparoscopic repair is still not considered the gold standard in this emergency condition. This study was conducted to evaluate laparoscopic management of PPU in terms of peri-operative outcomes.
