Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (tDCS) on Working Memory in College Going Students

Working Memory Deficits

Working memory deficiencies, might make it difficult for students to recall instructions, complete complex activities, and grasp and follow directions solving a math problem or writing a sentence. The functions of working memory are critical for effective human activity. Transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) has grown in popularity and academic interest in recent years as a way to improve cognitive abilities. so there is need to determine the effect of tdcs on working memory in college going students.

Digitally-enhanced, Decentralized, Multi-omics Observational Cohort

Presymptomatic DiseaseMild Cognitive Impairment5 more

The study is carried out as part of the GR2021 Priority project "Healthy Brains for life (Age 20-99): Digitally-enhanced personalized medicine study ANANEOS" and code numbered GR-00546 and it will look at the decentralized and remote assessment of the symptoms of preclinical stages in Alzheimer's disease and movement disorders, e.g. Parkinson's. For this study we are looking for participants aged over 45 without cognitive complaints or with subjective perception of cognitive decline or with mild cognitive complaints. Specific aims for the proposed study: a) to develop novel sensitive measures that can provide an early identification of those SCD and MCI individuals harboring AD pathology that are at high risk of cognitive worsening over time; b) to track pre-motor stages in Parkinson's disease and trials that enable active digital functional biomarkers; c) to track disease progression during pre-dementia and pre-motor stages in clinical practice and trials with measures that enable to capture subtle changes.

Treating Verbal Memory Deficits Following Chemotherapy for Breast Cancer

Breast Cancer TreatmentCognitive Deficits

The primary purpose of this study is to test the effects of a targeted, computerized cognitive training program on verbal memory in older women who have undergone chemotherapy treatment for early-stage breast cancer. As measured by neuropsychological assessment, this treatment will result in improved verbal memory. Secondarily, processing speed and naming abilities are expected to improve. Enhanced self-perception of cognitive ability is also expected.

Brain Health Program for Older Adults With Subjective Cognitive Decline

Memory Loss (Excluding Dementia)Healthy Lifestyle1 more

The investigators will compare two brain health programs in older adults with subjective cognitive decline and lifestyle risk factors for dementia. The primary aim of the study is to determine the credibility, expectancy, feasibility, acceptability, appropriateness, fidelity, and satisfaction of the programs.

Neural Correlates of Psychiatric Disorders

Psychiatric DisorderMemory Disorders

This ClincialTrials.gov record originally corresponded to the protocol approved under IRB # 202370. The study was expanded to include stimulation and recordings approved under new IRB #211037. The participant data originally acquired from IRB# 202370 will be included in this new record: This study seeks to better understand the neural activity underlying neuro cognitive disorders. Resting state local field potential recordings will be collected from medically refractory epilepsy patients implanted with depth electrodes for seizure localization, and metrics of neural activity will be correlated with psychiatric symptoms as measured from questionnaires. Subjects will also participate in neuro cognitive tasks while neural recordings are performed, and/or receive neural stimulation through implanted depth electrodes. A better understanding of disordered neural activity underlying neuropsychiatric disorders may additionally contribute to novel methods for diagnosing, treating, and preventing these diseases.

Alzheimer's Disease Core Center

Alzheimer's DiseaseMild Cognitive Impairment1 more

The main objective of this research project is to provide a comprehensive clinical database of patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD) and other forms of dementia, individuals with mild cognitive impairment (MCI), and age-matched normal controls. The study will also attempt to identify cognitively normal individuals at genetically defined risk for Alzheimer's disease through genetic screening. All participants are seen annually. Autopsies to establish diagnoses in patients with dementia, patients with mild MCI, and cognitively normal elderly control subjects will also be conducted.

Investigation of AlzHeimer's Predictors in Subjective Memory Complainers - Extension Study

Alzheimer DiseaseMemory Complaint1 more

A regional, single-center, prospective, observational academic cohort will follow subjects who previously participated in the INSIGHT study and who agree an extension of their follow-up in the INSIGHT-2 research for additional 5-6 years. An annual multimodal evaluation (cognitive, oculomotor, biological and neuroimaging) will be proposed in order to describe the natural history of preclinical Alzheimer's disease (AD). The primary endpoint is the conversion to the symptomatic stage in subjects at risk, identified by positive amyloid staining (A+) on florbetapir positron emission tomography (PET) imaging. The size of the cohort is estimated to around 240 participants (61 A+ subjects) among the 318 participants included in the main cohort (88 A+ subjects). The follow-up in the INSIGHT-2 cohort will be lightened compared to that of the main cohort with an annual frequency of visits rather than a six-monthly one.

Remote Game-based Exercise Program for Cognitive and Motor Function Improvement

Mild Cognitive ImpairmentDementia2 more

As our population ages, more older adults face motor-cognitive declines, increasing their risk of falls and fear of falling. Exercise is an effective way to maintain cognitive function, as supported by recent studies. However, those with poor motor and cognitive abilities often struggle to visit rehabilitation centers, leading to high dropout rates and low adherence to unsupervised programs. A remote exercise program tailored for individuals with cognitive impairments is urgently needed to preserve cognitive function, promote independent living, and reduce related costs. Researchers aim to develop an in-home system for adults with mild cognitive issues or dementia, designed to improve balance and cognition while being remotely supervised through telemedicine.

Effectiveness of Home-based Electronic Cognitive Therapy in Alzheimer's Disease

Memory DisordersMild Cognitive Impairment1 more

The current study will examine the use of a mobile electronic application used to deliver cognitive rehabilitation to patients with mild cognitive impairment due (MCI) due to Alzheimer's disease (AD), and patients with mild AD. Patients will be given a specific cognitive rehabilitation program on their mobile device (iPad) with specific tasks for them to complete. The goal of this study is to determine if a) patients are able to use and adhere to a cognitive rehabilitation program delivered to their mobile device and b) to determine if patients can improve their language, attention, and memory by completing cognitive rehabilitation tasks assigned to them.
