Study of NeisVac-C Vaccine to Evaluate Immunological Interference With Hepatitis B, Inactivated...

MeningitisMeningococcal

The primary aim of the study is to show that NeisVac-C does not influence the seroconversion rates induced by hepatitis B (Hep B), inactivated polio (IPV) and acellular pertussis (aP) vaccines in infants.

Precision Diagnosis of Acute Infectious Diseases; Neuroinflammatory Cohort

EncephalitisMeningitis

This study aims to use a clinically validated metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS) assay to provide a demonstration of precision medicine for diagnosis of acute infectious disease in hospitalized patients. From June 2016 to June 2017, 200 patients will be enrolled from multiple hospitals in California and outside of California. Patients will be evaluated to determine the impact on the mNGS assay on diagnostic yield, hospital costs and clinical outcomes.

Study of Meningococcal B Vaccine and ACWY Conjugate Vaccine in Healthy Adults

Meningococcal MeningitisSerogroup A8 more

The study involves the measurement of immune response to vaccination with three doses of a meningococcal B vaccine and a single dose of a meningococcal ACYW conjugate vaccine in healthy adults (Laboratory workers). The study will be completed at the Manchester Medical Microbiology Partnership in the UK and will enrol staff who may be at potential occupational exposure to meningococci. Blood samples will be taken before and after each vaccination and used to determine if the vaccines induce protective responses.

Assessment of Antibody Persistence at Eighteen Months After the Completion of the Vaccination Course...

Meningococcal DiseaseMeningococcal Meningitis

This was a Phase 2b/3, multi-center, extension study of V72P10 to assess antibody persistence at 18 months after the vaccination course in study V72P10 (NCT00661713). Subjects who participated in study V72P10, and who meet all other enrollment criteria for this extension study, and a group of naïve subjects (defined as subjects who had never received rMenB+OMV NZ or other experimental MenB vaccines) of similar age to the subjects who were eligible to participate in this extension study, performed one study visit in which a single blood sample was drawn for MenB serological analyses.

Operational Research for Cryptococcal Antigen Screening

Cryptococcal MeningitisCryptococcus Neoformans1 more

This will be a stepped wedge randomized trial design to evaluate the implementation of cryptococcal antigen (CRAG) screening and preemptive anti-fungal therapy of HIV-infected persons entering antiretroviral therapy (ART) outpatient treatment in Uganda. Those who are ART eligible with a CD4≤100 cells/mcL will have a serum/plasma CRAG performed by lateral flow assay. Those who are CRAG-positive and asymptomatic will be treated with high dose fluconazole. After 6 months survival with retention-in-care will be compared between those who are CRAG+ and CRAG negative

Immunogenicity and Safety of MenACWY in Infants (6 & 12 Months)

Meningococcal Meningitis

To assess the immunogenicity of Novartis (formerly Chiron) Meningococcal ACWY conjugate vaccine (MenACWY) when administered as a two-dose schedule at 6 and 12 months of age.

Persistence of Antibodies in Adolescents and Adults 15 to 23 Years Who Received One Dose of Menactra®...

MeningitisMeningococcal Infection

The study is designed to evaluate the persistence of bactericidal antibodies in subjects aged 15 to 23 years (not yet 24 years) who had been vaccinated five years previously in Study MTA02 and did not participate in Study MTA19 (NCT 00777790). In addition, the kinetics of the antibody response will be evaluated in a subset of these participants who will receive a booster dose of Menactra® vaccine. This will be compared to aged matched control subjects who have not been previously vaccinated with a meningococcal vaccine or had documented meningitis disease who will also receive a dose of Menactra® vaccine.

Increasing Healthcare Engagement Via Routine Vaccination Among Young Black Men Who Have Sex With...

MeningitisHPV - Anogenital Human Papilloma Virus Infection1 more

Vaccine-preventable diseases such as hepatitis A and meningitis, as well as cancers caused by human papillomavirus (HPV) disproportionately impact young Black men who have sex with men (YBMSM). Traditional techniques of vaccination promotion have been unable to address the racial disparities in vaccination rates. One promising method for influencing behavior change within YBMSM networks is diffusion of information through Popular Opinion Leaders (POLs). The POL model engages persons who are leaders within their own networks/communities to promote behavior change. The objective of this project is to develop and pilot test a POL intervention to increase routine HAV, HPV and meningococcal conjugate vaccination among YBMSM, ages 18-26. research (PAR) framework to facilitate community support and ensure intervention strategies are salient. PAR includes community members as equal collaborators in the research process. Outcomes from these aims are expected to have an impact on health outcomes by identifying effective strategies for increasing vaccination and routine healthcare engagement among YBMSM.

Neurologic Manifestations of the Arbovirus Infection in Colombia

EncephalitisMyelitis7 more

This is a multi-center case-control study that aims to define the association between the exposure to an arbovirus infection and the development of a neurological syndrome in patients from Colombia. The study makes part of the Neurovirus Emerging in the Americas Study (NEAS) that is a collaborative effort that looks to combine the efforts of researchers, healthcare providers and patients in Colombia to establish a comprehensive registry of the clinical, radiological and laboratory profile of patients with new onset of neurological diseases associated mosquito-borne viruses, known as arboviruses.
