Observational Study of Blood Glucose Levels and Gut Microbiota in Healthy Individuals
Nutritional and Metabolic DiseasesEndocrine System Diseases1 moreCategorization of glucose levels into 'healthy', 'pre-diabetic' or 'diabetic' is increasingly seen as artificial. Furthermore, most micro and macrovascular complications may be present already at the pre-diabetic stage. Hyperglycemia, pre-diabetes and impaired glucose tolerance (IGT) are fully reversible, thus, maintaining normal blood sugar levels is crucial for the prevention and control of diabetes and the various other consequences of the metabolic syndrome. Only interventions that are individually tailored can achieve proper glycemic control, and the glycemic index (GI), which quantifies the glycemic response to particular foods, was developed for this purpose. In this study the investigators will characterize the blood glucose responses and microbiota of healthy individuals, aiming to assess the influence of food intake on gut microbiota and the influence of gut microbiota on glycemic responses.
Correlation of Glucose and Lipid Metabolism Levels With Vitiligo
Metabolism DisorderGlucose3 moreThe goal of this observational study is to compare serum glucose and lipid metabolism levels between health volunteers and vitiligo patients. The main question it aims to answer is whether vitiligo is related to glucose and lipid metabolism disorders. Participants will complete a vitiligo questionnaire and test serum levels of indicators related to glucose and lipid metabolism. Researchers will compare vitiligo patients with healthy volunteers to see if there is a correlation between vitiligo and disorders of glucose and lipid metabolism.
Effect of a Carbohydrate-rich Diet in Healthy Subjects
Lipid Metabolism DisorderThe present research protocol will analyze whether a short-term modification (one week) of dietary habits would have an impact on the postprandial metabolism of dietary fatty acids and on their uptake by non-adipose tissues, in healthy subjects. Each subject will participate in two protocols randomly determined and separated by a period of one month: a 7-day isocaloric diet (Protocol A) and a 7-day carbohydrate-rich diet containing +50% of the subject's energy needs. (Protocol B). At the end of each diet, the subject will go through a postprandial metabolic study of 8 hours where different parameters will be measured thanks to PET imaging and perfusions of stables isotopes.
Pharmacokinetics Study of Gamma-aminobutyric Acid
Diabetes MellitusDiabetes Mellitus6 moreThe purpose of this study is to determine upon administering GABA orally to a person how it is absorbed, distributed, as well as the drug's pharmacological effects on the body such as glucose levels, serum C-peptide and/or insulin levels (referred to as pharmacokinetics/pharmacodynamics). We will conduct experiments in normal subjects to address these questions.
Pre-operative Blood Lipid Level and Post-operative Major Adverse Cardiac Event
Lipid Metabolism DisordersPostoperative ComplicationsWhether the pre-operative blood lipid level and post-operative cardiovascular events is associated is unknown. This study is to find out the main blood lipid and relative protein level change and the post-operative cardiovascular events occurrence.
Evaluation of Arginine in Periodontal and Cardiovascular Disease
Metabolic DisorderArginine; HyperaminoaciduriaAsymmetric dimethylarginine (ADMA) plays a key role in endothelial function and may be a link for the known interaction of periodontitis and coronary heart disease (CHD). The investigators compared the impact of gingival health, periodontitis (CP), CHD or of both diseases (CP+CHD) on saliva and serum ADMA levels.
Monitoring the Hyperammonaemia:TOXicity of Drugs (AmmoTOX)
HyperammonemiaMetabolic Disease2 moreSeveral drugs and chemotherapies seem to have an impact on the metabolic system. This study investigates reports of metabolic toxicities such as hyperammonemia, including the International classification of disease ICD-10 for treatments in the World Health Organization (WHO) global Individual Case Safety Report (ICSR) database (VigiBase).
Glucose, Activity, Diet, & Sleep Assessment Study
Metabolism DisorderGlucoseGLADS is a cross-sectional, observational study assessing free-living diet, physical activity, sleep, and glucose profile over a 2-week period in healthy adult men and women.
Lipid Metabolism in Obese Subjects Undergoing Bariatric Surgery
Bariatric Surgery CandidateLipid Metabolism Disorders1 moreThe aim of the study is to evaluate modifications in the metabolism of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) and biosynthesis of the lipid mediators N-acylethanolamines (NAE), both known to induce and be induced by the nuclear peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor (PPAR)-α, which may also explain the well-established improved lipid and energy metabolism after bariatric surgery. The study is focused on understanding the weight loss mechanisms in order to develop targeted dietary protocols.
Incidence of Diabetes and Metabolic Disorders After TIPS in Cirrhotic Patients
Cirrhosis PortalDecompensated cirrhosis is associated with sarcopenia. TIPS is an efficient treatment of portal hypertension. Based on our retrospective data, TIPS induces in 30% of cirrhotic patients metabolic disorders associated with diabetes or pre-diabetes. The main objective is to measure the cumulative incidence of diabetes and pre-diabetes 6 months after TIPS insertion.
