Reducing Metabolic Syndrome Among Breast Cancer Survivors

Breast Cancer

Using a pilot 1-arm pre-post design, investigators will implement an intervention that is personalized, low burden (the majority of interactions are telephone coaching sessions), and delivered during the initial survivorship transition. To determine the feasibility of the intervention 48 community-dwelling rural breast cancer survivors (BCS) (ages 40 and older) will receive the intervention. The 12-week intervention consists of three home-based face-to-face consultations with the therapist, 9 weekly habit tele phone coaching sessions, and the use of implementation intentions, environmental modifications, and tailored text messages to support physical activity and dietary habit formation and address unmet needs.

The Impact of Low-fat and Full-fat Dairy Consumption on Glucose Homeostasis (DAIRY Study)

Insulin ResistanceMetabolic Syndrome4 more

This randomized controlled feeding trial aims to determine whether the consumption of different amounts and types of dairy products affects blood sugar regulation and cardiometabolic health in men and women with the metabolic syndrome.

Canola Oil Multicentre Intervention Trial

Metabolic Syndrome

The purpose of the study is to examine how the consumption of different dietary oil varieties affects a broad range of metabolic responses that are important in the development of cardiovascular diseases. This study will examine the relationship between dietary oil consumption and arterial function, blood fat content, and blood markers of cardiovascular disease risk. Additionally, the efficiency of the body in converting fat from dietary oils into other specific fat compounds with know health benefits will be examined. Also, the correlation between psychosocial parameters and vascular function will be studied.

Exercise,Metabolic Syndrome and Weight Regain (Echocardiography Substudy)

Metabolic SyndromeObesity

We plan to test the hypothesis that patients with metabolic syndrome will have impaired left ventricular diastolic parameters. These parameters will be measured before and after a stress test at the end of a 3 month period of exercise training and a 10% weight loss.

Sitagliptin Prophylaxis for Glucocorticoid-Induced Impairment of Glucose Metabolism in Males With...

Diabetes MellitusSteroid Diabetes2 more

The investigators will assess whether the DPP-inhibitor sitagliptin will ameliorate glucocorticoid-induced impairment of glucose metabolism and beta-cell dysfunction and thus could be used as a prophylaxis for glucocorticoid-induced diabetes. Therefore the investigators will administer in males with the metabolic syndrome 30 mg prednisolone daily for two weeks and give simultaneously sitagliptin 100 mg daily. Subjects will undergo at baseline and after two weeks of treatment several tests to assess changes in glucose metabolism.

Exercise Training and Hepatic Metabolism in Overweight/Obese Adolescent

ObesityMetabolic Syndrome X4 more

The HEPAFIT Study aims to examine whether a 6-months physical education program has benefits on hepatic metabolism and cardiovascular health as well as on selected physical fitness and mental health outcomes among adolescent overweight/obese from Bogota, Colombia.

Weight Loss Diet in Obesity With Metabolic Syndrome

ObesityDiet Modification

Concomitant interventions included lifestyle modification with a personally tailored program of diet as detailed below and physical activity adjusted for age and specific physical limitations, targeting engagement in physical activity of at least 150 minutes/week. Lipid lowering and or blood pressure lowering drugs were prescribed as needed according to guideline-assisted medical practice. Patients were seen by a physician every 3 month. The dietitian had a weekly meeting with the patients for the first three months, every other week during months 4-6, once a month during month 7-9 and every 6 weeks during the last three months of the study.

Individualized Maternal Milk Fortification for Feeding the Preterm Infants

Metabolic Syndrome

Neonatal nutrition has to face a contradictory and conflicting nutritional regimen like a high percentage of amino acids from the first day of life in order to achieve normal neurodevelopment versus metabolic complications (insulin resistance, hyperglycemia, increased visceral fat) that this type feeding, in conjunction with complexity of prematurity, is likely to cause. Current study aims to investigate is whether individualized fortification of breast milk protein, based on the mother's milk protein content and targeting the recommended daily protein requirements, is associated with better nutrition, growth, biochemical and endocrine markers associated with the nutrition of preterm low birth weight neonates, compared to the standard fortification of human milk.

Impact of Consuming Plant Sterols on Endothelial Function and Blood Pressure

Cardiovascular DiseasesEndothelial Dysfunction2 more

The purpose of the research is to assess the impact of co-consuming plant sterols-enriched food product as part of a healthy eating pattern diet on endothelial function (brachial artery FMD, vasodilation-related and vasoconstriction-related biomarkers) and blood pressure management (24-hour ambulatory and classic blood pressure) in Singapore individuals with MetS.
