Aprepitant to Mitigate Opioids' Cognitive Side Effects

Cognitive Dysfunction

Morphine and similar substances (called opioids) are often prescribed for moderate to severe pain, such as after a surgery, thus allowing for minimal pain and a better recovery. Unfortunately various, non-dangerous side effects from opioids occur often that limit the way patients feel and can take of themselves, despite otherwise good pain control and minimal limitations from the surgery itself.

The Efficacy of Butylphthalide Soft Capsules in Patents With VCIND

Vascular Cognitive Impairment no Dementia

Vascular cognitive impairment no dementia (VCIND) is very common among the aged and tends to progress to dementia, but there have been no proper large-scale intervention trials dedicated to it. VCIND caused by subcortical ischemic small vessel disease (hereinafter, subcortical VCIND) represents a relatively homogeneous disease process and is a suitable target for therapeutic trials investigating VCIND. Preclinical trials showed that Butylphthalide Soft Capsules is effective for cognitive impairment of vascular origin. In this randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial, the investigators apply fMRI study the effects of Butylphthalide Soft Capsules in patients with VCIND.

Trial of Novel Oral Zinc Cysteine Preparation in Alzheimer's Disease

Alzheimer's DiseaseMild Cognitive Impairment

This trial aims to test the hypothesis that 1) a single dose of zinc cysteine in a proprietary gastro-retentive form will produce sustained blood levels of zinc giving a larger bioavailable amount of zinc than an FDA approved preparation of inorganic zinc acetate; and 2) that the zinc cysteine gastro-retentive, sustained-release preparation will be better tolerated with significantly less gastrointestinal side effects than the zinc acetate capsules. The trial also tests the hypothesis that, after 6 months of once daily administration, the zinc cysteine subjects will show reduced serum non-ceruloplasmin copper. Additionally, subjects will perform tests of mental function, including the dementia rating scale, the Mini Mental Status Examination and the ADAS-cognitive performance test aimed at Alzheimer's status assessment. Tests will be administered at baseline, 3 and 6 months, and the performance results compared. Care-giver assessments will also be noted.

Tolerability, Safety and Efficacy of the H1-coil Deep Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation in Subjects...

Schizophrenia

Objectives:The purpose of the study is to explore the efficacy and safety of H1-Coil deep brain rTMS in subjects with negative symptoms and cognitive deficits of schizophrenia (deficit syndrome), currently treated with atypical antipsychotics. Patient Population: The intention is to treat 45 patients diagnosed with schizophrenia, who are currently suffering mainly from negative symptoms and cognitive deficits (deficit syndrome). The patients will be of all racial, ethnic and gender categories, ranging from 18 to 65 years of age, and have PANSS negative≥21 and PANSS positive<24. Patients will be recruited from both academic and private research centers. Structure: The study is a randomized, prospective, 8 weeks, double blind study. Blinding: The treatment administrator and the study personnel and patients will be masked to the treatment being administrated. Concurrent Control: The study group will receive active rTMS treatment and the control group will receive an inactive, sham treatment.

Dopaminergic Enhancement of Learning and Memory in Healthy Adults and Patients With Dementia/Mild...

Alzheimer's DiseaseMild Cognitive Impairment1 more

This study aims to determine whether levodopa is effective in boosting learning and memory in healthy subjects and patients with dementia or Mild Cognitive Impairment. We also examine in healthy subjects using functional magnetic resonance imaging which brain regions mediate improved learning after levodopa administration.

Effect of Action Observation Training on Gait Variables and Global Cognitive Functions

Mild Cognitive Impairment

This study will investigate the effect of Action Observation Teaining (AOT) on gait variables and global cognitive functions in older adults with mild cognitive impairment (MCI). The specific objectives are 1) to compare gait variables and global cognitive functions among the AOT with gait training, gait training, and control groups at before training, after training, and follow up and 2) to compare gait variables and global cognitive functions among before training, after training, and follow up in each of the groups.

Aspirin as an add-on Treatment of Refractory Epilepsy in Tuberous Sclerosis Complex

Tuberous Sclerosis ComplexAspirin3 more

There had been much evidence in aspirin controlling tumorous conditions conducted by basic researches, especially through mammilian target of rapamycin (mTOR) pathway. The investigator observed efficacy of aspirin in the treatment of tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) in one child who got Kawasaki disease and in the addition four TSC patients with epilepsy. The investigator intend to evaluate whether aspirin would be an effective add-on treatment in TSC patients with refractory seizures.

Frail Elderly SyndromeCognitive Impairment

Randomized Controlled trial of 370 aged participants over 75 years old coming from clinics of Geriatric Departments in three University Hospitals in Spain (Pamplona, Getafe y San Sebastián). Participants who met inclusion criteria will be randomized to control (usual care)l or intervention group (multicomponent exercise program). The main objective of the trial is to study the effect of a multicomponent exercise training program (resistance, aerobic, strength, balance and flexibility) in frail aged participants who live in the community with cognitive decline in: functional capacity, strength, power, cognition, falls , depression, quality of life, institutionalization and hospital admissions
