Biochemical Diagnostics of Mild Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and Concussion in Children and Adolescents...
Brain InjuriesTraumaticThe study will enroll children and adolescents (0 - 17 years) suspected of having concussion or mild traumatic brain injury (TBI). Samples of urine and saliva will be collected from the patients as well as from corresponding age- and gender-adjusted healthy controls.
An Intervention Program to Reduce to the Risk of Persistent Symptoms After Concussion
Mild Traumatic Brain InjuryThis study investigates how well a new therapy program prevents persistent symptoms (e.g., headaches, fatigue, irritability, etc.) after concussion. The program involves examining beliefs about concussion and learning healthy coping strategies, and is completed with the first three months post-injury.
The Effect of Mild Traumatic Brain Injury on Recovery From Injury
Traumatic Brain InjuryTrauma2 moreMild traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a common injury that can produce significant functional sequelae and ongoing disabling symptoms. Predicting who will have an uncomplicated recovery and who will suffer ongoing symptoms is difficult. This protocol evaluates the use of neuropsychologic testing after mild TBI in injured patients to attempt to objectively establish predictors of long term disability and functional recovery.
Comparison of Concussion Education Programs
ConcussionBrainImportance: Concussion underreporting leads to delays in diagnosis and treatment, resulting in prolonged recovery. Athletes' report of concussion symptoms is therefore an important component of risk reduction. Numerous educational interventions to improve concussion knowledge and reporting exist. Objective: Evaluate the comparative efficacy of three concussion education programs in improving concussion-reporting intention. Design: Randomized clinical trial conducted from August 2018 to October 2018, with assessment before, immediately after, and one-month after educational intervention.
Controlled DTI Evaluations in High School Football and Female Soccer to Evaluate Efficacy of Jugular...
MTBI - Mild Traumatic Brain InjuryConcussion1 moreThe purpose of the study is to monitor longitudinal changes in brain structure between the preseason and postseason, in a population of football and soccer playing athletes wearing the Device and compared to a similar population not wearing the device. Secondly, the purpose is to determine the efficacy of device to reduce alterations in brain structure relative to amount and magnitude of sustained head impacts. Finally, to show that DTI efficacy and safety results can be prospectively confirmed in a multi-school investigation. Test the null hypotheses of no difference between collar users and non-collar users changes from baseline to end of season for: Primary: Alterations in pre-defined DTI metrics (AD, MD, RD) are significantly reduced in the neck collar group at EOS relative to BL. Secondary: Alterations in pre-defined DTI metrics is explained by the number of hits, the hit intensity, and the intensity per head impact over the season non-collar users. In addition, secondary analytics on data derived from injury surveillance (musculoskeletal, concussion and symptom/severity scores), behavioral (Trail Making, Postural Sway, Flanker, Task-switching, Near Point Convergence, ADHD and King Devick) or imaging (DTI, fMRI, T1, T2, and MRS) will be evaluated.
Evaluation of Helmet Technology and Head Impact Exposure
MTBI - Mild Traumatic Brain InjuryConcussion1 moreThe purpose of the study is to monitor longitudinal changes in brain structure and function between the preseason and postseason, in a population of football playing athletes grouped by helmet make and model. Secondly, the purpose is to determine the protection of the helmet make and model relative to amount and magnitude of sustained head impacts.
Effects of Neuromuscular Training on EEG Adaptations in Young Athletes
Brain ConcussionThe purpose of the current project is to determine the effects of augmented neuromuscular training on brain neuroplasticity. Specifically we aim to evaluate the potential of augmented NMT (aNMT) to alter brain neural performance as evidenced by EEG and functional brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). The changes in EEG and MRI (pre vs. post) will be compared over the same period of time. We hypothesize that the aNMT will influence adaptive brain strategies in young girls.
Brain Dynamics in Response to Jugular Vein Compression
ConcussionMildClinical trials have suggested that this device is effective in mitigating changes in brain structure and function in athlete populations. The purpose of the current study is to better understand the underlying mechanistic response of the brain hemodynamics to mild jugular vein compression
Use of 31P MRS to Assess Brain NAD+ in Healthy Current and Former Collegiate Athletes
ConcussionMildCan nicotinamide riboside (750 mg/day for 12 weeks) affect the levels of NAD+ in the brain as measured by 31P MRS?
One Team: Changing the Culture of Youth Sport With Pregame Safety Huddles
ConcussionBrainRandomized controlled trial of a behavioral intervention (Pre-Game Safety Huddles) designed to study the impact of huddles on concussion safety in youth sport, primarily regarding intention to report concussive symptoms.
