Impact of the Use of Zinc in the Prevention of Oral Mucositis in Pediatric Patients With Lymphoblastic...

Oral Mucositis

Oral mucositis (OM) is a secondary complication of chemo/radiotherapy, which causes pain, dysphagia and predisposition to infections, being a frequent reason for hospitalization that may have an impact on the prognosis of cancer patients. Various interventions for the prevention of OM have been studied, including the use of zinc, which is a micronutrient that participates in various cellular functions and in wound repair, while showing a reduction in the incidence and severity of MO, so the purpose of the present study is to evaluate the impact of the use of zinc in the prevention of oropharyngeal mucositis in pediatric patients with acute lymphoblastic leukemia in chemotherapy, comparing it with the use of placebo. Hypothesis: The use of zinc reduces the incidence and severity of OM in pediatric patients with ALL in chemotherapy compared to the control group.

Gabapentin, Methadone Hydrochloride, and Oxycodone Hydrochloride in Improving Quality of Life in...

Head and Neck Squamous Cell CarcinomaPain1 more

This randomized pilot clinical trial studies the side effects of gabapentin and how well it works when given together with methadone hydrochloride and oxycodone hydrochloride in improving quality of life in patients with stage II-IV head and neck cancer during chemoradiation. Gabapentin, methadone hydrochloride, and oxycodone hydrochloride may help relieve moderate or severe pain caused by head and neck cancer during and after chemoradiation therapy.

Feasibility Study of a Protocol to Treat Pediatric Oral Mucositis by Low-level Laser Therapy

Oral Mucositis

Low Level Laser Therapy has been used for a few years in some pediatric hospital centers for chemo- and radiotherapy-induced oral mucositis care. It may promote ulceration's healing, limits mucositis severity and associated pain. As its use is recommended in the treatment of radio induced mucositis in adults, the level of evidence in pediatric studies does not allow a precise treatment protocol. The investigators present here the protocol of a feasibility study in the haemato-oncology department of the Children University Hospital of Toulouse, with the view to a future efficacy study.

Effect of Oral Vitamin C in Assessing the Severity of Oral Mucositis in Chemoradiation of Head and...

Oral Mucositis

The surrounding controversies both advocating and simultaneously opposing the use of vitamin C, mostly extrapolating animal models to human models, it has not been used individually to assess the severity of oral mucositis during chemoradiotherapy. The present study is undertaken to evaluate the effect of vitamin C oral supplements in assessing the severity of oral mucositis during chemoradiotherapy for oral cancer.

Somatic-psychosocial Care Concept for Oncologic Patients Undergoing Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation...

Oral MucositisMalnutrition

This study will test the SCION (Self care improvement through oncology nursing)-HSCT program a multi-modular, somatic-psycho-social care intervention to improve self management in oncologic patients undergoing HSCT. The study will determine if the self management skills of the patients to enhance: physical activity, prevention of oral mucositis and mal nutrition during the period of hospitalization. It is hypothesized that patients who receive the multi-modular somatic-psycho-social care intervention will have better health related quality of life (HRQoL).

Hexetidine and Chlorobutanol for Lesions Due to Prostheses

Oral Mucositis

Objectives: The study aimed at assessing the efficacy of a new mouthwash in treating oral lesions due to removable prostheses. Methods: The present prospective randomized clinical trial was performed on 44 patients. The experimentation lasted for 4 weeks and 4 operators participated. The effects of the mouthwash were evaluated subjectively and objectively, with questionnaires, Visual Analogic Scales and clinical examinations. The results were statistically analyzed. The following variables were recorded: presence of mucosal lesions due to incongruous removable prostheses and lasting of pain after rinsing.

Study to Assess Safety and Tolerability of AG013 in Oral Mucositis in Subjects Receiving Induction...

Oral Mucositis

The purpose of this study is to assess the safety and tolerability of AG013 (genetically modified L. lactis bacteria engineered to secrete human Trefoil Factor 1), and to explore the ability of AG013 to attenuate the course and severity of oral mucositis (OM) in subjects receiving induction chemotherapy for the treatment of head and neck cancer.

MucositisPain2 more

This was an open-label, single-dose study to assess the safety, tolerability, and absorption/distribution kinetics of a single 100 µg dose of fentanyl sublingual spray in opioid-tolerant cancer subjects, with or without oral mucositis.

Evaluation of ONCOXIN® in Oral Mucositis, Appetite and Body Mass in Cancer Patients.

Mucositis Oral

Oral mucositis is one of the most spread side effects of anticancer therapy. It is associated with both chemo- and radiotherapy, decreases QoL, relative dose intensity and leads to nutritive deficiency. Oral mucositis causes secondary infections, increased hospital stay, whereas pain syndrome results in an emotional distress, anorexia and disables natural feeding.
