Patients included in the study will be recruited after arriving at the Faculty of Dentistry of the University of Zagreb. During the clinical examination, the patient's periodontal status (bleeding during probing, and the depth of the pockets around the implant) and a control x-ray will be taken to check bone loss. Saliva sampling will occur at 3-time points, when establishing the diagnosis of periimplantitis, before the start of therapy, and at the first control after treatment.

To explore a more efficient and scientific clinical treatment plan for acute radiotherapy-induced oral mucositis(RIOM/RTOM).it is hoped that the drug combination can more effectively improve the cure rate of acute RIOM,reduce the degree of oral mucosal injury and utilization rate of analgesic drugs,and reduce the occurrence of severe acute RIOM. Almost all patients with head and neck will have RIOM because of receiving radiation therapy.Studies have shown that the incidence of severe acute RIOM accounted for about 34% to 56%.There is no specific drug when acute RIOM is often accompanied by varying degrees of pain and infection in the mouth.Severe RIOM seriously affects ingestion through the mouth and doesn't conducive to the treatment and prognosis of tumor diseases. To further explore the efficiency and advantages of the combined application of Jeksung and anti-radiation spray in the treatment of acute RIOM at all levels,and provide more data support for relevant clinical treatment.Explore whether the Jeksung with combination of anti-radiation spray can effectively delay the occurrence of acute RIOM and delay the course of the disease.It will be expected to improve the quality of life of cancer patients ,reduce the occurrence of adverse events due during radiotherapy.

Effects of a 0.03% CHX Mouth Rinse in Peri-implant Mucositis

Peri-implant Mucositis

Aim: To evaluate the efficacy of a 0.03% chlorhexidine (CHX) and 0.05% cetyl pyridinium chloride (CPC) mouth rinse, as an adjunct to professionally and patient-administered mechanical plaque removal, in the treatment of peri-implant mucositis. Material and Methods: Patients displaying peri-implant mucositis in, at least, one implant were included in this randomized, double-blinded, clinical trial. Subjects received a conventional professional prophylaxis (at baseline and 6-month visits) and were instructed to regular oral hygiene practices and to rinse, twice daily, during one year, with a 0.03% CHX and 0.05% CPC mouth rinse, or a placebo. Clinical, radiographic and microbiological data were recorded at baseline, 6 and 12 months. Disease resolution was defined as the absence of bleeding on probing (BOP). Repeated measures ANOVA, Student-t and chi square tests were used.

EC-18 for Oral Mucositis in Patients With Concomitant Chemoirradiation

This is a Phase 2, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, 2-stage trial in subjects with squamous cell cancers of the mouth, oropharynx, hypopharynx and nasopharynx planned to receive standard fractionated IMRT-delivered radiotherapy with concomitant chemotherapy (cisplatin). Informed consent will be obtained from each subject prior to enrollment. The trial will be performed in 2 stages: Stage 1 will consist of a blinded parallel group safety study of 4 cohorts in which 24 subjects will be randomized (1:1:1:1) into four equally sized groups to receive one of three doses of EC-18 (500 mg, 1000 mg, 2000 mg; unit dose of 500 mg) or placebo. Stage 2 of the study will evaluate both safety and efficacy. Stage 2 will consist of eighty (80) subjects who will be randomized in a 1:1 scheme to receive either placebo or 2000 mg of EC-18 as determined by iDSMB in Stage 1.

Furthermore, we hypothesize that the use of probiotics may reduce the occurrence of gastrointestinal side effects such as diarrhea, abdominal pains, bacterial translocation and infections following chemotherapy.

The study aimed to study the effect of Bioptron light therapy (BLT) on oral mucositis after receiving chemotherapy in patients with head and neck cancer,Oral mucositis (OM) is a common and severe acute side-effect of many oncologic treatments, especially in patients treated for head and neck cancer. It affects quality of life and require supportive care and proper treatment plane. This study had been conducted on thirty cancer patients (head &neck) receiving chemotherapy & radiotherapy (males and females) with oral mucositis with ulceration and pain(grade 2 and more), their age ranged from 35 to 55 years, capable of understanding the study assessment method and willing to complete the current study, they were free from any immunodeficiency disorders or diseases that could impair the healing process and impact the results as diabetes mellitus. Patients were randomly allocated from patients from the National Cancer Institute, Cairo University. Group A (BLT group): This group consisted of 15 patients receiving BLT for about 10 minutes every day for thirty days in addition to routine oral mucositis medical care (Analgesics, anti-inflammatory treatment and antimicrobial treatment for any new mouth infections), Group B (Control group): This group consisted of 15 patients receiving daily routine oral mucositis medical care(Analgesics, anti-inflammatory treatment and antimicrobial treatment for any new mouth infections) for thirty days The methods of evaluation in the current study were the WHO oral mucositis scale (OMS) and the Common toxicity criteria scale (CTCS). At the same time, the treatment equipment was the polarized light therapy device Bioptron Compact III (PAG-860 manufactured in Switzerland) Assessment by WHO oral mucositis scale and (OMS) and (CTCS) were used before treatment and after treatment to measure improvement in oral mucositis. The results of WHO oral mucositis scale (OMS) and the Common toxicity criteria scale (CTCS) were assessed first at the beginning of the study and one month after the end of the study; calculation of mean, standard deviation, minimum and maximum for each group was done by descriptive statistics, means comparison between the two groups pre and post-application and within each group was made using The t-test. With a level of significance Alpha point of 0.05
