This study is to investigate the use of the Cooral ® standardized CyT device to achieve a constant and reproducible cooling of the oral mucosa to prevent OM in patients undergoing RT in the head and neck region.

This research is being done to evaluate whether or not a customized version of the VibrentTM (formerly FitNinjaTM) mobile app is a feasible way to help people manage and control the pain from radiation sores (also referred to as "mucositis") when treating head and neck cancers with radiation. The mobile app will be designed to help people better understand the pain from the radiation sores and how to better use their medications especially when they are away from the hospital.

The primary hypothesis of this study is that regular topical oral application of Manuka Honey will reduce the severity and duration of oral mucositis in patients who are undergoing mucotoxic radiation therapy for cancer treatment.

RATIONALE: Capsaicin lozenges may be effective treatment for mucositis caused by radiation therapy. It is not yet known whether capsaicin lozenges are more effective than no treatment for mucositis caused by radiation therapy. PURPOSE: Randomized phase III trial to study the effectiveness of capsaicin lozenges in treating patients with mucositis caused by radiation therapy.

RATIONALE: Radiation therapy uses high-energy x-rays to damage tumor cells. Drugs such as sargramostim may protect normal cells from the side effects of radiation therapy. PURPOSE: Randomized phase II trial to determine the effectiveness of sargramostim in preventing mucositis in patients who are receiving radiation therapy for laryngeal cancer.

RATIONALE: Sargramostim may lessen symptoms of mucositis in patients receiving radiation therapy for head and neck cancer. It is not yet known if sargramostim is more effective than no treatment in reducing mucositis caused by radiation therapy. PURPOSE: Randomized phase III trial to determine the effectiveness of sargramostim in decreasing mucositis in patients who are receiving radiation therapy for head and neck cancer.

In this study, it is aimed to examine the effect of oral care training for oral mucositis, which will be given by the researcher to patients who have undergone bone marrow transplantation, on the incidence and severity of oral mucositis in patients. The aim of the study is to be carried out in a public and private hospital in Antalya province, in two different hospitals with a public and private status, and with a total of 60 patients, 30 of which are in the experimental group and 30 in the control group. In the study, "oral care training for oral mucositis" and "oral mucositis follow-up procedure" will be developed by the researcher for bone marrow transplant patients. Bone marrow transplant patients will be educated and followed up according to the follow-up procedure before starting the chemotherapy regimen treatments planned before the transplant.

Oral Mucositis (OM) is a painful and debilitating side effect of many of the drug/radiation regimens used to treat cancer. This study examines the investigational drug brilacidin and its possible application in prevention of oral mucositis in patients undergoing chemoradiation for treatment of head and neck cancer.

This study involves adults receiving radiation therapy for head and neck cancer and will test whether or not the study mouthrinse may lessen oral mucositis.
