Cox-2 Inhibition in Radiation-induced Oral Mucositis
Oral MucositisOral mucositis refers to ulcerative lesions of the oral mucosa that occur due to radiation therapy given for treatment of head and neck cancer. These lesions are painful, compromise nutrition and quality of life and may necessitate interruptions in radiation therapy, thus adversely affecting cancer therapy outcomes. This study examined the use of an anti-inflammatory medicine to reduce pain and severity of oral mucositis.
Oral Manifestations in Children With Cancer
MucositisBefore the start of the selected chemotherapy patients will be treated preventively for oral mucositis. A group will carry out the mouthwash with chlorhexidine 0.12% twice a day for five days and another will be held to damage preventive therapy (wavelength of 660nm, power 100mW and lluencia of 4 J / cm² per point, with distance of 2cm between points located on the right buccal mucosa, left buccal mucosa, hard palate, upper lip and lower lip). Patients who develop oral mucositis even after the prevention, will be divided into three groups for laser sessions with the purpose of treatment of oral mucositis. The group assignment obeyed severity of oral mucositis. Group 1 will include patients with oral mucositis grade 1. Sera used wavelength of 660nm, power 100mW and lluencia of 4 J / cm². Group 2 included patients with oral mucositis grade 2. Sera used with a wavelength of 660nm, power 100mW and lluencia of 8 J / cm². Group 3 included patients with oral mucositis grade 3 Sera used laser diode AsGaAl operating in continuous mode, with a wavelength of 790 nm, power of 100mW and fluency of 8 J / cm².
Influence of Keratinized Mucosa on Dental Implants With Mucositis
Peri-ImplantitisPeri-implant Mucositis2 moreIntroduction: It seems that some local and systemic factors can be associated with an increased incidence of peri-implant diseases. Predisposing to an increase inflammatory response when plaque is present. There is still controversy on which factors can be considered as risk indicators. One of them is the keratinized mucosa width (KM), that seems to facilitate plaque control around implants. Objectives: Assess the relationship between keratinized mucosa and the recurrence of mucositis, comparing bleeding on probing (BOP) in implants with mucositis for 24 weeks after implant disinfection therapy, the control group is defined by having KM ≥ 2 mm and the test group KM < 2 mm. Material and methods: 38 patients presenting one single implant each with a single screw retained crown loaded for at least 1 year. Periodontal maintenance therapy will be performed and oral hygiene instruction will be delivered. Follow up visits will be after 8, 12 and 24 weeks in which the following parameters will be registered: Keratinized Mucosa width, Attached mucosa, Gingival Index, Vestibule Depth, Mucosa Thickness. Probing Pocket Depth, Recession, modified Plaque Index, Bleeding on Probing, modified Bleeding Index. Also a microbiologic test will be taken in the implant sulcus before the periodontal maintenance therapy and at 24 weeks. A multilevel statistical analysis will be conducted comparing the control and the test group, adjusting for the correlation among multiple observations.

Head and Neck CancerOral Complications of Radiation Therapy2 moreRATIONALE: Lactobacillus bevis CD2 lozenge may help prevent symptoms of mucositis, or mouth sores, in patients receiving radiation therapy and chemotherapy. This therapy may improve the quality of life of patients with head and neck cancer. PURPOSE: This phase III trial studies how well Lactobacillus bevis CD2 lozenge prevents oral mucositis in patients with head and neck cancer who are being treated with cisplatin and radiation therapy. These results will be compared to results in patients using placebo lozenges.

MucositisRecurrent Squamous Cell Carcinoma of the Hypopharynx30 moreThe purpose of this study is to find out what effects (good and bad) SAMITAL (Vaccinium myrtillus extract/Macleaya cordata alkaloids/Echinacea angustifolia extract granules) has on the management of mucositis (inflammation and ulceration that occurs in the mouth) brought on by chemotherapy and radiation therapy for squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck
Acupuncture for Mucositis Pain in Cancer Care
MucositisPain1 moreThis research is being done to see if acupuncture helps relieve mucositis pain in patients with leukemia who are undergoing chemotherapy. Many patients receiving chemotherapy develop mucositis (painful sores or blisters in the mouth or throat). Mucositis is not only a frequent complication in cancer care and extremely painful, but also increases the risks of infection and malnutrition and often leads to discontinuing or delaying the chemotherapy treatments.

Gastrointestinal MucositisMalignant NeoplasmThis randomized phase II trial is studying palifermin to see how well it works compared with a placebo in preventing oral mucositis caused by chemotherapy and/or radiation therapy in young patients undergoing stem cell transplant. Palifermin may help relieve or prevent oral mucositis caused by chemotherapy and radiation therapy in young patients undergoing stem cell transplant.
Glutamine in Preventing Oral Mucositis in Patients Receiving Chemotherapy for Sarcoma
Childhood Malignant Fibrous Histiocytoma of BoneSarcomaRATIONALE: Glutamine may help prevent mucositis, or mouth sores, in patients receiving chemotherapy for sarcoma. It is not yet known whether glutamine is more effective than a placebo in preventing mucositis in patients receiving chemotherapy for sarcoma. PURPOSE: This randomized clinical trial is studying glutamine to see how well it works compared to a placebo in preventing oral mucositis in patients receiving chemotherapy for sarcoma.
