Repeated removal and re-placement of healing and prosthetic abutments result in frequent injuries to the soft tissues. The purpose was to evaluate the effect of repeated removal and re-placement of laser microgrooved and smooth/machined healing and prosthetic abutments during restorative stages, and 1 year after functional loading, on proinflammatory cytokine levels around dental implants.

Although, oral mucositis has been studied for many years, no available treatment has been shown to be effective in preventing or treating mucositis. Based on the observations that honey and other products of honeybees have anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, anti-microbial and wound healing effects, the present study aims at evaluation of the effect of topical application of honey and a mixture of honey, beeswax and olive oil-propolis extract, as natural products, in treatment of chemotherapy-induced oral mucositis in children with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). This is a randomised controlled clinical trial in which eligible patients were randomly assigned into three equal treatment groups. Group 1 received 15 gm honey applied topically to the affected oral mucosa three times daily. Group 2 received 5 gm of a mixture of honey, olive oil-propolis extract and bees wax (HOPE) applied topically to the oral mucosa three times daily. Group 3 served as control and received a 7.5% benzocaine gel applied to the areas of ulcers three times daily.

Oral mucositis represents a major complication of cytotoxic chemotherapy among cancer in children. Low-power laser therapy (LPLT) has been used to reduce the incidence of oral mucositis in patients who are receiving high-dose chemotherapy. The aim of this study is to compare two preventives energies delivered of LPLT to oral mucosa in decreasing the severity of mucositis in children.

5-Fuorouracil (5-Fu) remains one of the most effective and most commonly used drugs to treat colorectal cancer. Agents known to attenuate the expression of cytokines have demonstrated efficacy in the prevention of experimental mucositis. The use of atorvastatin were associated with reduced production of TNF-α and IL-1β and decreased neutrophil infiltration evidenced by histopathological analysis and Myeloperoxidase (MPO) activity. In addition, atorvastatin also reduced oxidative stress and induced an increase in non-protein sulfhydryl groups showing anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory action.

Oral mucositis (OM) is an inflammatory mucosal demolition frequently observed during treatments for neoplastic diseases such as chemotherapy or radiation therapy. However, so far, only a small sample of clinical trials have explored the role of glutamine in chemical mucositis, and there is a lack of prospective randomized controlled clinical trials to further verify its value in the prevention and treatment of chemical mucositis. The purpose of this study is to observe the efficacy and safety between a compound glutamine capsule and placebo in the prevention of chemotherapy-induced mucositis in patients with gastric cancer and colorectal cancer in a prospective, randomized, double-blind clinical trial.

This protocol describes a randomized, double-arm, parallel-group, open-label controlled study that aims to evaluate the efficacy of Chinese herbal medicine on head and neck cancer patients with oral mucositis toxicities and quality of life during radiotherapy.
