Multiple Myeloma

Patients with high risk multiple myeloma have shorter remission periods and reduced overall survival. Prognostic significance of minimal residual disease negative remission is being highlighted in many of the newer studies. The current phase 2 study investigates the combination of carfilzomib together with cyclophosphamide and dexamethasone in patients with high risk multiple myeloma in younger transplant-eligible patients.

Multiple Myeloma

Primary Objective: To determine if Multi Myeloma (MM) patients mobilized with granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF) plus plerixafor 240 μg/kg are more likely to achieve a target number of greater than or equal to 6 x 10^6 cluster of differentiation (CD) 34+ cells/kg in 2 or fewer days of apheresis than MM patients mobilized with G-CSF alone. Secondary Objectives: To evaluate the safety of G-CSF plus plerixafor arm compared to G-CSF arm in MM patients. To compare the 2 treatment arms with respect to the number of participants who achieved a minimum of 2 x 10^6 CD34+ cells/kg in 4 or fewer days of apheresis. To compare the 2 treatment arms with respect to the number of days of apheresis required to reach the target of greater than or equal to 6 x 10^6 CD34+ cells/kg.

Autophagy Induction After Bortezomib for Myeloma

Multiple Myeloma

The purpose of this study is to better understand the effects of the chemotherapy medication bortezomib on cancer cells. The investigators are therefore taking blood and bone marrow samples from patients with myeloma who are receiving bortezomib to see if the investigators can detect autophagy in the myeloma cells from the bone marrow and in immune cells in the blood. Subjects are eligible if their doctor is planning to treat them with bortezomib for the first time for their myeloma.

XL184 For Relapsed/Refractory Multiple Myeloma (MM) With Bone Disease

This research study is a Phase I clinical trial. Phase I clinical trials test the safety of an investigational drug. Phase I studies also try to define the appropriate dose of the investigational drug to use for further studies. "Investigational" means that the drug is still being studied and that research doctors are trying to find out more about it. It also means the FDA has not approved the drug for your type of cancer. Cabozantanib (XL184) is a new drug that is being developed to treat cancer. The study drug cabozantinib works by inhibiting several different proteins which are believed to be involved in multiple myeloma growth, its ability to spread, and its ability to form new blood vessels. This drug has been used in other research studies and information from those other research studies suggests that this drug may help to slow or stop disease growth to bones and prevent cancer growth. In this research study, we are looking to see how effective cabozantanib is in slowing or stopping disease growth to the bones as well as preventing your cancer from worsening. We are also looking for the highest dose of cabozantinib that can be given safely to patients who have multiple myeloma with bone disease.

This phase I trial is studying the side effects and best dose of methoxyamine when given together with fludarabine phosphate in treating patients with relapsed or refractory hematologic malignancies. Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as methoxyamine and fludarabine phosphate, work in different ways to stop the growth of cancer cells, either by killing the cells or by stopping them from dividing. Giving methoxyamine together with fludarabine phosphate may kill more cancer cells.
