Dallas Heart Study 2: Return Clinic Visit for the Dallas Heart Study Cohort

AtherosclerosisCongestive Heart Failure6 more

The Dallas Heart Study (DHS-1) is a large, multi-ethnic, population-based epidemiological study designed to identify determinants of atherosclerotic heart disease (ASHD) in a representative United States (US) urban environment. This study completed enrollment in 2003. Our objective is to pinpoint factors contributing to progression: from health to ASHD risk; from ASHD risk to subclinical ASHD; and from subclinical to clinical ASHD. Identification of the critical factors in these transitions will enable targeted implementation of appropriate therapy to interdict before clinical ASHD develops.

Evaluating a New Echocardiography Imaging Procedure for Evaluating Heart Function

IschemiaMyocardial Infarction1 more

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and echocardiography are two imaging methods that are used to obtain pictures of the heart and assess heart function. This study will evaluate a new, four-dimensional echocardiography approach of obtaining heart images to determine if it is as effective at evaluating heart function as MRI.

Left Ventricular Function Assessment After Acute Myocardial Infarction: Comparison Between Bi-,...

Acute Myocardial Infarction

compare measurements of left ventricular volumes and LVEF obtained by 2DE, 3DE, and CMR after a ST elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) complicated by systolic left ventricular dysfunction

Reperfusion Time in ST Segment Elevation Myocardial Infarction (STEMI)

Myocardial Infarction

Reperfusion delay in STEMI has been shown to be excessive in our community. In order to improve delay a fast track (direct transfer in catheterization laboratory) has been implemented. The present study aims at evaluating the benefits of this procedure.

Efficacy and Safety of Prehospital Administration of Bivalirudin in STEMI Patients

Acute Myocardial Infarction

The purpose of this study is to describe the efficacy and safety of prehospital administration of bivalirudin, as a substitute for heparin, in patients with acute myocardial infarction redirected for primary angioplasty bypassing local hospitals, immediately after the diagnosis is confirmed via tele-transmission of a 12-lead electrocardiogram.

Subclinical Thyroid Dysfunction and Risk of Myocardial Infarction and Stroke

Cardiovascular DiseasesHeart Diseases3 more

To examine the association of subclinical hypothyroidism and risk of myocardial infarction and stroke in a large prospective cohort of post-menopausal women.

Dietary Fatty Acids, PPAR Activated Genes, and CHD

Coronary DiseaseCardiovascular Diseases2 more

To examine the relationship between genetic and dietary factors that modify the risk of coronary heart disease (CHD).

VLDL and LDL Particle Types as Coronary Heart Disease Risk Factors

Cardiovascular DiseasesHeart Diseases5 more

To evaluate very low density lipoprotein (VLDL) and low density lipoprotein (LDL) particle types as predictors of initial coronary events.

Heavy Metals, Obesity and Cardiovascular Risk - Ancillary to Look AHEAD

Diabetes MellitusNon-insulin Dependent5 more

To evaluate the relationship of baseline toenail chromium concentrations to weight loss, as well as the interaction between heavy metals and the beneficial effects of weight loss.

Incidence of Diabetes and Cardiovascular Disease in Mexican Americans

Cardiovascular DiseasesHeart Diseases11 more

To determine the incidence of type II diabetes and cardiovascular disease among Mexican-American and non-Hispanic whites in a 15 to 24 year follow-up of the San Antonio Heart Study 1 participants. Also, to perform a 15 to 24 year mortality follow-up of the cohort and to examine the "Hispanic paradox".
