Growth Hormone as Add-on Treatment in Severe Fibromyalgia With Low IGF-1 Serum Levels (56 Characters)...

FibromyalgiaGrowth Hormone Deficiency

There are evidences of functional growth hormone (GH) deficiency, expressed by means of low serum levels of insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1), in a subset of fibromyalgia patients. The efficacy of low GH doses versus placebo has been demonstrated in this population. We assessed the efficacy and safety of GH added to standard therapy compared to standard therapy alone in the treatment of severe, prolonged and well-treated fibromialgya patients with low IGF-1 levels.

The overall objective of this work is to improve treatment outcomes for persons with fibromyalgia by optimizing the approach to self-management. The purpose of this research project is to evaluate and compare, in a randomized, controlled trial involving 200 women, the short and long-term effectiveness of four approaches to fibromyalgia self-management for improving health and functional status, self-efficacy, and symptom severity. Additionally, we will also examine the effect of each intervention on health care usage. We will assess the following 16-week interventions: cardiovascular and flexibility exercise strength training, cardiovascular and flexibility exercise Arthritis Foundation's Fibromyalgia Self-Help course a combination of the Fibromyalgia Self-Help Course and strength training exercise interventions

Coping Skills Training for Adolescents With Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia

Juvenile fibromyalgia is a chronic pain condition that can cause considerable suffering and difficulty in an adolescent's day-to-day activities. The purpose of this study is to determine whether coping skills training, when combined with usual medical care, can reduce pain and disability in adolescents with fibromyalgia. Study hypotheses: 1) Adolescents who receive coping skills training combined with their usual medical care will show significantly greater reductions in functional disability, pain, and depressive symptoms at the end of the acute treatment phase than adolescents who receive fibromyalgia education with their usual medical care. 2) Adolescents who receive coping skills training with their usual medical care will show significantly lower levels of functional disability, pain, and depressive symptoms at the end of a six-month maintenance phase than adolescents who receive fibromyalgia education with their usual medical care.
