The main purpose of this study is to determine the effectiveness and safety of one dose of botulinum toxin type A (Dysport) associated with rehabilitation treatment on pain control in patients with a type of back pain called primary myofascial pain syndrome.

Combining N-of-1 Trials to Assess Fibromyalgia Treatments

This study will compare the effectiveness of combination therapy with the drugs amitriptyline and fluoxetine (AM+FL) and amitriptyline (AM) alone in the treatment of people with fibromyalgia. Doctors will treat each study participant with both AM + FL and AM alone for 6 weeks at a time. The study uses a method that combines results from treatment of individual patients to assess overall treatment effectiveness and help individual patients and their physicians with their treatment decisions. This study will also help compare the results of community-based studies (studies involving private doctors) and studies based at clinical research centers.

Pain Phenotypes in Patients With Fibromyalgia Syndrome

Fibromyalgia Syndrome (FMS); is a complex syndrome characterized by many symptoms such as chronic widespread pain, fatigue and sleep disorders, cognitive dysfunctions and psychiatric disorders. It has been stated that there is an urgent need for studies examining the clinicimetric and psychometric properties of the pain phenotype criteria in terms of patients receiving the most appropriate treatment, clinicians deciding on the appropriate treatment, and contributing to the research of scientists. Despite all this, no study has yet been found that describes the pain phenotypes in fibromyalgia syndrome and how different types of pain affect patients. The primary aim of this study is to determine the chronic pain phenotypes in individuals with FMS. The secondary aim of this study to determine the inter-rater and intra-rater reliability of the algorithm used in the determination of pain phenotypes and to assessment the clinical effects of different pain phenotypes on individuals with FMS in terms of pain severity, disease severity, quality of life and catastrophe.

Comparison of Ba-Duan-Jin and Pregabalin in Patients With Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia is a chronic debilitating musculoskeletal pain syndrome. Pregabalin is the only medication that has been approved to treat fibromyalgia in China. Currently, there has been a growing interest in the development of non-pharmacological therapies. Ba-Duan-Jin is an ancient Chinese exercise for health promotion yet easy to learn. Findings from our previous study showed an effectiveness and good safety of Ba-Duan-Jin in patients with fibromyalgia. This study is to evaluate the effectiveness comparison of Ba-Duan-Jin and pregabalin in managing fibromyalgia symptoms experienced by Chinese patients.

High-intensity Interval Training in Patients With Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia is a common rheumatic disease characterized by widespread musculoskeletal pain, tenderness, fatigue, sleep disorders, cognitive and somatic complaints. Patients often suffer many somatic and psychological symptoms which contributes negative effect on the health- related quality of life, physical performance and physical activity. Recently, the European League Against Rheumatism presented evidence based recommendations for the management of the fibromyalgia. Accordingly, prompt diagnosis and patient education is required for optimal management. A graduated approach with the aim of improving health-related quality of life should be followed. It should focus first on non-pharmacological modalities and the only "strong for" evidence-based recommendation was the use of aerobic and strengthening exercise. Aerobic exercise with moderate intensity (60 to 70% of age-adjusted predicted maximum heart rate (maxHR)) with a frequency of two or three times per week for at least 4 to 6 weeks for a reduction of symptoms is recommended in the management of fibromyalgia. Low-intensity aerobic exercise (<50 % maxHR) is founded ineffective. In recent years, high intensity interval training (HIIT) is used as popular instead of moderate intensity continuous exercise training (MICT) in cardiac rehabilitation units. It is found superior to moderate intensity exercise in improving cardiovascular fitness as increases maximal oxygen consumption (VO2max). The investigators hypothesis is that 6 weeks of five weekly sessions of HIIT will show superior effect reducing the impact of fibromyalgia and improving pain degree, functional capacity and health-related quality of life in women with fibromyalgia compared to MICT.
