Long Term Home Based tDCS in Fibromyalgia

FibromyalgiaTranscranial Direct Current Stimulation

Fibromyalgia(FM) is a widespread musculoskeletal pain syndrome characterized by fatigue, sleep disorders, cognitive impairment, depressive symptoms and neuro-vegetative symptoms. It is a multivariable and complex neurobiological process. FM worldwide prevalence according to American College of Rheumatology (ACR) 2010 diagnostic criteria is estimated under 5,4%. In USA the burden caused by FM is estimated at 29 billions every year, due to assistance, health care costs and retirement to loss of productivity. It is known that conventional pharmacological approaches present poor therapeutic response in more than 50% of these patients. It is conceivable that this limited results, at least in part, due to the lack of a complete elucidation of its pathophysiology. Our hypothesis is that tDCS has a superior effect on clinical outcomes, functional capacity, cortical excitability, and psycho-affective functions compared to simulated treatment. In order to respond to the objectives of this study, a randomized, parallel-blinded clinical trial will be conducted. FM patients will be randomized to receive tDCS with anodic pole on the primary motor cortex and the cathode pole on the contralateral prefrontal cortex.

Effects of Release and Ischemic Pressure of Trigger Points on Neck Pain. A Crossover, Controlled...

Myofascial Trigger Point PainMyofascial Pain2 more

The aim of the study is to compare two manual therapy techniques. By testing if the Pressure Release of Myofascial Trigger Points technique (PRM) is more effective in treating Myofascial Trigger Points present in the upper trapezius muscle of patients with mechanical cervical pain. This will be compared mainly with another manual therapy technique that presents evidences such as Ischemic Pressure technique (IP), and a control group, through the evaluation of the Visual Analogical Scale (VAS), the Threshold of Pain at Pressure (TPP) and the Northwick Park Questionnaire (NPC) of neck disability, spanish version.

Effects of Aerobic Exercise Training With and Without Blood Flow Restriction in Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia

In our study, we aimed to evaluate and compare the effects of low-intensity aerobic exercise training with blood flow restriction and without blood flow restriction, on pain, functional status, quality of life and catecholamine metabolite levels in 24-hour urine in adults with Fibromyalgia.

Myofascial Pain Syndrome and Dextrose Prolotherapy

Efficacy of Dextrose Prolotherapy in Myofascial Pain Syndrome

Myofascial pain syndrome is characterized by the presence of hypersensitive points called trigger points that cause pain, tenderness, spasm, stiffness, limitation of movement, weakness, taut band within the muscle, and pain reflected by pressing in a muscle group or a single muscle. Prolotherapy is a regenerative treatment method in the treatment of chronic musculoskeletal pain, in which an irritating solution is injected, often hypertonic dextrose, into painful ligament and tendon attachments and adjacent joint spaces. In this study, it was aimed to examine the effect of prolotherapy application on pain, neck range of motion and neck disability in women with myofascial pain syndrome.

Mechanism-based Choice of Therapy: Can Treatments Success in Fibromyalgia Patients be Coupled to...

Fibromyalgia

Hypothesis: Response to therapy in fibromyalgia can be improved by coupling of specific medications to the individual patterns of dysfunctional pain modulation. Individuals exhibit wide range of pain modulating capabilities that can be assessed by dynamic psychophysical testing. Those that exhibit less efficient endogenous analgesia and/or increased pain summation are known to be more prone to suffer from pain. Tailoring medications to compensate for the specific dysfunctioning modulatory mechanism will improve pain control.

Study Assessing the Efficacy of Etoricoxib in Female Patients With Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia

The main of the proposed study is to assess whether the use of the Cox-2 inhibitor Etoricoxib is beneficial for the use in fibromyalgia. We intend to seek whether this medication may improve psychiatric and rheumatologic parameters of the disease.

Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Program as an Intervention in Patients With Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia is a clinical syndrome with chronic pain, fatigue, and sleep disorders being the main symptoms. There is no commonly accepted efficacious treatment modality. Training in mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) is a structured, 8-week, cognitively and affectively oriented intervention program, and has been shown to produce health benefits in a number of studies. We plan to conduct a randomized, controlled, clinical study with the aim of testing the efficacy of MBSR for fibromyalgia. Because fibromyalgia is almost exclusively a female disorder, we will limit this investigation to women. 180 female, fibromyalgia patients will be randomized into three groups: Mindfulness training Active control Wait-list control. The main outcome criteria are self-reported and fibromyalgia-specific Quality of Life (QOL), and a Biobehavioral Fibromyalgia Index composed of a variety of psychophysiological and behavioral variables. This index will be generated from data gathered via an ambulatory psychophysiological monitoring system, which comprises parameters of mobility, sleep quality, and cardiovascular well-being. These and other relevant variables (depression score, general QOL, pain quality, anxiety, mindfulness, compliance, other therapeutic measures) will be assessed at the beginning and end of the training, as well as at 4- and 12-months post-treatment. A primary focus will be assessing whether it is possible to promote psychological well-being through the learning of attentive presence and any resultant affective affirmation.

An Emotional Regulation Brief Procedure (PbRE) for Fibromyalgia Using ICT's

FibromyalgiaChronic Pain

The study aims is to test the efficacy of an emotional regulation procedure for fibromyalgia patients using Information and Communications Technologies (ICTs). This procedure is based in a task that implies exposition to emotional words. The principal hypothesis is that exposition will improve the clinical symptomatology because the procedure restore an adequate emotional regulation.
