A multicenter trial to assess the safety and efficacy of an investigational drug in the prevention of chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (CINV) in patients with confirmed solid tumors who will be treated with a chemotherapy regimen that includes cisplatin. The study will evaluate the investigational drug for the treatment of CINV during the first cycle of treatment with cisplatin.

RATIONALE: Ginger may help reduce or prevent nausea. It is not yet known if antiemetic drugs are more effective with or without ginger in treating nausea caused by chemotherapy. PURPOSE: This randomized phase II/III trial is studying giving antiemetic drugs together with ginger to see how well they work compared to antiemetic drugs alone in treating nausea in patients who are receiving chemotherapy for cancer.

Postoperative Nausea and Vomiting

Postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) is particularly distressing although it is not a fatal postoperative complication. Numbers of studies have been focused on identifying risk factors and therapies of PONV. Unfortunately, there' no consistent comments for PONV prevention in women after laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy. Notably, Zusanli (ST36) acupoint and anisodamine have been evidenced to treat various gastrointestinal conditions. The primary outcome of this study was to evaluate the impact of anisodamine injection in ST36 on PONV in women following bariatric surgery.

One of the most common discomforts in early pregnancy is nausea and vomiting. Although its etiology is not known exactly, it affects an average of 50-90% of pregnant women. The severity of nausea-vomiting can vary from person to person, as well as in different pregnancies of the woman. The severity of nausea-vomiting is affected by hormonal, psychological and social factors. Adaptation to pregnancy, spouse relations, future anxiety and social support perception in nausea and vomiting experienced during early pregnancy affect women negatively and cause anxiety. The severity of nausea and vomiting also increases due to anxiety. As the severity of nausea-vomiting increases, the search for solutions to this situation and their applications to health institutions increase. Many non-pharmacological methods (respiratory exercises, acupuncture, acupressure, etc.) are used in treatment, as well as hydration, rest and pharmacological agents. One of these methods is the emotional liberation technique, which is included in cognitive behavioral therapies. This method basically treats the person physiologically and psychologically as a whole, similar to other cognitive behavioral therapies, unless there is a physiological disorder. It is aimed to reach a solution by raising awareness for the emotion felt, avoiding negative emotions and focusing on affirmations to replace them. Emotional liberation technique is an easy-to-apply and fast-solving technique in cases recorded in the subconscious with negative emotions and in the treatment of stress disorders in general. No use of emotional liberation technique has been found in the literature for the severity of nausea-vomiting and anxiety experienced during early pregnancy. Therefore, it is thought that this study will contribute to the literature. In addition, it is thought that this method will enrich midwifery interventions as a non-pharmacological method applied to pregnant women in the treatment of nausea-vomiting and anxiety, because this method is fast and practical, and the result is easy to reach. The aim of this study is to determine the effect of emotional liberation technique applied during early pregnancy on nausea and vomiting severity and anxiety.

PALO-15-17 is a clinical study assessing efficacy and safety of a single dose of palonosetron 0.25 mg administered as a 30-minute IV infusion compared to palonosetron 0.25 mg administered as a 30-second IV bolus (Aloxi, an antiemetic drug), both given with oral dexamethasone. The objective of the study is to demonstrate that infused IV palonosetron 0.25 mg is as effective as (non-inferior to) injected palonosetron IV 0.25 mg to prevent nausea and vomiting induced by highly emetogenic cancer chemotherapy in the 0-24 hours after administration of a single cycle of highly emetogenic chemotherapy

While packing is preventing blood leakage, it may cause postoperative pain due to the pressure. Packing placed between oropharynx and hypopharynx before surgery to prevent leakage to stomach and trachea. The aim of this study is to compare the efficacy of two packing types in throat pain.

Postoperative Nausea and Vomiting

Untreated, one third of patients undergoing general anesthesia will have postoperative nausea, vomiting, or both. Patients often rate postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) as worse than postoperative pain. PONV increases the risk of aspiration and has been associated with suture dehiscence, esophageal rupture, subcutaneous emphysema, and bilateral pneumothoraxes. PONV frequently delays discharge, and is the leading cause of unexpected hospital admission after planned ambulatory surgery. Nabilone (Cesamet®) is a synthetic cannabinoid developed in the 1970s which is a potent CB1 agonist. The use of nabilone in preventing nausea and vomiting in patients receiving chemotherapy has been thoroughly investigated. Results from clinical studies demonstrated the efficacy, safety, and tolerability of Cesamet in this population. There has been success in the past translating treatments for chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (ie. 5-HT receptor agonists including Ondansetron and Granisetron) to use in the perioperative environment. Only one RCT has studied the use of nabilone for the reduction of PONV. Published in 1995, this study compared the administration of either Cesamet 2 mg or metoclopramide 10 mg given 90 minutes before the operation in patients scheduled for elective hysterectomy in 60 women. This study failed to show any significant difference between groups. There are several limitations to this study including a poorly optimized dosing regimen, a small sample size, and a comparison group lacking clinical generalizability. This study will investigate the use Cesamet vs Placebo, in addition to the regular antiemetic treatment which patients receive at the discretion of the managing anesthesiologist, for the prevention of PONV. The study group will include patients undergoing general anesthesia for elective ambulatory surgery with at least 3 risk factors (>60% risk) for the development of PONV.
