Investigating the Therapeutic Effectiveness of Aloe Barbadensis in Reducing Cutaneous Side-Effects...

Breast Cancer

Breast cancer treatment often involved radiation to the breast. A side-effect of this treatment is skin redness, itching and burning. Some patients have quite severe reactions. Our current treatment for this is to avoid any soaps or other skin irritants and to use a moisturizing cream once all radiation is finished. Aloe vera is believed by many people to be useful for treatment of skin burns but this has never been proven in a randomized study. The aim of this study is to compare aloe vera gel versus plan gel versus the standard treatment to determine if there is any benefit. If there was a benefit of gel treatment over standard it could make radiation treatments more tolerable for cancer patients.

Effects of Zometa and Physical Activity on Bone Density in Women Receiving Chemotherapy for Breast...

Breast Cancer

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effect of zoledronic acid and physical activity on preventing bone loss in women aged 40 - 55 who are receiving chemotherapy for breast cancer. The primary objective is to compare the percent change in the lumbar spine bone mineral density (BMD) from baseline to 12 months for women who are randomized to either: Group A) intravenous zoledronic acid, oral calcium carbonate, and vitamin D, or Group B) a prescribed physical activity program, oral calcium carbonate and vitamin D.

Chemotherapy and Peripheral Stem Cell Transplantation Followed by Trastuzumab in Treating Women...

Breast Cancer

RATIONALE: Chemotherapy uses different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. Combining chemotherapy with peripheral stem cell transplantation may allow the doctor to give higher doses of chemotherapy drugs and kill more tumor cells. Monoclonal antibodies such as trastuzumab can locate tumor cells and either kill them or deliver tumor-killing substances to them without harming normal cells. PURPOSE: Phase I/II trial to study the effectiveness of chemotherapy and peripheral stem cell transplantation followed by trastuzumab in treating women who have metastatic breast cancer.

Implantable Microdevice for TNBC - Pilot Study

Triple Negative Breast CancerBreast Cancer Stage II5 more

The goal of this research study is to evaluate the safety and feasibility of implanting and retrieving a microdevice that releases microdoses of a specific drug or combination of drugs as a possible tool to evaluate the effectiveness of several cancer drugs against early stage Triple Negative Breast Cancer (TNBC). The name of the intervention involved in this study is: Implantable Microdevice (IMD)

ZN-c3 for the Treatment of Metastatic Triple-Negative Breast Cancer and Advanced Ovarian Cancer...

Advanced Fallopian Tube CarcinomaAdvanced Ovarian Carcinoma9 more

This early phase I trial tests the safety and side effects of ZN-c3 in treating patients with triple-negative breast cancer or ovarian cancer that have spread to other parts of the body (metastatic or advanced). ZN-c3 is an enzyme inhibitor that may stop the growth of cancer cells by blocking some of the enzymes needed for cell growth.

A Community Dance Intervention Engaging Breast Cancer Survivors in a Middle-income Country

Physical InactivityBreast Cancer

Interventions to promote physical activity among women breast cancer survivors (BCS) in low to middle-income countries are limited. We conducted a study to assess the acceptability and preliminary effectiveness of an 8-week, 3 times/week group dance intervention for BCS delivered in Bogotá, Colombia. The effect of the intervention on participants' physical activity levels, motivation to engage in physical activity, and quality of life were evaluated, and interviews were thematically analyzed to assess program acceptability.

Acupuncture Prevents Chemobrain in Breast Cancer Patients

Chemo-brainDrug-Related Side Effects and Adverse Reactions2 more

Chemobrain is an expression used to describe a cluster of chemotherapy-induced cognitive impairment symptoms, including problems with visual and verbal memory, forgetfulness, difficulty in learning, attention, concentration and coordination of multitasking and organization. Over 75% cancer patients experienced acute cognitive symptoms during chemotherapy and 17%-34% of them have long-term post-treatment cognitive deficits which can persist up to 10 years. Breast cancer survivors even display as high as 50%-75% prevalence of post-treatment cognitive impairment. Chemobrain has become an apparent quality-of-life issue for cancer survivors and will be encountered more frequently with the rise of the number of cancer survivors. There are no effective interventions available for preventing and treating chemobrain. Acupuncture is beneficial in reducing various side effects of anti-cancer treatment. It also shows the efficacy in improving mild cognitive impairment and other dementia disorders; facilitates the recovery of pathological microstructural changes of the brain. These results have led to the hypothesis that acupuncture is effective in preventing chemobrain and this preventive effect may be associated with the protection against cytokine production, epigenetic modification and microstructural changes of the brain. To test this hypothesis, an assessor-blinded, randomised controlled trial will be conducted to determine if a combination of DCEAS and body acupuncture could reduce the incidence and symptoms of chemobrain in breast cancer patients under chemotherapy compared to least acupuncture stimulation (LAS) as controls. A total of 168 breast cancer patients who are ready for chemotherapy will be randomly assigned to comprehensive acupuncture intervention (combined DCEAS and body acupuncture regimen + chemotherapy) (CAI) (n = 84) for 2 sessions per week for 8 weeks or least acupuncture stimulation (LAS) (minimal acupuncture + chemotherapy) (n = 84). All patients receive the standard chemotherapy of breast cancer. Treatment outcomes on cognitive performance, fatigue and the depression will be assessed.

Impact of 18F-FDG PET-CT Versus Conventional Staging in the Management of Patients Presenting With...

Stage III Breast Cancer (T0N2T1N24 more

This trial is being conducted to determine the impact of whole body FDG PET-CT vs. conventional staging in the management of patients presenting with clinical Stage III breast cancer. Eligible consenting patients with ductal or mixed histology breast cancer will be randomized 1:1 to whole body FDG PET-CT or conventional staging. Eligible consenting patients with lobular only histology will be entered into a separate single arm prospective study and will undergo whole body FDG PET-CT, CT with contrast of the chest/abdomen & pelvis and a bone scan.

Gonadotropin-Releasing Hormone Agonist for the Preservation of Ovarian Function During Chemotherapy...

Breast Cancer

The study is a prospective randomized control clinical trial which is sponsored by the researchers. The purpose of this study is to determine the effectiveness of Gonadotropin-Releasing hormone agonist on ovarian function for premenopausal breast cancer patients during chemotherapy. The premenopausal breast cancer patients will be randomly (1:1) enrolled to receive standard chemotherapy with the GnRH agonist goserelin (goserelin group) or standard chemotherapy without goserelin (chemotherapy alone group). All patients are stratified according to age (<35years vs.36-44years), hormone receptor status (HR+ or ER+ vs.HR- and ER-), chemotherapy regimen(3-4 cycles vs.6-8 cycles, and cyclophosphamide-based vs.noncyclophosphamide).The follow-up time will be at least 2years. The ovarian failure, follicle-stimulating hormone, estradiol and anti-Mullerian hormone, pregnancy outcomes and disease-free and overall survival will be compared between two groups to evaluate the effectiveness of protect against ovarian failure.
