Combination Chemotherapy Plus Bevacizumab in Treating Patients With Advanced Colorectal Cancer

Colorectal Cancer

RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy use different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. Bevacizumab may stop the growth of colorectal cancer by stopping blood flow to the tumor. PURPOSE: Phase II trial to study the effectiveness of combination chemotherapy plus bevacizumab in treating patients who have advanced colorectal cancer.

Olimersen and Irinotecan in Treating Patients With Metastatic or Recurrent Colorectal Cancer

Colorectal Cancer

RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy use different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. Gene therapy such as oblimersen may make tumor cells more sensitive to chemotherapy drugs. Combining irinotecan and oblimersen may kill more tumor cells. PURPOSE: Phase I/II trial to study the effectiveness of combining oblimersen and irinotecan in treating patients who have metastatic or recurrent colorectal cancer.

Leucovorin and Fluorouracil Compared With Observation in Treating Patients With Colorectal Cancer...

Colorectal Cancer

RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy use different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. Combining more than one drug may kill more tumor cells. It is not yet known whether chemotherapy is more effective than observation in patients who have had surgery to remove colorectal cancer. PURPOSE: This randomized phase III trial is studying leucovorin and fluorouracil to see how well they work compared to observation in treating patients with colorectal cancer that has been surgically removed.

Rofecoxib After Surgery in Treating Patients With Stage II or Stage III Colorectal Cancer

Colorectal Cancer

RATIONALE: Rofecoxib may stop the growth of cancer by stopping blood flow to the tumor and killing tumor cells that remain after surgery. It is not yet known if rofecoxib is effective in treating colorectal cancer. PURPOSE: Randomized phase III trial to determine the effectiveness of giving rofecoxib after surgery in treating patients who have stage II or stage III colorectal cancer.

Combination Chemotherapy in Treating Patients With Colorectal Cancer

Colorectal Cancer

RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy use different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. Giving drugs at the time of day that allows for the best drug response may allow the doctor to give higher doses of chemotherapy drugs and kill more tumor cells. PURPOSE: Randomized phase II trial to determine the best time to give irinotecan combined with fluorouracil, leucovorin, and oxaliplatin in treating patients who have colorectal cancer.
