Evaluating Strategies to Present Colon Cancer Screening Information

Colonic NeoplasmsColorectal Neoplasms2 more

This is a study examining the effects of different educational-motivational materials about colorectal cancer screening on perceptions and intentions to get screened. Eligible participants will be randomized to one of three experimental conditions. All participants will be provided information about colon cancer and screening options based on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Screen for Life materials. Some participants also will be asked to read a personal narrative about colon cancer screening. This study will determine whether participant's perceptions about and colorectal cancer screening intentions and behaviors differ by which information they read. Participants will complete surveys before, immediately after, and one month after randomization. To assess behavior change, as suggested by grant reviewers and the project officer, we added 6 and 12 month follow up surveys. Participants can complete all study requirements through the study website: http://HealthStudy.wustl.edu

Abscopal Effect for Metastatic Colorectal Cancer

Colorectal CancerMetastatic Colorectal Cancer1 more

Patients with colorectal cancer that had metastatic lesions after been treated with definitive surgery or chemoradiotherapy are being asked to participate in this study. To observe immunity-mediated tumor response outside the radiation field (abscopal effect) after chemoradiotherapy of a metastatic site in metastatic colorectal cancer patients. To induce the efficacy (effectiveness) of a new combination of therapy, chemoradiotherapy and thymalfasin for heavily pretreated, metastatic esophageal cancer patients; To explore the role of PET/CT scanning to assess tumor response/abscopal effect. This study will help find out what abscopal effects (good or bad) the combination of radiotherapy and thymalfasin has on metastatic esophageal cancer.

Metastatic Colorectal Cancer

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the safety and efficacy of the experimental drug abituzumab (EMD525797) in combination with cetuximab and FOLFIRI in RAS wild-type, left-sided, metastatic colorectal cancer patients with high ανβ6 integrin expression.

Views on Cancer Prevention and Daily Lifestyle

Colorectal CancerSedentary Lifestyle

This study is to assess how a theoretically guided mHealth communication informed by evidence of thoughts and affect about colorectal cancer can enhance how an existing mHealth (cell/mobile based text messaging health promotion) intervention increased physical activity in healthy adults.

Randomized Trial Evaluating the Effectiveness of the General Practitioner Involvement in Cancer...

Breast CancerColorectal Cancer1 more

Our goal is to evaluate, in France, the effectiveness (in terms of participation) of the general practitioner involvement (signature) and a more personalized communication in invitation letters to organized screening of breast, colorectal and cervical cancers. The hypothesis on which this project is based is that communication is probably more effective if the "receiver" feels personally targeted by invitation letters (Dear Martin, I am writing ...) and if he knows "the issuer "(his general practitioner rather an unknown person).

Intensive Versus Minimal Surveillance of Patients With Resected Dukes B2-C Colorectal Carcinoma...

Colorectal CancerSurveillance

Dukes B2-C colorectal cancer patients who had no evidence of disease at the end of their front line treatment (surgery and adjuvant radio-chemotherapy, if indicated) are eligible for the trial and randomized to two different surveillance programs. These programs differ greatly in the frequency of diagnostic imaging. They have similar schedules of physical examinations and carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) assessments. Patients will receive baseline and yearly health-related quality of life (HR-QoL) questionnaires. Primary outcomes are overall survival and QoL.

Health Literacy Interventions to Overcome Disparities in CRC Screening

Colorectal Cancer

In the proposed project the investigators will evaluate two different follow-up approaches to improve low income patients' completion of initial and annual colorectal cancer (CRC) screening using the Fecal Immunochemical Test (FIT), the most sensitive FOBT. The purpose of this study is to compare the effectiveness of two distinct follow-up strategies to promote CRC screening: a prevention coordinator (PC) approach vs. an automated telephone reminder (ATR) system. The investigators will adapt a successful intervention tested in the Health Literacy and Cancer Screening Project by adding a follow-up strategy to the health literacy intervention. Specific Aims: The investigators Primary Aims are to: 1. Compare the effectiveness of the PC and ATR strategies to improve initial and repeat CRC screening. 2. Compare the cost effectiveness of the PC and ATR strategies for initial and repeat CRC screening. The investigators Secondary Aims are to: 3. Conduct a process evaluation of both follow-up strategies to investigate implementation and barriers 4. Determine if the effects of either strategy vary by patients' literacy skills. 5. Explore patient characteristics associated with CRC screening knowledge, beliefs, self-efficacy, and compliance over time between study arms.
