RATIONALE: Dasatinib may stop the growth of tumor cells by blocking some of the enzymes needed for cell growth. Drugs in chemotherapy, such as ifosfamide, carboplatin, and etoposide, work in different ways to stop the growth of tumor cells, either by killing the cells or by stopping them from dividing. Giving dasatinib together with ifosfamide, carboplatin, and etoposide may kill more tumor cells. PURPOSE: This phase I/II trial is studying the side effects and best dose of dasatinib when given together with ifosfamide, carboplatin, and etoposide and to see how well they work in treating young patients with metastatic or recurrent malignant solid tumors.

Folfox-B Study for Patients With Colorectal Liver Metastases

Objective: To evaluate the efficacy of the use of the combination of oxaliplatin, 5-fluorouracil, leucovorin and bevacizumab (FOLFOX-B) in patients with unresectable colorectal liver metastases, with the objective to downstage hepatic disease and enable complete resection of residual disease. Primary Objective: To evaluate the resection rate in patients with initially unresectable hepatic colorectal metastases downstaged with FOLFOX-B. Complete resection of all liver lesions is the goal. Secondary Objectives: To evaluate the probability of complete response, partial response or stable disease. To evaluate the proportion of patients who are resected, and the proportion of patients achieving an R0 resection (among those receiving surgery). To correlate survival with downstaging and resection based on metastatic colorectal prognostic score. To evaluate the disease-free survival and overall survival. To evaluate the positron emission tomography response rate. To explore correlations of clinical response with telomerase and hTERT expression.

The primary aim of this study is to investigate whether the addition of the new anti-cancer drug bevacizumab (Avastin) to the combination of the chemotherapeutic agents capecitabine (Xeloda) and oxaliplatin (Eloxatin) reduces (slows down) the recurrence of metastatic disease after a radical resection of liver metastases in patients with colorectal cancer.

This randomized phase II trial compares how well associating liver partition with portal vein ligation for staged hepatectomy (ALPPS) or portal vein occlusion (PVO) works in treating patients with liver cancer. Both treatments are types of 2-stage hepatectomies for removing liver cancer. ALPPS may be more effective than PVO in patients whose disease would traditionally be considered inoperable. Medical images used to guide treatment of tumor(s) are presently displayed on flat-panel monitors (like screens used with computers). This protocol will evaluate, using a new headset to view the images in true 3D ("360 degrees"), while using standard flat panel monitors as usual (in accordance with standard of care). The headset is combined with a mini-global positioning system (GPS)-like system to help navigate to treat tumor(s). This evaluation is to show that the headset has potential to provide guidance and navigation information that can improve the treatment of tumor(s) with heat.

Resection Versus Microwave Ablation for Resectable Colorectal Cancer Liver Metastases

This single-center, prospective, randomized clinical trial is designed to compare the clinical characteristics and outcomes of hepatic resection and microwave ablation (MWA) to determine the optimal operative intervention for the local treatment of resectable colorectal cancer liver metastases. The primary aim of this study is to test the following hypothesis: 2-year local disease control is equivalent between patients receiving the experimental therapy (MWA) and patients receiving the standard therapy (hepatic resection) as treatment for colorectal cancer liver metastases determined to be resectable by radiographic imaging. Secondarily, the investigators expect that 2-year intrahepatic (regional) and metastatic disease recurrence rates are equivalent between the two treatment arms in this study.
