HYPAZ: Hypertension Induced by Pazopanib

Renal Cell CarcinomaSoft Tissue Sarcoma9 more

Pazopanib is a new cancer drug that works by limiting the growth of new blood vessels in tumours. About half of patients who take pazopanib develop high blood pressure (hypertension). This side effect can make patients have to reduce or stop their cancer treatment, and can cause other health problems. The aim of this study is to find out exactly how the drug causes high blood pressure.

Anemia Treatment for Advanced Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC) Patients Receiving Chemotherapy...

Non-Small Cell Lung CancerAnemia2 more

This is a study in patients with chemotherapy induced anemia receiving multi-cycle chemotherapy for the treatment of stage IV non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). The primary objective of the study is to demonstrate that overall survival (OS) is not worse in participants on darbepoetin alfa treated to a hemoglobin ceiling of 12.0 g/dL compared to participants treated with placebo.

A Double-Blind, Randomized, Placebo-Controlled, Multicenter, Phase III Study of Tariquidar + Paclitaxel/Carboplatin...

Stage IIIb Non-small Cell Lung CancerStage IV Non-small Cell Lung Cancer

To determine whether tariquidar + combined first-line chemotherapy of paclitaxel/carboplatin in patients with Stage IIIb/IV NSCLC will, with an acceptable safety profile, significantly improve overall survival compared with placebo + paclitaxel/carboplatin. To compare the effects of tariquidar/paclitaxel/carboplatin with placebo/paclitaxel/carboplatin on tumor response, time to disease progression, performance status, symptom progression, and quality of life in patients with Stage IIIb/IV NSCLC.

Captopril in Treating Patients With Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer or Limited-Stage Small Cell Lung...

Lung CancerPulmonary Complications1 more

RATIONALE: Captopril is a drug that may be able to decrease side effects caused by radiation therapy, and may improve the quality of life of patients with non-small cell lung cancer or limited-stage small cell lung cancer. PURPOSE: This randomized phase II trial is studying how well captopril works in decreasing side effects and improving the quality of life in patients who have received radiation therapy with or without chemotherapy for stage I, stage II, or stage IIIB non-small cell lung cancer or limited-stage small cell lung cancer.

Management of Tobacco Treatment Intervention in Reducing Surgical Complications in Patients With...

Lung Carcinoma

This randomized phase III trial studies how well management of a tobacco treatment intervention works in reducing surgical complications in patients with newly diagnosed lung cancer who smoke cigarettes. Management of a tobacco treatment intervention compares varenicline (a drug that reduces the craving and withdrawal symptoms that occur with abstinence from nicotine) and behavioral interventions (consisting of a brief clinician-delivered intervention and tobacco quitline [tobacco cessation service available through a toll-free telephone number] follow-up) with placebo (a pill with no active medication) along with similar behavioral interventions. It is not yet known whether management of a tobacco treatment intervention is more effective in reducing surgical complications than placebo.

Is Clarithromycin a Potential Treatment for Cachexia in People With Lung Cancer?

CachexiaLung Cancer

This study aims to identify if clarithromycin (CLM) has potential as a widely available and inexpensive treatment for cachexia (the loss of muscle mass) in people with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Half the participants will receive clarithromycin and half will receive a placebo.

Therapeutic Strategies in Patients With Non-squamous Non-small Cell Lung Cancer With Brain Metastases...

Non-small Cell Lung Cancer MetastaticNon-small Cell Lung Cancer2 more

The patients carrying a complicated primary lung cancer brain metastases die in less than 3 months of delay disease in the absence of treatment. The median survival of these patients is approximately six months when the treatment associated with radiotherapy chemotherapy based on cisplatin is now the standard treatment. In most studies the patients die of their brain disease in one case only two, so it is likely that some patients do not require brain irradiation (prognosis in this case is linked to extra-cerebral disease ). The benefits for patients in group B (without systematic irradiation) are not to suffer the side effects of this radiation. The risks are in the same group to see brain metastases become symptomatic. The role of cerebral radiotherapy in the patients treated with chemotherapy is unclear: should all patients be irradiated systematically (since the "reference" treatment is involved and with the aim of obtaining better control of the brain lesions and maintaining a better neurological status) or should only the patients showing cerebral progression be irradiated (avoidance of possibly useless brain radiotherapy and its side effects). The aim of this study is to better determine the position of cerebral radiotherapy in this context. Main objective: determine whether there is a difference in terms of progression-free survival between a therapeutic strategy with initial systematic brain radiotherapy followed by chemotherapy cis-platine/alimta + / - Bevacizumab and strategy with an initial chemotherapy cis-platine/alimta + / - Bevacizumab associated with brain radiotherapy only in cases of cerebral progression in patients with NSCLC with asymptomatic brain metastases

Pulmonary Interstitial Lymphography in Early Stage Lung Cancer

Lung CancerLung Cancer Non-Small Cell Cancer (NSCLC)2 more

The stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) procedure is an emerging alternative to the standard treatment for early stage non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), typically lobectomy with lymphadenectomy. This procedure (lobectomy) does not fulfill the medical need as many patients are poor operative candidates or decline surgery. This study assesses the feasibility of stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) as a tool to produce therapeutically useful computed tomography (CT) scans, using standard water-soluble iodinated compounds as the contrast agents.

A Study In Patients Who Will Undergo Surgical Removal Of Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer To Evaluate...

Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC)

This study will enroll patients who are planned to undergo surgical removal of their tumor. The goal of the study is to evaluate the changes that occur in the tumor after brief (about 8 days) exposure to the study drug.
