Memantine and Post-mastectomy Neuropathic Pain

Neuropathic Pain

The aim of this study is to evaluate if memantine administered for four weeks starting two weeks before surgery induces a decrease in pain intensity at 3 months post-mastectomy.

Postamputation Pain: Peripheral Mechanisms

Neuropathic PainAmputation4 more

Stump and phantom pain after amputation are common, but the responsible mechanisms are still not clarified. It has been suggested that phantom limb pain can be reduced by regional anaesthesia and in several recent studies, pain was reduced following intrathecal and intraforaminal blocks. In this study, the investigators want to investigate if spontaneous and evoked pain in amputees will be relieved by regional nerve blocks involving the damaged nerves.

Early Administration of Botox® in Neuropathic Pain Due to Thoracoscopy or Thoracotomy

Pain Due to Certain Specified ProceduresNeuropathic Pain

Botulinum toxin type A has been reported to inhibit the release of various pain neurotransmitters (SP, CGRP, glutamate) responsible for neurogenic inflammation, a process that results from the sensitization of C-fiber nociceptors (peripheral sensitization). This action is probably responsible for the analgesic effect of botulinum toxin type A recently demonstrated in patients with neuropathic pain of peripheral origin. In those studies, patients had been suffering for years. The investigators can hypothesizes that earlier administration of Botox in the course of neuropathic pain might prevent central sensitization, that is secondary to peripheral sensitization. The investigators can hope to increase efficacy of Botulinum toxin type A injections and to prevent chronification of pain.

A Study to Learn How the Study Treatment BAY2395840 Moves Into, Through and Out of the Body, How...

Diabetic Neuropathic PainRenal Impairment1 more

Researchers are looking for a better way to treat people who have inflammatory conditions. Inflammatory conditions may result from an increased activation of the body's natural defenses (the immune system) and are characterized by swelling, redness, heat, and pain. The study treatment BAY2395840 is under development for use in inflammatory conditions. It works by blocking a protein, the B1 receptor, whose activation is involved in inflammatory responses. The main purpose of this study is to learn how a single dose of BAY2395840 moves into, through and out of the body in participants with a moderate reduction of kidney function compared to matched participants with normal kidney function. To answer this, the researchers will compare: the (average) total level of BAY2395840 in the blood (also known as AUC), and the (average) highest level of BAY2395840 in the blood (also known as Cmax) between the two groups of participants. The participants do not benefit from this study. However, the study will provide information on how to use BAY2395840 in later studies in people with inflammatory conditions. As some people with these conditions may also have kidney problems, this study is done in participants with moderate reduction of kidney function to characterize the use of BAY2395840 in this patient group. All participants will take a single dose of BAY2395840 as tablets. Each participant will be in the study for up to 5 weeks. They will stay in-house for 4 days, including one treatment day. In addition, one visit before and one visit after the in-house phase to the study site is planned.

Ear Acupuncture for Neuropathic Pain

Neuropathic Pain

The purpose of this study is to gather information on the effectiveness of auricular acupuncture (i.e., the placement of acupuncture needles in specific points on the ear) in reducing pain and improving quality of life among patients experiencing neuropathic pain in the acute inpatient rehabilitation setting.

Exercise and Pain in Non-Hispanic Blacks and Whites

PainAcute5 more

Non-Hispanic Blacks tend to report higher levels of pain, experience pain more frequently, and be under-treated for pain compared to non-Hispanic Whites. Acute (single session) exercise is known to be effective at reducing pain but it is unknown what effect chronic exercise training has on pain responses. The broad goal of this study is to determine whether regular exercise training is more effective at reducing pain responses in non-Hispanic Blacks compared to non-Hispanic Whites. The investigators are interested in comparing regular aerobic exercise training versus high-intensity interval training.

The Effect of Central Sensitization and Neuropathic Pain After Total Knee Arthroplasty

Neuropathic Pain

It has been well known that central sensitization (CS) is a risk factor for inferior outcomes following total knee arthroplasty (TKA). However, there are still insufficient studies on the relationship between CS and neuropathic pain (NP), and the effects of CS and NP on the patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) of patients who underwent TKA. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between CS and NP and whether CS and NP were associated with PROM in patients undergoing TKA.
