Glutathione in Preventing Peripheral Neuropathy Caused by Paclitaxel and Carboplatin in Patients...

Chemotherapeutic Agent ToxicityNeuropathy14 more

This randomized phase III trial is studying glutathione to see how well it works in preventing peripheral neuropathy caused by paclitaxel and carboplatin in patients with ovarian cancer, fallopian tube cancer, and/or primary peritoneal cancer. Drugs used in chemotherapy work in different ways to stop the growth of cancer cells, either by killing the cells or by stopping them from dividing. Chemoprotective drugs, such as glutathione, may help prevent peripheral neuropathy caused by paclitaxel and carboplatin. It is not yet known whether glutathione is more effective than a placebo in preventing peripheral neuropathy.

Amifostine in Treating Peripheral Neuropathy in Patients Who Have Received Chemotherapy for Cancer...

Gestational Trophoblastic TumorNeurotoxicity3 more

RATIONALE: Amifostine may be effective in relieving numbness, tingling, and other symptoms of peripheral neuropathy. It is not yet known whether amifostine is effective in treating peripheral neuropathy in patients who have received chemotherapy for cancer. PURPOSE: This randomized phase III trial is studying amifostine to see how well it works compared to observation in relieving numbness, tingling, and other symptoms of peripheral neuropathy in patients who have received platinum-based chemotherapy (such as cisplatin or carboplatin) for cancer.

Glutamic Acid in Reducing Nerve Damage Caused by Vincristine in Young Patients With Cancer

Kidney CancerLeukemia4 more

RATIONALE: Glutamic acid may help lessen or prevent nerve damage caused by vincristine. It is not yet known whether glutamic acid is more effective than a placebo in preventing nerve damage in patients receiving vincristine for Wilms' tumor, rhabdomyosarcoma, acute lymphoblastic leukemia, or non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. PURPOSE: This randomized phase III trial is studying glutamic acid to see how well it works compared to a placebo in reducing nerve damage caused by vincristine in young patients receiving vincristine for Wilms' tumor, rhabdomyosarcoma, acute lymphoblastic leukemia, or non-Hodgkin's lymphoma.

Calcium Gluconate and Magnesium Sulfate in Preventing Neurotoxicity Caused By Oxaliplatin in Patients...

Colorectal CancerNeurotoxicity

RATIONALE: Calcium gluconate and magnesium sulfate may prevent or lessen neurotoxicity caused by oxaliplatin. It is not yet known whether calcium gluconate and magnesium sulfate are more effective than a placebo in preventing neurotoxicity caused by oxaliplatin in patients receiving combination chemotherapy. PURPOSE: This randomized phase III trial is studying calcium gluconate and magnesium sulfate to see how well they work compared to a placebo in preventing neurotoxicity caused by oxaliplatin in patients receiving combination chemotherapy for stage II, stage III, or stage IV colorectal cancer that has been completely removed by surgery.

Glutamine in Treating Neuropathy Caused by Vincristine in Young Patients With Lymphoma, Leukemia,...

Kidney CancerLeukemia4 more

RATIONALE: Glutamine may help lessen neuropathy caused by chemotherapy. It is not yet known whether glutamine is more effective than a placebo in treating neuropathy caused by vincristine. PURPOSE: This randomized phase II trial is studying glutamine to see how well it works compared to a placebo in treating neuropathy caused by vincristine in young patients with lymphoma, leukemia, or solid tumors.

Vitamin E in Preventing Peripheral Neuropathy Caused by Chemotherapy in Patients Receiving Chemotherapy...

NeurotoxicityUnspecified Adult Solid Tumor1 more

RATIONALE: Vitamin E may prevent peripheral neuropathy caused by chemotherapy in patients with cancer. It is not yet known whether vitamin E is more effective than a placebo in preventing peripheral neuropathy caused by chemotherapy in patients receiving chemotherapy for cancer. PURPOSE: This randomized phase III trial is studying vitamin E to see how well it works compared with placebo in preventing peripheral neuropathy caused by chemotherapy in patients receiving chemotherapy for cancer.

Gabapentin in Treating Peripheral Neuropathy in Cancer Patients Undergoing Chemotherapy

NeurotoxicityPain

RATIONALE: Gabapentin may be effective in relieving pain and other symptoms of peripheral neuropathy. It is not yet known if gabapentin is effective in treating peripheral neuropathy in cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy. PURPOSE: Randomized phase III trial to determine the effectiveness of gabapentin in treating pain and other symptoms of peripheral neuropathy in cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy.

Duloxetine in Treating Peripheral Neuropathy Caused by Chemotherapy in Patients With Cancer

NeurotoxicityPain3 more

RATIONALE: Duloxetine may lessen peripheral neuropathy caused by chemotherapy. It is not yet known whether duloxetine is more effective than a placebo in treating peripheral neuropathy caused by chemotherapy. PURPOSE: This randomized phase III trial is studying duloxetine to see how well it works compared with a placebo in treating peripheral neuropathy caused by chemotherapy in patients with cancer.

Combination Chemotherapy in Treating Patients With Metastatic Ovarian Cancer or Non-small Cell Lung...

Lung CancerNeurotoxicity1 more

RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy use different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. Combining more than one drug and giving the drugs in different combinations may kill more tumor cells. PURPOSE: Randomized phase II double-blinded trial to study the effectiveness of paclitaxel and carboplatin given with either amifostine or placebo in patients with metastatic stage III or stage IV ovarian cancer or metastatic stage III or stage IV non-small cell lung cancer.
