The Role of SCUBE-1 in Ischemia-reperfusion Injury
GonarthrosisDiabetesOne consequence of tissue damage caused by tourniquet is ischemia-reperfusion injury. Short-term ischemia leads to vasodilatation and reactive hyperemia resulting in post-ischemic reperfusion microcirculation failure and tissue edema that extends from 30 minutes to 4 hours. SCUBE-1 is a newly defined cell surface molecule. It emerges from many developing cells, including endothelium and platelets. Immunohistochemical demonstration of subendothelial matrix deposition in atherosclerosis in humans. We did not find any study that showed the post-ischemic regression of scube 1, which was shown to be significantly higher in ischemic events in the literature. in this study is aimed to investigate the location / sensitivity of SCUBE-1 in diabetics and nondiabetics after application of regional anesthesia for ischemia-reperfusion injury induced by tourniquet application in knee prosthesis attempts in our aimed patients and compare this with other total antioxidant status (TAS) and MDA of ischemia-reperfusion parameters
Determinants of Functional Ability, Perceived Health, and Interaction With Multimorbidity in Hip...
OsteoarthritisHip and knee osteoarthritis (OA) is an important health problem with a high prevalence and significant consequences on functional ability, perceived health, restriction of autonomy and handicap. The weight of multimorbidities and their interaction on functional ability and perceived health are left unexplored. This project will rely on the cohort KHOALA, representative, multiregional, of 881 prevalent cases (symptomatic hip and knee OA). Main objective: to describe the evolution over time of pain, functional ability, social participation and quality of life in subjects with hip and knee OA to identify prognosis factors of disease evolution (socio-demographic, clinical, and other health parameters) to determine interactions with comorbidities, other personal and environmental factors (ICF model). Concurrent objective: to improve measurement of perceived health specific to hip and knee OA by the OAKHQOL by improving its metrologic performances based on item response theory. Task 1: To prepare an improved measurement scale, available as a judgment criteria for the 3rd year of cohort follow up, over the april 2010-march 2012 period, the mini-OAKHQOL Task 2: Evaluation of the cohort in 2010-2012 (year 3 of follow up) in a repeated measure design to best assess the evolution of perceived health and functional ability over time, and to identify stability of deterioration of autonomy. Perspectives: This project targets to provide public health deciders with information of good quality to help them manage determinants of perceived health in OA subjects, as essential factors to health care resource utilization in their various modalities.
EMBARK Follow-up Project
Osteoarthritis of the KneeThe purpose of the EMBARK Follow-up Project (EFP) is to determine if there is a significant correlation between post-study massage-seeking and changes in pain reported by participants during the Exploring Massage Benefits for Osteoarthritis of the Knee (EMBARK) parent study (NCT00970008). The EFP hypothesizes that a positive correlation exists between pain relief during the parent study and post-study massage-seeking behavior.
Predicting Poor Outcomes After Primary Knee Arthroplasty
OsteoarthritisKneeAim To identify through data analysis key patients, surgeon and operative dependent variables which will improve the performance of knee replacement for primary osteoarthritis Research Question Can the investigators identify association between outcomes and patients characteristics using existing (already collected) datasets What are the characteristics of patients with poor outcome after knee replacement What can be done to improve the outcome of patients at risk of poor results
Clinical Outcomes With Omni Apex Ultracongruent Knee System
OsteoarthritisKneeA prospective, matched case comparison of total knee arthroplasty with the OMNI Apex Ultracongruent vs. Triathlon® CS tibial insert vs. the Triathlon® PS tibial insert.
Non-surgical Treatment of Knee Osteoarthritis - a Comparison of Effects in 2200 Patients
Knee OsteoarthritisThe purpose of this study is to assess whether radiographic osteoarthritis severity (OA; Kellgren-Lawrence scale) is associated with self-reported improvement in pain after non-surgical treatments (physiotherapy, pain killers, injection, other treatments). The hypothesis is that radiographic OA severity is inversely associated with self-reported improvement.
A Measurement of Knee Osteoarthritis Usual Care
OsteoarthritisKnee3 moreOsteoarthritis is the most common affection of joints worldwide. Multiple international guidelines on the approach and treatment of knee osteoarthritis are available. Nevertheless there seems to be a gap between usual care and the preferred one. A vigorous set of evidence-based quality indicators on osteoarthritis diagnosis and therapy was developed by a multidisciplinary expert team. This project aims to map usual care and to explore the gaps between usual care and international guidelines in a second stage. This will enable us to develop a tightly targeted quality improvement intervention later on.
Role of Bone in Knee Osteoarthritis (OA)
OsteoarthritisKneeThe purpose of the study is to investigate protein and gene expression among damaged knee tissues. We will perform MRI's on subjects prior to total knee replacement to identify the location of bone marrow lesions. Connective tissues including tendon, ligament, and meniscus specimens normally discarded from total joint replacements will be used for live cell harvest, and protein and gene expression analyses of tissue or cultured cells.
Influence of Whole Body Vibration Compared to Conventional Physiotherapy in Patients With Gonarthrosis...
Osteoarthritis40 patients with osteoarthritis of the knee will be randomly assigned to conventional physiotherapy on the one and whole body vibration exercises on the other hand. The duration of the training will be 6 weeks, three times a week. The outcome will be measured by WOMAC and SF-12 scores relating to pain and quality of life. The second outcome criteria will be a motion analysis and balance testing before and after the training. The follow-up is 26 weeks.
Understanding the Differences in the Management of Patients With Arthritis of the Knee or Hip
OsteoarthritisArthritis5 moreThe purpose of this study is to examine cultural and clinical context factors in African-American and white veterans with knee or hip osteoarthritis with a focus on how these factors may be potentially modifiable determinants of willingness to consider joint replacement.
