The Effectiveness of Behavioral Graded Activity in Patients With Osteoarthritis of the Hip and/or...

Osteoarthritis

We performed a randomized controlled trial to study the effectiveness of Behavioral graded activity (BGA) in patients with OA of the hip or knee. It was hypothesised that in the long term BGA results in less pain, less limitations in activities, and better patient global assessment (i.e. the effect of treatment perceived by patients themselves), compared to usual care of physiotherapists (UC). UC was operationalized as physiotherapeutic care according to the Dutch physiotherapy guideline for patients with hip and/or knee OA. It was also investigated whether specific subgroups of patients benefited more from BGA and which factors influenced the success of BGA-treatment. Also, it will be investigated whether differences exist in exercise adherence and whether there is a relationship between exercise adherence and long-term effectiveness.

Effects of Dry Needling Technique in Hip Muscles in Subjects With Grade I-III Hip Osteoarthritis...

Hip Osteoarthritis

Dry needling is a new treatment technique, addressed to mechanical pain of the neuromusculoskeletal system. Recent investigations has developed new hypothesis about the etiology of the osteoarthritis and could be in relation to musculoskeletal disorders, but there is no published studies evaluating the results of this technique in hip osteoarthritis patients. The objective of this trial is to evaluate if dry needling is more effective in symptoms, function, range of motion, strength, muscular length, pain threshold and compared to sham dry needling and control. For this purpose the investigators conduct a randomized controlled trial double-blind (patient and examiner). The investigators included patients diagnosed of hip osteoarthritis Grade I-III by Scale of Kellgren and Lawrence. Patients included are randomized into 3 groups one receive Dry needling, other sham dry needling and the other is a control. Groups receive 3 treatment sessions. The variables are measured at the beginning and end of treatment. And also some variables are measured before and after each session. Patients who participated in sham dry needling or control group, when the intervention finish the investigators will be given the opportunity to receive the actual technique.

Comparison of Hyaluronic Acid and Corticosteroid Intra-articular Injections for the Treatment of...

Coxarthrosis

Abstract Background: The effect of intra-articular treatment of hip osteoarthritis with hyaluronic acid in the hip joint is not based on large randomized controlled trials. Hyaluronic acid is a well established treatment for osteoarthritis of the knee. Methods: Randomized controlled trial with three-armed parallel-group design. The patients meeting the inclusion criteria will be randomized into one of the following groups: infiltration of the hip joint with hyaluronic acid, with corticosteroids or with bupivacaine 0,125%. Pain VAS, Harris Hip Score and HOOS were scored during follow-up. The patients will be asked to determine their situation as worse, stabile or better then at the time of enrollment. There will be asked if they use painkillers and if they have complications/adverse events. These outcome measure instruments will be used at the time of enrollment in the study prior to any injection, and then again at six weeks, 3 and 6 months after the initial injection. The six-month follow-up period begins for all patients on the date the first injection will be administered.
