End-range Mobilization on Pressure Pain Threshold

Knee Osteoarthritis

Pain in knee osteoarthritis (OA) represents increased pain intensity due to peripheral and central sensitivity. Pressure pain threshold (PPT) is a widely applied (used) method for measuring the magnitude of peripheral and central sensitivity in knee OA. Among several manual therapy techniques increasing PPT in knee OA, the effect of end-range mobilization has not been evaluated so far. The aim of this study was to investigate the immediate effect of end-range mobilization compared to placebo on increase of PPT and some function-related measures.

Effects of Short Wave Diathermy Added on Dextrose Prolotherapy Injections in Osteoarthritis of the...

Knee Osteoarthritis

Goal: To show the effects of short wave diathermy added on prolotherapy injections in osteoarthritis of the knee on pain, physical functioning and quality of life. Material and Methods: 63 patients with osteoarthritis of the knee with Kellgren-Lawrence (K-L) class 2 or 3 were included in the study. Patients were randomized to two grous, first being dextrose prolotherapy+ short wave diathermy(SWD), and second being dextrose prolotherapy with sham SWD. Patients were injected with dextrose prolotherapy solutions in the beginning, 3rd and 6th week of the study, for a total of 3 times, and took 20 minutes of SWD after injection(true or sham). Western Ontorio and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC), Visual Analogous Scale for pain(VAS) and Short Form Health Survey (SF-36)were applied before, after(6th week) and at the 3rd month of treatment.

Zingiber and Acmella Against Knee Osteoarthritis

PainOsteo Arthritis Knee

One-group pretest-posttest quasi-experimental design in which primary outcomes were: a) the evaluation of pain intensity, by a 30-days Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) and b) the assessment of knee function by Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Arthritis Index and by Tegner Lysholm Knee Scoring collected at baseline, at 15 and 30 days after treatment. Secondary outcomes were the evaluation: c) of Health-related quality of life, by the ShortForm36, d) of inflammation by C-reactive protein and Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate, and e) of body composition by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry measured at baseline and 30 days after treatment.

Cocogen Trial: COoled Versus COnventional Radiofrequency Treatment of the GENicular Nerves for Chronic...

Knee Osteoarthritis

Knee osteoarthritis is a progressive degenerative process that affects joint cartilage and the subchondral bone. Approximately 10% to 30% of all osteoarthritis patients suffer from disabling symptoms such as pain, stiffness and loss of function leading to psychological and sleeping disorders and a diminished quality of life. When conservative treatment fails to treat the symptoms, a total knee arthroplasty can be performed. However, this procedure is not suitable for all patients. For these specific groups of patients a radiofrequent treatment of the genicular nerves might be an alternative treatment option. Multiple researchers investigated the effect of conventional and later also, cooled radiofrequent treatment of the genicular nerves, with promising results for both techniques. However, the techniques have never been compared in a randomised controlled trial. This study is designed to assess the feasibility of conducting a large RCT comparing pain relief and costs after a conventional radiofrequency treatment of the genicular nerves (superomedial, superolateral and inferomedial) versus a cooled radiofrequency treatment.

Efficacy of Ipack Block and Surgeon's Joint Infiltration in Total Knee Arthroplasty

Osteo Arthritis Knee

Total knee arthroplasty(TKA) is an effective modality for the treatment of advanced osteoarthritis of the knee joint with excellent outcomes. With 719,000 cases being performed as of 2010, the incidence is expected to increase up to 3.48 million procedures annually by 2030.
