In Vivo Kinematics for Subjects Implanted With Klassic Total Knee Arthroplasty (TKA)

Total Knee ArthroplastyOsteo Arthritis Knee2 more

In vivo knee kinematics will be assessed for 20 subjects that have been implanted with a Total Joint Orthopedics Klassic knee system by Dr. Aaron Hofmann of the Hofmann Arthritis Institute's Center for Precision Joint Replacement. This is the location from which all participants will be recruited and where fluoroscopy data collection will occur. Participants will undergo fluoroscopic surveillance of their implanted knee using a C-arm fluoroscopic unit while performing a deep knee bend activity at least six months post-operatively.

A Novel Smartphone Application for "Smart" Knee Osteoarthritis Trials

OsteoarthritisKnee

The overarching goal is to develop a mHealth App that can use smartphone embedded sensors to objectively collect physical function data in individuals with knee osteoarthritis (KOA) in the context of daily life.

EMBARK Follow-up Project

Osteoarthritis of the Knee

The purpose of the EMBARK Follow-up Project (EFP) is to determine if there is a significant correlation between post-study massage-seeking and changes in pain reported by participants during the Exploring Massage Benefits for Osteoarthritis of the Knee (EMBARK) parent study (NCT00970008). The EFP hypothesizes that a positive correlation exists between pain relief during the parent study and post-study massage-seeking behavior.

Predicting Poor Outcomes After Primary Knee Arthroplasty

OsteoarthritisKnee

Aim To identify through data analysis key patients, surgeon and operative dependent variables which will improve the performance of knee replacement for primary osteoarthritis Research Question Can the investigators identify association between outcomes and patients characteristics using existing (already collected) datasets What are the characteristics of patients with poor outcome after knee replacement What can be done to improve the outcome of patients at risk of poor results

A Measurement of Knee Osteoarthritis Usual Care

OsteoarthritisKnee3 more

Osteoarthritis is the most common affection of joints worldwide. Multiple international guidelines on the approach and treatment of knee osteoarthritis are available. Nevertheless there seems to be a gap between usual care and the preferred one. A vigorous set of evidence-based quality indicators on osteoarthritis diagnosis and therapy was developed by a multidisciplinary expert team. This project aims to map usual care and to explore the gaps between usual care and international guidelines in a second stage. This will enable us to develop a tightly targeted quality improvement intervention later on.

Non-surgical Treatment of Knee Osteoarthritis - a Comparison of Effects in 2200 Patients

Knee Osteoarthritis

The purpose of this study is to assess whether radiographic osteoarthritis severity (OA; Kellgren-Lawrence scale) is associated with self-reported improvement in pain after non-surgical treatments (physiotherapy, pain killers, injection, other treatments). The hypothesis is that radiographic OA severity is inversely associated with self-reported improvement.

Role of Bone in Knee Osteoarthritis (OA)

OsteoarthritisKnee

The purpose of the study is to investigate protein and gene expression among damaged knee tissues. We will perform MRI's on subjects prior to total knee replacement to identify the location of bone marrow lesions. Connective tissues including tendon, ligament, and meniscus specimens normally discarded from total joint replacements will be used for live cell harvest, and protein and gene expression analyses of tissue or cultured cells.

Understanding the Differences in the Management of Patients With Arthritis of the Knee or Hip

OsteoarthritisArthritis5 more

The purpose of this study is to examine cultural and clinical context factors in African-American and white veterans with knee or hip osteoarthritis with a focus on how these factors may be potentially modifiable determinants of willingness to consider joint replacement.

Influence of Whole Body Vibration Compared to Conventional Physiotherapy in Patients With Gonarthrosis...

Osteoarthritis

40 patients with osteoarthritis of the knee will be randomly assigned to conventional physiotherapy on the one and whole body vibration exercises on the other hand. The duration of the training will be 6 weeks, three times a week. The outcome will be measured by WOMAC and SF-12 scores relating to pain and quality of life. The second outcome criteria will be a motion analysis and balance testing before and after the training. The follow-up is 26 weeks.
