Characteristics of Patients Declining INKA Trial Participation

Knee Osteoarthritis

The objective of this study is to compare baseline characteristics of overweight knee OA patients accepting vs. declining enrolment in the INKA trial (NCT05172843) to explore if enrolled patients differ systematically from the declining participants with respect to both measured as well as unmeasured baseline characteristics.

Preventing Injured Knees From osteoArthritis: Severity Outcomes

OsteoarthritisKnee2 more

This study is being done to find out if metformin is effective at reducing pain by delaying the onset of post-traumatic osteoarthritis (PTOA) after anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction. This research study will compare metformin to placebo. The placebo tablet looks exactly like metformin, but contains no metformin. Placebos are used in research studies to see if the results are due to the study drug or due to other reasons. Metformin is approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to treat type II diabetes. Notably, it also has anti-inflammatory effects, suggesting it could benefit people who have an ACL injury and are undergoing ACL reconstruction.

Adductor Ratio in Severe Varus Gonarthrosis

OsteoarthritisKnee2 more

The restoration of the joint line (JL) is essential for the proper functioning of Total Knee Arthroplasty (TKA). The exact position of JL can be determined using anatomical landmarks such as femoral condylar width (TEW), tibial tubercle, fibular head, and adductor tubercle during preoperative planning or intraoperatively. However, in cases of severe varus deformity in Type M gonarthrosis, it is unknown which method is most suitable for accurately determining the precise JL position. The aim of this study is to identify the most appropriate method for determining the JL position in Type M gonarthrosis. To achieve this goal, two groups of patients with Type 1A and Type M gonarthrosis will be compared by measuring preoperative values and comparing them with intraoperative reference values.

The Influence of Coronally Knee Alignment on the Tibial Tuberosity Rotation

Knee Osteoarthritis

The primary aim of this study is to find a possible correlation between tibial tuberosity rotation and coronal leg alignment. If correlation exists, a more individual tibial component rotation might be proposed during a total knee arthroplasty.

Metalloproteinase SNPs -1575 G/A MMP-2836 A/G MMP-9 and -77 A/G MMP-13 and Risk for Developing Knee Osteoarthritis in Greek Population

Does the presence of gene polymorphisms -1575G / A in the MMP-2 gene, 836A / G in the MMP-9 gene and -77A / G in the MMP-13 gene, affect the risk of developing idiopathic knee osteoarthritis in the Greek population?

Electrochemical Behavior of Biomedical Alloys Exposed to Human Synovial Fluid

ArthroplastyReplacement3 more

Biomedical implant metals are reactive when in contact with body fluids. Some reactions may adverse the biocompatibility character of the material and should be studied. This can be achieved by direct measurement through electrochemical, gravimetric, spectrophotometric and surface analysis of reaction occurring at the interface between functionalized metal samples and body fluids (synovia) directly extracted from patients. The general aim of this project is to contribute to develop a comprehensive vision of interfacial reactions occurring on biomedical alloy surfaces exposed to human synovial fluid and to link them to clinical data

Prediction of Outcomes Following Total Knee Replacement- Pilot

OsteoarthritisKnee1 more

This study seeks to examine multiple risk factors as predictors of pain and function following total knee arthroplasty (TKA). Risk factors will be measured pre-surgically using psychophysical testing procedures, multimodal evaluation of sleep, standardized questionnaires. Additionally, this study will collect pilot data on a brief mindfulness-based cognitive-behavioral treatment that may help to improve long-term TKA outcomes. The pilot study compared TKA patients that received brief mindfulness-based cognitive behavioral therapy (MBCBT) to the treatment-as-usual (TAU) group from the parent study.
