Durolane Versus Phosphate Buffered Saline (PBS) in Knee Osteoarthritis

Knee Osteoarthritis

The purpose of the study is to determine whether a single intra-articular injection of Durolane 4.5 mL is superior to a single injection of PBS 4.5 mL for the relief of joint pain in patients with osteoarthritis of the knee.

Oxford Signature vs. Conventional Global Study

OsteoarthritisOsteoarthritis2 more

This study will compare alignment criteria in the Oxford Partial Knee using conventional instrumentation and Signature Custom Guides in order to determine if the use of the Signature Custom Guides results in a higher percentage of knees achieving optimal alignment. The study will also examine outcomes with high volume surgeons (>30 cases/year) and low volume surgeons (<10 cases/year).

Optimization of Synvisc-One for Knee OA

Knee Osteoarthritis

The study hypothesis is that the use of Synvisc-One will improve physical therapy compliance and performance, resulting in improved knee function and pain when compared to a group that receives a sham injection (an injection that does not have medicine) only before a standardized physical therapy regimen over 10 weeks.

PB125, Osteoarthritis, Pain, Mobility, and Energetics

OsteoarthritisKnee3 more

Nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) is an important regulator in the body. It controls how well cells protect themselves against stress. PB125 (Pathways Bioscience) is a plant based activator of this important regulator Nrf2. PB125 is made up of three plant extracts (rosemary, ashwagandha, and Sophora japonica) so that it contains these things; 1. Carnosol, 2. Withaferin A, and 3. Luteolin. Carnosol comes from rosemary leaves. Rosemary is a spice often used in Italian foods and grown in many herb gardens all around Fort Collins. Withaferin A comes from the medicinal plant Withania somnifera, also called ashwagandha. Ashwaganda is commonly known as "Indian Winter cherry" or "Indian Ginseng" and it is one of the most important herbs of Ayurveda (the traditional system of medicine in India) used for millennia. Finally, luteolin is found widely in plants including those present in the diet (peppers, onions, celery, herbs/spices). Some people purchase these herbs commercially, and take them on their own for a variety of purposes. Typically, when you buy them, they will be in much higher doses than they are in PB125. What makes PB125 different is that very low doses of each of the 3 components work together-synergistically-to activate Nrf2 and increase the ability of cells to respond to stress. It is unknown if there are any benefits to taking PB125 and the risks are currently unknown. The purpose of this study is to examine changes in muscle, in joint pain, in mobility (standing and walking) and in leg strength that occur after consuming PB125 every day for 3 months. We want to make these measurements in people who have been diagnosed with mild to moderate osteoarthritis-a degenerative joint disease-in their knees.

Cognitive Bias and Heuristics in Patients With Knee Osteoarthritis

Knee Osteoarthritis

This study aims to understand if certain cognitive biases and heuristics are present in patients with knee osteoarthritis being treated with open label placebo (saline injections in the knee). A predefined survey will investigate the affect heuristic and group interviews patients who have responded well or not so well respectively will be used to examine if other cognitive biases or heuristics are present. Cognitive biases are systematic patterns of deviation from norm or rationality in judgment, while heuristics are tactics, or mental shortcuts to aid in the decision-making process.

Physiotherapy in Knee Osteoarthritis

Knee Osteoarthritis

Osteoarthritis symptoms can be managed with non-drug treatments such as patient education, exercise or weight loss interventions. Cryotherapy is one of the effective method to reduce joint inflammation, pain and improve function. Another method is joint mobilization, which can also reduce pain and improve function. Based on this theory, it was hypothesized that cryotherapy will have better effect on pain and the quality of life, whereas joint mobilization will be more effective on knee function. The aim of the study was to compare the effects of different physiotherapy methods on pain, knee joint function and quality of life in individuals with osteoarthritis.

The Effects of Non-Immersive Virtual Reality Exercises on Muscle Excitability in Knee Osteoarthritis...

Knee OsteoarthritisVirtual Reality

The main goal of this sham-controlled clinical trial is to learn the excitability levels of the muscles around the knee and balance using objective measurement methods in patients with knee osteoarthritis of non-immersive virtual reality application. The secondary aims of the study are to investigate in which direction the proprioception, physical function level, independence level in activities of daily living, muscle endurance around the knee and patient satisfaction change with non-immersive virtual reality application in patients with knee osteoarthritis. In this study, main questions are to answer: Are non-immersive virtual reality-based knee exercises effective on muscle excitability around the knee and balance in patients with knee osteoarthritis? Are non-immersive virtual reality-based knee exercises effective in improving the level of physical function in patients with knee osteoarthritis? The data collection part of this study will be carried out on volunteers, male and female, who have been diagnosed with knee osteoarthritis by a Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation specialist at Erzurum Atatürk University Training and Research Hospital. After informing the participants about the study, the consent form will be signed. Participants will be patients receiving routine outpatient physical therapy. The study was planned as a randomized controlled trial with a sham-control group. The study group will receive non-immersive virtual reality in addition to traditional physiotherapy, and the control group will receive sham virtual reality exercise in addition to traditional physiotherapy.

Prospective Evaluation of Subchondroplasty in Advanced Knee Osteoarthritis.

Knee Osteoarthritis

The goal of this observational study is to evaluate the technique of subchondroplasty in patients with advanced knee osteoarthritis. The main question it aims to answer is: • Does the subchondroplasty technique with the administration of AccuFill Porous Bone Substitute Material (BSM) is effective in the relief of mechanical pain in patient with knee osteoarthritis ? Participants will go under a minimally invasive surgery procedure (subchondroplasty) and fulfil 3 validated questionnaires to assess pain, functional impairments and subjective improvement. This study will be conducted for 4 years.
