Gait Retraining for Runners With Knee Osteoarthritis

OsteoarthritisKnee

Tibiofemoral osteoarthritis (TFOA) is highly prevalent in older adults, and often causes symptoms and functional limitations. Physical activity is widely advocated in people with TFOA, and running is an easy and accessible activity that provides many benefits on general health. However, running induces high knee loads, which could potentially contribute to symptoms of runners with TFOA. Previous studies have suggested that running gait modifications can help in decreasing symptoms and knee loading in runners with knee conditions. Yet, no study has been conducted in runners with TFOA. This intervention study will investigate the effects of a 4-week running gait retraining program on symptoms and running biomechanics in runners with TFOA. We hypothesize that running modifications will decrease symptoms, improve function and reduce knee loading.

Arthroscopic Debridement vs Arthroscopic Hemi-Trapeziectomy on Patients With Thumb Carpometacarpal...

Osteoarthritis Thumb

Patients with thumb carpometacarpal joint osteoarthritis usually suffer from pain, joint enlargement, inflammation, deformity and loss of function. Conservative treatments usually are the first-line interventions, unfortunately some of the patients do not response to such treatments and surgical treatment will then be considered. Compare to other traditional surgical techniques, arthroscopic techniques has resulted in the potential to treat osteoarthritis in a minimally invasive approach, avoiding the need for a larger incision. Other advantages of arthroscopy include less scarring and joint contracture, less risk of neurovascular injury, improved appearance, limited morbidity and quicker recovery. Although arthroscopic methods have been proved to be effective, there is lack of high-level evidence based studies to conclude one operation is superior to another. Hence, this study is designed to investigate outcomes of the two arthroscopic surgical methods (arthroscopic debridement vs arthroscopic hemi-trapeziectomy with Mini TightRope). The result of this study is expected to provide significant evidence based clinical data for surgeons worldwide on treating the thumb carpometacarpal joint osteoarthritis.

Proximal Row Carpectomy vs Four-corner Fusion for Osteoarthritis of the Wrist

Wrist OsteoarthritisScapholunate Advanced Collapse

Study purpose is to compare the outcome after proximal row carpectomy (PRC) vs four-corner fusion (FCA) for SLAC/SNAC II-III type osteoarthritis (OA) in a double-blinded randomized controlled study setting. Patients with radiologically and clinically confirmed OA are randomized (1:1 computer generated sequence with random block size) to two parallel groups and will undergo either PRC or FCA. The study will be patient and assessor blinded. Baseline data is collected preoperatively and is followed by a follow-up visits at 2 and 6 weeks, 3, 6, 12 months, and 5, 10 years after the intervention. Unveiling of the allocation is at 12 months post-intervention.

Dry Cupping Therapy in Knee Osteoarthritis

Osteo Arthritis KneePain2 more

Introduction: Knee osteoarthritis (KOA) is the biggest cause of pain and disability worldwide. As a non-pharmacological approach, ventosatherapia has been used to control pain, improve function and quality of life. However, there is a lack of high-quality scientific evidence regarding its effects on this condition. Objective: To evaluate the effects of dry cupping on pain, function and quality of life in women with KOA. Methods: This is a randomized, blinded placebo-controlled protocol. 62 women diagnosed with KOA will be recruited, based on the clinical criteria of the American College of Rheumatology, who will be randomly divided into two groups (31 per group): dry cupping and dry cupping sham.

OsteoarthritisKnee

This study is a double-blind, randomized, placebo controlled, multi-center, superiority study to evaluate the efficacy and safety of JointStem, autologous adipose tissue derived mesenchymal stem cells (AdMSC), in patients diagnosed as knee osteoarthritis. Following a 2-week screening period, approximately 140 subjects will be randomly assigned into one of the following two arms in a 1:1 ratio (1 JointStem : 1 Placebo). After each subject completes 48-Weeks visit (Visit 8) and the data management team confirms all individual data have no issue, the individual database will be locked and the blinding will be open for the statistical analysis.
