The proposed study aims to objectively assess 2-year clinical and radiographic results for the rate of glenoid component loosening in total shoulder arthroplasty (TSA). This retrospective radiographic review will provide evidence for equivalence or superiority in curtailing loosening, a known complication in arthroplasty, when a hemostatic agent is utilized in conjunction with cement at the glenoid.

The telephone interviews will be conducted to gather information on goal setting and goal attainment from men and women with osteoarthritis.

Is it possible to improve the accuracy of injection into the acromio-clavicular joint with the use of ultrasound?

This is a feasibility study to determine if anti-inflammatory cytokines can be concentrated from patients with osteoarthritis.

Periodontitis (PD) has been postulated to be a risk factor for the onset and progression of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Recent reports suggest that infection with Porphyromonas gingivalis (P. gingivalis), a major oral pathogen in PD, could play a pivotal role in the development RA. The objective of this study is to examine the relationship of PD and P. gingivalis infection with the risk and severity of RA.

The primary objective is to document function of the structurally intact subscapularis after total shoulder arthroplasty by using electromyography. Structural integrity of the subscapularis will be confirmed using ultrasound. The secondary objective is to determine the diagnostic accuracy of the belly compression and lift off tests in evaluating the integrity and function of the subscapularis when compared to the ultrasound and electromyography (EMG). This will be accomplished by enrolling and evaluating patients with a primary diagnosis of osteoarthritis who have had a total shoulder replacement preformed by the PI from September 2003 through December 2007.

The dual mobility design concept for acetabular liners, as is used in the Restoration ADM Acetabular System, has been applied in various implants since its introduction by Gilles Bousquet in France in 1976. Dual mobility cups have shown good clinical results and have been particularly lauded for low incidence of dislocations. However, the wear performance of this design concept has not been proven to date. As wear particles are a possible contributing factor in aseptic loosening, the assessment of wear and fixation is an important step in proving this implant design. The proposed study will combine RSA and peri-prosthetic bone mineral density as well as outcome questionnaires to provide a complete in vivo evaluation of prosthesis fixation, polyethylene wear, and objective and subjective outcomes for the Restoration ADM Acetabular System.

By this study the investigators wish to (1) quantify hip strength and functional-performance deficits at discharge after fast-track total hip arthroplasty (THA), and (2) investigate if changes in thigh circumferences, or hip pain are correlated to changes in hip strength and functional-performance after fast-track THA.

This was a study to estimate the proportion of participants with osteoarthritis of the knee(s) who were treated with oral or topical analgesics for their symptoms, who did and did not report adequate pain relief at Baseline and to characterize their pain level over a 12-month follow-up period.
