Time-restricted Eating and Interval Training With Digital Follow-up

Overweight and Obesity

This study will investigate the effects of seven weeks of time-restricted eating combined with high-intensity interval training compared with a control group on body composition in adults with overweight/obesity. Participants in the intervention group will complete the intervention remotely and will receive weekly follow-up through online platforms (telephone, video call). Before and after the intervention, the investigators will measure the participants' body composition, physical fitness, fasting blood glucose and insulin, blood lipids, and blood pressure. Physical activity, diet, sleep quality, appetite, and adherence to the intervention will also be measured. Secondary sub-analyses of sex differences in the responses to the intervention will be performed.

Thread Embedding Acupuncture Combined With Auricular Acupuncture for Overweight and Obesity

Overweight or Obesity

Overweight and obesity are chronic non-communicable diseases with a rapidly increasing global prevalence. They constitute risk factors for various chronic conditions, including cardiovascular diseases, type 2 diabetes, chronic kidney disease, cancer, as well as musculoskeletal disorders and numerous other disorders, significantly impacting the quality of life. Numerous non-pharmacological interventions have been employed in the management of these conditions. Particularly, Auricular acupuncture (AA) has been a widely used and established method for weight management, owing to its effectiveness, safety, and convenience. Recently, a novel therapy known as Thread embedding acupuncture (TEA) has also demonstrated efficacy in weight reduction. Several studies have shown a substantial increase in treatment effectiveness when combining TEA with other acupuncture therapies. However, there is currently no available data on the combination of TEA with AA. This study is conducted to assess the efficacy and safety of combining TEA with AA compared with AA monotherapy in overweight and obesity.

Super-Rehab: a Novel Approach to Reverse Atrial Fibrillation

Atrial FibrillationOverweight and Obesity

The "Super Rehab: a novel approach to reverse atrial fibrillation?" study proposes to test the use of a novel lifestyle intervention (Super Rehab), in addition to standard care, for patients with symptomatic atrial fibrillation (AF) requiring rhythm control strategy who are overweight. As the main driver behind the selection of a rhythm-control strategy for patients with AF, the primary outcome will be an improvement in AF-related symptoms with Super Rehab versus Usual Care only. Key secondary outcomes will include the burden of AF, change in stroke risk, biochemical and cardiac functional and structural changes, and markers of quality-of-life and health economic costs.

Low-Calorie Diets on Type 2 Diabetes Remission

Type 2 Diabetes MellitusObesity1 more

The prevalence of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) has been increasing rapidly in China. China currently has ~130 million diabetes cases, and over 90% are T2DM. T2DM is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality, posing substantial clinical and public health challenges. Reversing T2DM with a significant amount of weight loss via consuming a low-calorie diet is possible, but no studies have been conducted to determine whether low-calorie diets will help achieve significant weight loss and diabetes remission among Chinese patients with T2DM. The investigators design a pilot study to assess the feasibility of a low-calorie diet intervention program on weight loss and diabetes remission in a Chinese population with T2DM.
