PACE-CALL: A Weight Control Intervention for Survivors of Childhood Leukemia

The purpose of this National Cancer Institute (NCI) funded study is to develop and test the acceptability and usability of a web & text message based weight loss intervention for childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) survivors. Childhood cancer survivors ages 7 - 18 will provide feedback during focus groups on a web and text message based program that was developed.

A Maintenance Program for the Be Fit Employee Wellness Program

This research study is being done: 1) to determine if the MGH Be Fit program helps employees to change their nutrition and exercise habits and lower their risk for chronic diseases, such as heart disease and diabetes and 2) to determine if a maintenance program following the Be Fit 12 week program will help employees to keep the positive health changes.

Treatment of Overweight Children and Adolescents

The intervention program "Obeldicks light" is developed for overweight children aged 8-16 years. This intervention is gender - and age specific. The 6-month intervention is based on nutrition course, behaviour therapy and exercise therapy. The evaluation compromised quality of structure, process and results of the intervention. 300 participants in a randomised controlled group design will be evaluated at 4 time points: baseline, end of intervention, 6 months after end of intervention and 12 months after end of intervention.Primary outcome measure is change of weight status as standard deviation score of BMI. Drop-outs will be interviewed to improve the intervention.

This is a dietary intervention study, which aims to explore different diet challenges for glucose metabolism, including carbohydrates and fasting dietary pattern. Considering the glucose responses to the same food are largely heterogeneous among people, this study integrates the concepts of precision nutrition and N-of-1 design. The study also aims to discover the different impact of the time-restricted diet (TRD) and the energy-restricted diet (ERD) on host metabolic health and our hair growth.

The investigators goal is to optimise physical activity interventions to help previously inactive women improve their body shape and composition. Many people seeking to lose weight or improve body composition initiate an exercise programme. The most common recommendation of an exercise intervention for someone attempting to manage their weight, has been to 'prescribe' the recommended 150 minutes of exercise per week (World Health Organisation), often using one mode of exercise. An alternative approach might be to offer a portfolio of activities, from which the exerciser can pick and choose, to facilitate greater amounts of physical activity. The problem with this is how do you account for the different intensities of walking, washing the car, playing badminton, cycling, jogging, etc? In this study, the investigators will try to overcome this barrier by allocating a number of "physical activity points" to each activity. Using this physical activity points system, participants will be provided with a points target that they can meet using any combination of activities. The investigators research aim is therefore to compare this points-based system against the traditional 5x30minute prescription (and sedentary control) for their ability to help previously inactive women to drop a dress size, increase fat burning, positively change their body composition and tone their tummy.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate if self-served portions and caloric intake in normal weight and overweight children will be influenced by a specially designed eating plates compared to similar size normal plates.

Mothers in Motion Program to Prevent Weight Gain in WIC Mothers (MIM)

Mothers in Motion will draw on the successes of the pilot intervention of the same name and will promote healthy lifestyle behavior changes (eating more fruits and vegetables, increasing physical activity, dealing with stress) in low-income WIC mothers of young children. The intervention group's weight change (difference between the initial enrollment and 3 months post intervention) will differ from the control group's weight change by an average of at least 2.8 pounds.

Evaluation of the BOKS Before-school Physical Activity Program

BOKS, Build Our Kids' Success, is a before-school physical activity program that has been implemented in over 2,000 elementary and middle schools. Students participate in the program for 12 weeks, two or three mornings per week for about 1 hour per session. This study if a non-randomized control trial seeking to 1) examine the extent to which participation in the before-school BOKS program improves, health, well-being, and performance, and 2) compare the results of a two-day-per-week versus a three-day-per-week program.
