OverweightHealthy1 moreMain objective of this clinical trial is to compare the oxidation rates of main carbohydrate and lipid substrates during exercises carried out in eccentric dynamic pedaling mode on a cycloergometer compared to concentric exercises (classic pedaling) at the same oxygen consumption (VO2). The hypothesis is that lipid oxidation during an eccentric exercise is higher than lipid oxidation during a concentric exercise, done in humans at the capacity of 30% of VO2max.

A candidate-gene approach will be applied in a cohort observational study, in which investigators will collect data from high school adolescent students. Participants underwent anthropometric and blood pressure measurements, as well as saliva and urine sample collection for genomic DNA extraction and renal function evaluation, respectively. Candidate genes previously implicated in salt-sensitive hypertension in adults will be tested to verify impact on blood pressure (BP) also among adolescents. Since inflammatory mechanisms may be involved in pathophysiology of hypertension and in endothelial dysfunction and atherosclerosis through reactive oxygen species, the baseline urinary excretion of inflammatory and oxidative stress markers in a subgroup of adolescents stratified according to ADD1 (alpha adducin) rs4961 genotypes will be assessed.

Following objective measurement of activity, participants will complete self-report and objective activity data, as well as the relationship between sedentary activities and food cravings will be examined. It is hypothesized that minutes of sedentary behavior, especially time spent in television viewing, will be significantly correlated with total and specific food cravings.
