Meal plans for persons with T2DM should comprise evenly spaced, complex carbohydrate portions in order to avoid post-prandial glucose spikes. Researchers have developed an expanded line of Caribbean-flavoured, low-calorie meal-replacement shakes which have been formulated to match the macronutrient and caloric content of a commercially available brand. In this trial investigators aim to (1) examine the change in glucose levels post intake of Caribbean vs the commercially available brand and (2) to conduct a comparative sensory analysis of the two shakes.

Weight Reduction With the Low-Insulin-Method
Overweight and ObesityBackground: Overweight and obesity affect health, quality of life and ability to work. Therefore, the Low-Insulin-Method was developed to support overweight and obese people in weight loss. Method: In a randomized controlled clinical trial, the effect of the lifestyle intervention program 'Low-Insulin-Method', delivered by the Low-Insulin-App including low-carb diet, self monitoring of weight, physical activity and telemedical coaching is examined compared to a control group without coaching. The learning contents are taught in 30 videos and 5 online meetings. The intervention group additionally gets 4 individual care calls. The state of health is examined at the beginning and after 12 weeks. Objective: The aim is to develop a training and counseling program for overweight or obese individuals with diabetes risk or type 2 diabetes, which can be used both for primary and for tertiary prevention of overweight-related diseases.

Effects of Ketogenic Diet in Overweight and Obese Women With Breast Cancer
Breast Cancer FemaleBreast cancer is the most common cancer type among women in Turkey and the world. Chemotherapy, surgery, radiotherapy, immunotherapy and hormone therapy are used in the treatment. Nutrition is one of the important factors affects cancer treatment. In recent years, there has been an increase in the number of clinical studies on the ketogenic diet (KD) in different types of cancer. In the literature, it has been shown the KD applied with chemotherapy improves the quality of life and decreases the body weight and tumour size in women with breast cancer. However, there is no comprehensive study evaluating the effect of KD on chemotherapy-induced sensory and motor neuropathy and survival in breast cancer patients. In this project, the KD will be planned for overweight and obese women diagnosed with breast cancer who will be treated with neoadjuvant chemotherapy. Tumour size, nutritional status, biochemical findings, anthropometric measurements, quality of life, sensory and motor polyneuropathy and survival will be evaluated. Fifty-six women with breast cancer who comply with the study criteria and are willing to participate in the study will be given an adequate and balanced healthy diet program during the standard neoadjuvant treatment (12 weeks) with anthracycline. After the interim evaluation, individuals will be randomly divided into two groups. Simultaneously with standard neoadjuvant therapy containing taxane (12 weeks), KD will be planned for the first group and the second group will continue on the adequate and balanced healthy diet program. After neoadjuvant therapy, the effects of diets on prognosis and other factors (nutritional status, biochemical findings, anthropometric measurements, quality of life, sensory and motor polyneuropathy, and survival) will be compared. In this study, unlike other studies, the first data on the effect of KD on chemotherapy-induced polyneuropathy and pathological response in women with breast cancer will be obtained. In this respect, it has the potential for nutritional practices in clinical oncology. The KD could improve body composition and the complications related to obesity and decrease polyneuropathy. Therefore, drug-using and application to the hospital could decrease. The results of the project will contribute to the improvement of the health and the quality of life of women, who are the most important element of society and the family.

Effect of Kimchi Intake on Body Fat in Overweight Subjects
ObesityKimchi, a traditional Korean food, is prepared through the fermentation of various ingredients. It has been reported that kimchi contains beneficial nutrients from its raw materials, as well as lactic acid bacteria (LAB) and their byproducts produced during fermentation. LAB play an important role in the fermentation process, during which the dominant LAB species emerge and undergo a transition process. Depending on the species and strain of LAB, it has specific functions such as promoting weight loss, reducing inflammation, and lowering cholesterol levels. In this study, the effects of kimchi produced from traditional recipe or kimchi fermented with lactic acid bacteria, which have anti-obesity effects, on body composition changes and metabolic disease index will be investigated in subjects with a BMI of between 23~30kg / m2.

The control group will be asked to follow a 12 calorie diet only. Each group will be followed for 12 weeks. Total body weight loss will be measured as well as appetite changes. Safety data will be collected throughout the study period. Safety and effectiveness will be determined based on differences between the groups.

The existing research for adolescents with overweight/obesity and loss of control (LOC) eating supports a stepped-care model of treatment in which enhanced behavioral weight loss treatment is the first line of treatment followed by more intensive therapeutic treatment for individuals with remaining emotional eating difficulties. Thus, in this proposed study, the investigators will systematically develop a stepped-care protocol and manualized interventions for adolescents with LOC and binge eating behaviors. The investigators will then evaluate the feasibility and acceptability of the interventions in a pilot trial and gather preliminary outcome data to inform development of a subsequent randomized controlled trial.

The findings of this study will demonstrate the suitability of the proposed approach to reduce comorbidities among similar populations exposed to traumatic events; the findings will also inform the World Trade Center Health Program's extensive research and clinical efforts with the potential to provide a preventive care model to reduce systemic inflammation and related chronic disease among WTC responders with PTSD.

Childhood ObesityIn this 3-phase study, following an initial small-scale (phase 1) feasibility trial, the aim of phase 2 of the project is to investigate whether a community-based, 12-month intervention for overweight and obese preschool children 2-6 years of age and their families will be effective in reducing the participants' degree of overweight (BMI z-score) and in improving quality of life. In the final phase (phase 3), participating children will be randomized to either receiving a multidisciplinary lifestyle intervention during the first 6 months (treatment arm), or 6 months later (control or wait list arm), in order to generate more robust effectiveness data. Participants will receive an additional free 6-month YMCA membership while participating in the study.
