Prevalence of Pain Disorders in Employees of French Furniture Shop.

In France, the Direction of Research, Studies, Evaluation and Statistics, in their 2015 report on "Chronic pain: the state of health of the population in France - Indicators associated with the Public health ", shows that 34.6% of the working population declare themselves to be facing psycho-social risks, including chronic pain disorders. The main survey conducted in France on chronic pain showed that 32% of French people expressed daily pain for more than 3 months, with 20% reporting chronic pain of moderate or severe intensity. According to a report by the HAS in 2009, about 30% of patients consulting for pain in pain center (CETD) are working and 20% are on sick leave or work-related accidents. Chronic pain would also be responsible in France for the limitation of professional activities in 6% of 25-64 year olds, 15% job losses, 12% changes in work responsibilities, 12% changes in employment and 18 % of associated depressions. In addition, 40% of chronic pain patients experienced a direct impact at work: loss, change in responsibilities and activity. Combined with the difficulty of understanding and thus treating chronic pain, these data demonstrate the challenge faced by occupational health services in their preventive, curative and palliative approach to chronic pathologies. Innovation for any new prevention and therapy for chronic pain then becomes necessary. The main objective of this first study will be the evaluation of the prevalence of pain disorders among the employees of French furniture shop. .

Students' Understanding and Beliefs About Pain Before and After a One-day Pain Science Education...

The beliefs held by students lead to behaviours in response to their pain which can be both helpful or a hindrance to how they manage their pain. The one-day education event aims to educate the cohort on the contemporary scientific understanding of persistent pain using a mixture of methods. It is hoped this event will result in an improvement in the alignment of beliefs and behaviours to contemporary understanding of persistent pain. The principal aim is to evaluate the pre-post knowledge and beliefs about pain following a one-day pain education event in year 12 students, aged 16 or above.

ElderTree Smart System for Older Adults

Multiple chronic conditions (MCCs) are costly and pervasive among older adults. MCCs account for 90% of Medicare spending, and 65% of Medicare beneficiaries have 3 or more chronic conditions; 23% have 5 or more. MCCs are often addressed in primary care, where time pressures force a focus on medication and lab results rather than self-management skills. The primary purpose of this study is to investigate whether voice-activated "smart" technology increases adoption and sustains use of an evidence-based electronic health intervention (Elder Tree, or ET) for older adults with multiple chronic conditions, and thereby improves its potential to widely enhance quality of life and health outcomes. ET is an existing intervention providing tools, motivation, and support on a computer platform to help older adults manage their health. An Agency for Health Care Research and Quality (AHRQ)-funded randomized controlled trial (RCT) found that ET improved quality of life and other factors among high users of primary care with multiple chronic conditions such as diabetes and hypertension. However, many people did not use it extensively, which is a common problem with all web apps.

Health-economic Evaluation of Interventional Pain Management Compared to Pain Rehabilitation

The overall aim of the study is to evaluate interventional pain management. This is done in three steps: To find matched controls to the patients in the study on cost-effectiveness of IPM and compare the results. To calculate cost-effectiveness of PRP during the period 2010-2016, on a national level. To calculate cost-effectiveness of PRP during the period 2017-2019, after the changed guidelines for PRP in Sweden. The two last steps are to provide a background to the results of IPM, and to see if the results in the subgroup of matched controls of PRP-patients differ from the results from the whole population.

Predicting Oxycodone Dose From Oral Fluid Drug Levels

This study will develop and test an algorithm that will estimate drug dosage from drug levels measured in oral fluid (saliva). Traditionally, urine has been used as the principle medium to monitor drug compliance in patients receiving opioids for chronic pain as well as those being treated for substance abuse. Recently, the use of saliva as an alternative to urine drug testing has been gaining in popularity. Oral fluid has several advantages over urine as a medium for drug screening. In this study, oral fluid, urine and blood specimens will be collected from volunteer patient donors with chronic pain taking opioid medications. Samples from the anonymous donor will be analyzed for opiate class drugs, using New York State Department of Health approved and validated laboratory methods. Analytical results and other information collected will assist in evaluating the use of oral fluid as a specimen to detect opiate drug levels. The measurement of drug concentrations in blood and oral fluid simultaneously will allow for the determination of the amount of oral fluid that will be needed for successful drug testing. It is proposed that by measuring oral fluid drug levels an estimate of the amount of drug taken will be possible.
