Emotion Study/Substudy: Flexible Brain Study

AgingEmotions1 more

The proposed research applies the highly innovative technology of real-time functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (rtfMRI) to examine plasticity of brain-regulatory mechanisms related to cognitive and affective processing and to determine benefits for cognition and affect in young and older adults and in Parkinson Disease (PD) patients.

A Study of Neurofeedback for the Treatment of Parkinson's Disease

Parkinson Disease

This study aims to reveal relationship between brain activities and the symptoms of Parkinson disease when a neurofeedback training was applied for them.

Effects of Lactobacillus Plantarum PS128 on the Parkinsonian Symptoms in Parkinson's Disease.

Parkinson Disease

This RCT study is designed to examine the extent to which L. plantarum PS128 can improve symptoms in PD patients. L. plantarum PS128 is a psychobiotic that regulates the level of dopamine in specific brain regions. Patients with PD will receive PS128 or placebo intervention for 12 weeks. Symptoms of PD will be clinically evaluated before and after the treatment, and the results will be compared.

PPMI Tau PET Imaging

Parkinson Disease

The Assessment of Brain Tau Burden in Participants with Parkinson's Disease in the PPMI Study (PPMI Tau PET Imaging) will evaluate if [18F] PI-2620 facilitates better understanding of Tau deposition in the brain in Parkinson's disease (PD).

Improving Quality of Life in Early Parkinson's Disease

Parkinson DiseaseDepression

The study will examine 30 patients between ages 50-80, newly diagnosed with early-stage Parkinson's Disease. Patients will be randomized to receive either Citalopram or Carbidopa-levodopa. The investigators' primary outcome measure will be change in quality of life over a prospective period of 6 months. Secondary outcome measures will include change in mood state and motor symptoms, as well as comparison of improvement between two treatments. Primary investigators would also like to collect quantitative electroencephalogram (qEEG) recordings, which is a reading of brain activity as an additional interest of this study. Primary investigators will assess the qEEG recordings for electrophysiological findings before and after interventions.

A STUDY TO EVALUATE THE EFFICACY OF CJH1 (CLR4001) IN PARKINSON'S DISEASE

Parkinson's Disease

The purpose of this study is to assess the ability of CJH1 to increase the sensitivity of dopamine receptors and thereby reduce symptoms of Parkinson's Disease.

A Trial of 18F-AV-133 and 18F-AV-45 Positron Emission Tomography (PET)

Dementia With Lewy BodiesAlzheimer's Disease1 more

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the ability to identify individuals with dopaminergic degeneration in group of patients with a clinical diagnosis of either dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB) or idiopathic Parkinson's disease and to differentiate them from Alzheimer's disease (AD) and control subjects.

Long-Term Vesicular Monoamine Transporter II Imaging and Clinical Assessment of Parkinson's Disease...

Parkinson Disease

A total 40 PD subjects will be included in this study. PD subjects between 20 and 80 years of age may be eligible for this study. Candidates are screened with a medical history and physical examination, and blood test.

Evaluation of 5-[123I]-A-85380 and SPECT Imaging in Individuals With Parkinsons Disease

Parkinson Disease

The underlying goal of this study is to assess [123I] 5-IA and SPECT imaging as a tool to detect nicotinic receptor activity in the brain of PD patients. All study procedures will be conducted at the Institute for Neurodegenerative Disorders (IND) and Molecular NeuroImaging (MNI) in New Haven, CT. Approximately 10 patients with a diagnosis of PD without cognitive changes will be recruited to participate in this study. Patients will be eligible to participate if they have a diagnosis of PD of more than 2 years duration and have no significant cognitive changes.
