Bioactive Glass and Platelet Rich Fibrin in Intrabony Defects

Periodontal DiseasesBone Resorption

Background: Platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) and bioactive glass putty has been shown to be effective in promoting reduction in probing depth, gain in clinical attachment, and defect fill in intrabony periodontal defects. The individual role played by bioactive glass putty in combination with PRF is yet to be elucidated. AIM: To compare the clinical effectiveness of the combination of Plaltelet Rich Fibrin and Bioactive Glass Putty and Bioactive glass putty regenerative techniques for intrabony defects in humans. Material and methods: Ten pairs of intrabony defects were surgically treated with PRF and Bioactive glass putty (Test group) on one side or bioactive glass putty (Control group) on other side. The primary outcomes of the study included changes in probing depth, attachment level and bone fill of Osseous defect. The clinical parameters were recorded at baseline, 3, 6, and 9 months. Radiographic assessment was done using standardized intra oral periapical radiographs. Comparisions were made within each group between baseline, 3 months, 6 months and 9 months using the ANOVA test followed by Bonferroni test.

Providing Preventive Periodontal Treatment to Hospitalized Patients With Diabetes

Type II DiabetesPeriodontal Disease

The purpose of this research intervention is to assess the oral health status and periodontal health of patients with diabetes hospitalized on a general medicine service, and to assess the effect of providing dental prophylaxis and motivational interviewing to patient health-seeking behaviors and provider attitudes towards oral health, as well as on patient health outcomes.

Minimally Invasive Non Surgical Therapy Versus Conventional Scaling and Root Planing for Treatment...

Periodontal Diseases

Minimally invasive non-surgical therapy (MINST) is a new approach towards regeneration of deep periodontal defects. Important part of MINST procedure, besides usage of magnification loupes and piezo-electric devices seems to be the usage of special mini-curettes, originally mini-five and after mini-five of Hu-Friedy. So far only descriptive data about the clinical effects of such procedure are available and comparative studies that would include other treatment alternatives are lacking. Therefore, the aim of our study is, on split-mouth model, to compare the number of diseased sites (defined by probing depth ˃ 4 mm and bleeding on probing) after conventional non-surgical therapy and MINST with the usage of special mini-curettes. In addition, new 3D parameters obtained from 3D optical scanning will be developed for evaluation of volume changes of soft tissues.

Study of Colonization of Strains L.Plantarum and L.Brevis in the Product AB-DENTALAC Chewing Gum...

Periodontal Disease

Study will follow a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled design with two groups in parallel,N of 40 patients in 6 weeks of follow up for the evaluation of two different posology models (daily consumption of probiotic gum, with or without previous professional oral cleaning). Probiotics have recently been used to combat oral diseases (plaque control, caries, halitosis, etc.), as a non-invasive natural therapy.

The Role of Probiotics in Periodontal Disease

Periodontal Diseases

In this randomized controlled trial, it was aimed to evaluate the effect of probiotics (chewable tablets) and kefir consumption in the initial periodontal treatment of periodontitis patients on the change of oral microbiota and treatment. In this clinical trial, 36 systemically healthy volunteers who were diagnosed with periodontitis who were admitted to Gazi University Faculty of Dentistry, Department of Periodontology were included. Besides the inclusion criteria, the nutritional habits of the patients were evaluated by questionnaire. For diagnosis, plaque index, gingival index, bleeding on probing, periodontal probing depth and clinical attachment level were examined. Patients were randomly divided into 3 groups; probiotic, kefir and control group. Following the periodontal diagnosis, clinical index records of the patients and subgingival microbial samples were obtained. The supragingival plaque sample was removed and the subgingival microbial dental plaque sample was gently taken with a sterile Gracey curette. In the same session, periodontal initial treatment was started. According to the groups, they were involved simultaneously with the treatment, kefir group was advised to consume kefir as a liquid once a day in 14 days; probiotics group was advised to consume as a chewable tablet once a day in 14 days; the control group was advised without additional food supplements. Periodontal indexes were repeated in the 1st and 3rd months. Subgingival plaque samples were taken at baseline and at 3 months and DNA sequencing was performed for Tanneralla forsythia (T. forsythia), Porphyromonas gingivalis (P. gingivalis), and Treponema denticola (T. denticola).

Use of Ozonized Water With Toothpaste and Mousse in Non Surgical Periodontal Therapy for Patients...

Diabetes Mellitus With Periodontal Disease

The aim of this study is to evaluate the efficacy of Peribioma Toothpaste and Mousse for home oral care in patients with Diabetes Mellitus Type 1. Patients will undergo a professional oral hygiene procedure, followed by irrigation with ozonized water. Patients will be randomly divided into two groups: Trial Group: patients will use Biorepair Peribioma Toothpaste and Mousse for home oral care Control Group: patients will use Biorepair Plus Parodontgel toothpaste for home oral care. The variations of the following indices will be evaluated at the baseline, after 3 and 6 months: glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c) , Clinical Attachment Level (CAL), Plaque Index (PI), Probing Pocket Depth (PPD) and Bleeding on Probing (BoP).

The Use of Leucocyte Platelet Rich Fibrin (L- PRF) Covered Perforated Guided Tissue Membrane for...

Periodontal Diseases

This study is the first to investigate the effect of leucocyte platelet rich fibrin (L-PRF) combined with perforated membrane in order to treat infrabony defects and assess their combined effect in clinical attachment level gain and filling of base of the defect (BD). The main hypothesis was that if the L-PRF act as a chemoattracttant for a higher number of periosteal derived periodontal cells (PDPCs) and gingival mesenchymal stem cells (GMSCs) encouraging their passage through the membrane perforations.
