Open Label Extension Study of tDCS Plus Guided Imagery for Women With Chronic Pelvic Pain (CPP)...

Chronic Pelvic Pain

This is an open label extension study trial of tDCS with a standardized guided imagery intervention. Up to 20 women with chronic pelvic pain, who completed participation in the initial randomized trial (IRB 2019-362) will be enrolled. Subjects will complete 5 tDCS treatments with guided imagery and a 1-week follow-up visit.

The Effect of Pelvic Floor Muscle Exercises Applied During Pregnancy on Genito-Pelvic Pain Level...

Genito-Pelvic PainPelvic Floor Muscle Exercise1 more

Abstract Introduction and hypothesis The goal of the study is figuring out the effect of pelvic floor muscle exercises on genito-pelvic pain levels during the postpartum period. Methods The data of the study, which was carried out in a randomized controlled experimental design, were collected in the antenatal policlinic of a public hospital between June-December 2019. There were 60 pregnant women in the experimental and control groups. Pelvic floor muscle exercises were applied to the pregnant women in the experimental group from the 30th week of gestation to the 6th postpartum week. The control group was not given pelvic floor muscle exercises training and only data collection forms were filled. During the study, the Descriptive Form, Verbal Category Scale, Pelvic Floor Distress Inventory-20, and Labour and Postpartum Information Form were applied to the pregnant women in both groups.

A Sham Controlled Study of the Effects of Ultrasonic Shockwaves as a Treatment for Chronic Pelvic...

Chronic Pelvic Pain

Introduction: Chronic pelvic pain with unknown pathology is a condition that affects both men and women. the condition is defined as pelvic pain lasting for a minimum of 6 months without any known etiology eg. cancer, infection or inherent anatomical abnormalities. Low intensity extracorporeal shockwave therapy (LIESWT) enables the practitioner to deliver a small amount of energy approximately 5 cm under the skin of the patient without damaging the skin. This have been shown to increase blood flow and accelerate healing which could also be beneficial in chronic pelvic pain patients. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of LIESWT on chronic pelvic pain. Methods: All patients will be treated at the Birthe Bonde clinic, in Copenhagen, Denmark. The investigators anticipate to include 100 chronic pelvic pain patients in the study. included patients will be randomized into two groups: active treatment or sham treatment. All patients will be required to provide a urine sample and a semen sample prior to final inclusion. Samples will be analyzed for microbial growth. Furthermore, patients will undergo a digital rectal exploration and finally all patients is required to provide an informed consent in order to be included in the study. A Storz Doulith SD1 T-Top (CE1275) will be used to generate shockwaves. Patients will receive the treatment once a week until their symptoms have seized or for a maximum of 6 times. Each treatment consists of 3000 shockwaves applied to the perineum with a energy density of 0.25-0.40 millijoule(mJ)/mm2 and a frequency of 3 hz. Participants will fill out a questionnaire one week before the treatment, one week, four weeks, and twelve weeks after the last treatment. Possible gains from this study: The investigators hope to provide further evidence for this treatment and consequently be able to offer the treatment as an alternative to the very limited array of treatments existing for this group of patients today. Ethics, funding, and publication: The study is performed in compliance with the Helsinki declaration. External funding have been applied for but not yet received. Participants will be informed of sources of external funding. The result of the study will be published as soon as possible, preferably in a peer-reviewed international journal.

Study of the Acute Effects of Guided Imagery and tDCS on Pain Levels in Women With Chronic Pelvic...

Pelvic PainChronic Pain

This is a single blind, randomized, exploratory study of transcranial direct stimulation (tDCS) intervention or sham tDCS administered with a standardized guided imagery intervention for chronic pelvic pain. Transcranial Direct Current Sstimulation (tDCS) is a non-invasive brain stimulation therapy. Guided Imagery is a form of hypnosis used to create relaxation.Up to 25 adult women with chronic pelvic pain will be enrolled and randomized (like a flip of a coin). Subjects will remain blinded throughout the study. Subjects will be randomized into one of the following four arms: active tDCS with guided imagery, active tDCS alone (without guided imagery), sham tDCS with guided imagery, or sham tDCS alone (without guided imagery).

The Effect of Nitroprusside on Intrauterine Device (IUD) Insertion

Cervical PainPelvic Pain

Increasing accessibility of long-acting reversible contraceptive methods, like intrauterine devices (IUDs), is an important strategy to reduce the risk of unintended pregnancy. Unfortunately, fear of IUD insertion in women who have not had children is common among health care providers and women alike, and this limits IUD use. To increase acceptance of this highly effective contraceptive, there is need to investigate novel, low cost, easily applied and accessible techniques to improve the insertion experience. This is a pilot study to evaluate the efficacy and tolerability of nitroprusside gel applied intracervically as an intervention to improve the IUD insertion experience for both patient and provider.

Study to Evaluate the Safety and Effectiveness of MRgFUS Compared With Myomectomy for the Treatment...

Uterine FibroidsBleeding1 more

The objective of this trial is to evaluate the safety and efficacy of ExAblate for the treatment of uterine fibroids. Women, seeking treatment for symptomatic uterine leiomyomata will be eligible for the study.Women who agree to participate will sign an informed consent and will be randomized to ExAblate treatment or myomectomy. All patients will be followed through the 36 month visit. Follow-up visits/telephone calls will be completed at 1 week, 2 weeks, 6 weeks, 3 months, 6, 12, 18, 24 and 36 months post treatment. Patients will be evaluated by assessing their overall physical and mental health as well as for device/procedure related adverse events.
