Interstitial Cystitis: Elucidation of the Psychophysiologic and Autonomic Characteristics (ICEPAC)...

Interstitial Cystitis/Painful Bladder SyndromeMyofascial Pelvic Pain

Interstitial cystitis/painful bladder syndrome (IC/PBS) causes severe bladder pain and extensive disability in a large group of women int he prime of their productive lives. Extensive study of the bladder itself has uncovered many abnormalities, but the investigators do not know if these are the cause or result of the disorder. None of these has led to any real long-term progress in treatment, so far. The investigators have found that other autonomic disorders often occur in both the patients themselves and in the family members of patients with IC/PBS. The investigators therefore propose to determine whether the main abnormality in IC/PBS actually lies in the autonomic nervous system, rather than the bladder. The investigators will do this through careful measurements of autonomic function and sensation in patients who have IC/PBS, both at rest, and under controlled psychological stress. The investigators will compare their measurements to patients with myofascial pelvic pain, to know which abnormalities are truly linked to IC/PBS, and which simply reflect the presence of pelvic pain.

Prevalence of Low Back and Pelvic Pain in Pregnant Women

Low Back PainPelvic Pain

The purpose of this study is to determine the prevalence of low back and pelvic pain in Spanish pregnant women. The results should allow for the identification of factors associated with a greater risk of having it during pregnancy. Once risk factors are identified, other studies can assess the effectiveness of measures to reduce this pain.

Global Study of Women's Health

EndometriosisInfertility2 more

Endometriosis, a condition in which the lining of the uterus grows on nearby tissues, is a common condition that affects women of reproductive age worldwide. The diagnosis of endometriosis is usually made at surgery. The most common symptom is pelvic pain. This pain may occur at the same time as menstrual bleeding, at other times of the cycle, or during or after sexual intercourse. Previous studies reveal the diagnosis of endometriosis is often delayed between 8 and 12 years after the first symptoms. Women with chronic pelvic pain report a lower quality of life. No studies, however, have been conducted to assess whether women with endometriosis-related pelvic pain are affected differently than those with pelvic pain from other or no identifiable causes. This large-scale study is designed to gather prospective epidemiological data on the impact of and risk factors for endometriosis across countries worldwide. A study of this scale and scope has never been performed; it is anticipated that the study will provide novel insights into the effects of the condition and associated symptoms on women s lives across different countries, as well as explore differences in the effects of various potential risk factors. This is an international study conducted at more than 20 sites worldwide and coordinated by Oxford University in the United Kingdom. At the National Institutes of Health, 250 premenopausal women between 18 and 45 years of age who are having their first diagnostic laparoscopy or laparoscopy for tubal sterilization will participate. None will have had a prior diagnosis of endometriosis through surgery. Women will be informed about the study when their laparoscopy is scheduled. Procedures Patient completion of an online questionnaire before scheduled surgery. The following will be assessed by the questionnaire: Quality of life General gynecologic and medical history Family history General information Use of health care services Risk factors Surgeon completion of questionnaire about surgical findings. Follow-up: Women who consent will be contacted every 1 2 years.

Investigation of Acute Effects of Myofascial Trigger Point Release in Women With Chronic Pelvic...

Pelvic PainPelvic Floor; Relaxation1 more

The patients diagnosed with pelvic pain will be included in the study. Orthopedic tests for pelvic pain were performed after routine gynecological examinations. After perineometer measurement, pelvic floor muscle sensitivity grading, ultrasound, and pain score evaluation, participants will be randomized and divided into 3 groups. According to a randomization plan the first group will be instructed by a physiotherapist to receive an internal myofascial trigger point release technique, the second group receive an external myofascial trigger point release technique, and the third group receive a video of relaxation exercises related to pelvic pain. After the application, measurement of perineometer and pelvic floor muscle sensitivity grading, ultrasound, and pain evaluations will be repeated.

Chronic Prostatitis/Chronic Pelvic Pain Syndrome Patients

Chronic Prostatitis With Chronic Pelvic Pain Syndrome

Chronic prostatitis/chronic pelvic pain syndrome (CPPS) is a common health problem among men and can cause severe quality of life. The pathophysiology of CPPS is still poorly understood and effective treatments are a challenging issue. This study aims to investigate the possible relationship between the presence of microorganisms in the prostatic fluid and symptom severity by presenting a retrospective analysis based on data from CPPS patients.

Does 3D Laparoscopy Improve Vaginal Cuff Suture Time?

Uterine FibroidsAbnormal Uterine Bleeding2 more

The objective aim is to evaluate whether the use of 3D laparoscopy facilitates the vaginal cuff closure of the vaginal cuff during a total laparoscopic hysterectomy among novice laparoscopists (PGY 2-4, Fellow). This is a randomized single blinded controlled trial comparing the difference in 2D vs. 3D in regards to vaginal cuff closure time stratified by residents and fellows. Patients will undergo a total laparoscopic hysterectomy and will be randomized to either 2D versus 3D.
