Endometriosis and Chronic Endometritis

EndometriosisPelvic Pain1 more

Pelvic endometriosis is a complex estrogen-dependent inflammatory syndrome of unknown etiology, altering the microenvironment of the peritoneal cavity and probably endometrial receptivity, and adversely affecting the physiological processes associated with fertilization. Literature data suggest that the distribution of immune system cells in the eutopic endometrium in the presence of endometriosis differs from the physiological state. The functioning of the immune system seems to be significantly modified not only in the foci of endometriosis, but also in the eutopic endometrium, affecting its physiological functions. Chronic endometritis (CE) is a potential factor impairing endometrial receptivity in the course of endometriosis. However, it is not known whether CE is one of the complications of endometriosis or perhaps an element of its pathogenesis. At the moment, endometrial diagnostics is not obligatory in the treatment of endometriosis in women of reproductive age, but it could potentially bring additional benefits and contribute to the improvement of obstetric results and increase the effectiveness of infertility treatment in women with endometriosis.

Early Psychological Intervention After Rape

Post Traumatic Stress DisorderRape Sexual Assault10 more

Rape is a common cause of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) among women, as around 30-50% will develop PTSD in the aftermath of rape. A modified protocol based on Prolonged Exposure Therapy (mPE), has been developed, consisting of three to five once or twice weekly 60 minutes sessions, and studies indicate that if implemented early after rape, mPE may prevent the development of PTSD. The aim of the study is to conduct a multi-site (4 Sexual assault care centers in Norway) randomized control trial (RCT) in which patients are recruited early after rape, and randomized to intervention (mPE) or treatment as usual (TAU).

Use of TENS Unit in the Management of Endometriosis Pain

EndometriosisPelvic Pain

The purpose of this study is see if Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulator (TENS) units help decrease endometriosis flare pain. TENS units have a 510K and are intended for relief of pain associated with sore or aching muscles of the lower back, arms, or legs due to strain from exercise or normal household and work activities. Participants will complete surveys, record pain, medication use and bleeding in an online diary during endometriosis flare ups for 3 months without using the TENS unit. After the first 3 month period of time, a TENS unit will be given to participants to wear and again, record pain, medication use and bleeding in the online diary during endometriosis flare ups for and additional 3 months while using the TENS unit.

Efficacy of the Photobiomodulation on the Pelvi-perineal Pain in Immediate Post-partum Situation...

Pelvic Pain

Photobiomodulation (PBM), evaluated in this study, will be delivered by a CE marked class IIa medical device (MILTA technology), composed of a panel that gathers 18 emitters. This is an innovative, alternative, soft technology, based on a cross action of LED light emission, a low intensity nanopulsed laser and a magnetic tunnel. The sessions last 10 minutes each, in total in the study two sessions will be delivered.

Impact of Thermotherapy During Childbirth on Postpartum Perineal Pain (PERISAFE)

Pelvic Pain

Perineal pain is common after vaginal birth. Thermotherapy might be effective to limit postpartum perineal pain, thanks to the effects of local heating or cooling application. This study aims to evaluate the impact of thermotherapy during childbirth on postpartum perineal pain.

Virtual Mindfulness for the Management of Endometriosis Pelvic Pain.

EndometriosisChronic Pain

Endometriosis is a gynecologic condition that can cause severe pelvic pain and significantly impair quality of life. Endometriosis symptoms cannot always be controlled by medical therapy or surgery alone, indicating a need for the development of other adjunct treatments. Mindfulness is a non-medical treatment modality that has been used in the management of chronic pelvic pain.1-3 There is preliminary data to suggest that in-person mindfulness-based workshops can also improve endometriosis-related pain, but further research is needed.4-8 There are significant barriers to utilizing in-person mindfulness resources, the largest being cost and local availability of the workshop. The objective of this pilot project is to assess the effectiveness of virtual mindfulness-based workshops to improve quality of life and pain in patients with endometriosis. The information from the workshops will then be used to create free online resources for patients to learn mindfulness-based approaches to manage endometriosis-related pelvic pain to reduce the financial and geographical barriers to access. Better access to mindfulness-based endometriosis management will enhance the treatment options for people suffering from this condition.

Transdermal Neuromodulation for Management of Chronic Pelvic Pain in Women: A Randomized Controlled...

Pelvic Pain Syndrome

Background: Chronic pelvic pain (CPP) significantly impacts quality of life in women. This study investigated the effects of transdermal neuromodulation in females with CPP. Trial Design: Parallel, randomized, single-blind, controlled trial The amies of the study will be to examine the effect of posterior tibial nerve stimulation of women with idiopathic chronic pelvic pain syndrome. Methods: Thirty females with chronic pelvic pain will be randomly allocated 1:1 to receive either transdermal neuromodulation of the posterior tibial nerve (intervention group) or advice to control posture (control group) for 4 weeks at the Outpatient Physical Therapy Clinic at Kafrelsheikh University in Egypt. Primary outcome was pain intensity measured by visual analog scale (VAS). Secondary outcomes were serum cortisol level and quality of life (QOL) score. Assessments will be done at baseline and after 4 weeks.

Analyzing the Brain Alterations of Acupuncture on Patients With CP/CPPS Evaluated by fMRI

Chronic Prostatitis With Chronic Pelvic Pain Syndrome

Chronic prostatitis/chronic pelvic pain syndrome (CP/CPPS) is one of the most common diseases in urology, but its pathogenesis remains unclear and the effective therapy lacks. As a kind of chronic pain which the patients suffered for more than 3 months, CP/CPPS could be alleviated by acupuncture. Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) and higher magnetic field strengths could enable scientists to investigate the brain accurately and non-invasively during every stage of chronic pain.To avoid placebo effect, sham acupuncture would be also enrolled.Herein, by the utilization of fMRI in resting-state, we investigated the influence on patients' brain alterations after the patients accepted the treatment of acupuncture.
