Inflammatory Status of Visceral Adipose Tissue in Obese Patients Related to Periodontitis Severity...

ParodontitisObesity1 more

The research aims to compare the inflammatory status of visceral adipose tissue from obese patients depending on the presence and severity of periodontitis, in order to establish a potential causal link between the severity of the bacterial contamination and insulin resistance.

Clinical and Microbiological Relationships Between Periodontitis and Abdominal Aorta Aneurism: an...

Abdominal Aorta AneurismPeriodontitis1 more

Aorta Abdominal aneurism (AAA) is a chronic degenerative disorder leading to the dilation and eventually to the rupture of the aortic wall. The pathology presents risk factors such as aging, atherosclerosis, male gender, cigarette smoking, pulmonary emphysema and high blood pressure. The vascular wall destruction is characterized by a remodeling of the extracellular matrix (ECM), the presence of an inflammatory infiltrate of macrophages and lymphocytes associated increase in production of MMPs. A similar destruction mechanisms is found in periodontitis a chronic inflammatory diseases characterized by gram-negative bacteria species that are able to degrade ECM of the tooth supporting tissues and leading finally to tooth loss .Moreover, relationships between periodontitis and cardiovascular disease have already been demonstrated. These associations are considered to be initiated by transient or prolonged bacteremia due to dissemination of oral bacteria or their products into the bloodstream . The periopathogens, more specifically Porphyromonas gingivalis (Pg), were observed in atherosclerosis and aneurysm specimens as well as in coronary heart disease and endocarditis The association between periodontitis and Abdominal Aortic Aneurysms (AAA) has not often been studied especially from a clinical aspect. The mechanisms that induce the initiation, the development or the recurrence and the rupture of AAA after a period of quiescence not well studied and are therefore still unknown. The aim of this clinical observational case controlled study is to search for a possible relationship between periodontal disease and rapid growth of AAA. Patients presenting stable or unstable AAA will be screened for the degree of periodontitis, for the type of oral microbiology and periodontopathogen markers present in the blood stream.

Alterations in Subgingival Microbiota and Hypoxia in Occlusal Trauma

Chronic PeriodontitisOcclusal Trauma

Present study suggests that excessive occlusal forces did not cause a significant change in hypoxia and vascular markers, however a slight alteration in subgingival microbiota was observed.

Chronic Periodontitis Microbiota in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus Patients

Chronic PeriodontitisType 2 Diabetes Mellitus

This study is a retrospective comparative evaluation of six main periodontal pathogens and total bacterial load in chronic periodontitis patients affected or not by type 2 diabetes mellitus by polymerase chain reaction analysis.

Interaction Between Immune Cells and Bacteria Associated With Periodontitis

Periodontal DiseasesPeriodontitis11 more

This study evaluates the interaction between host immune cells and bacteria associated with periodontitis. It comprises biological material from donors with and without periodontal disease. Specifically, we collect a spit and blood sample to conduct in vitro stimulations and measurements of selected parameters related to periodontitis to clarify obscure areas in the immunologic pathogenesis of this disease.

Gut Microbial Changes After Periodontal Treatment

PeriodontitisDysbiosis1 more

Periodontitis is a chronic inflammatory disease of the tooth supporting structures induced by a dysbiosis in the oral and subgingival microenvironment of susceptible patients. The long-term swallowing of high doses of periodontal pathogenic microorganisms could induce a dysbiosis of the intestinal microbiota, favouring the establishment of an 'inflamed' microbiome in terms of composition and/or function. The present project is aimed at a better understanding of the etiopathogenetic correlation between periodontitis and intestinal dysbiosis, and aims to explore the hypothesis that non-surgical periodontal treatment may reduce bacterial alpha diversity in stool samples. Fifty patients affected by stage III-IV periodontitis will be recruited, and treated by means of full-mouth scaling and root planing. Salivary and stool samples, together with a complete periodontal charting and a food diary will be collected and compared at baseline and 3 months after treatment. Age, gender and BMI-matched healthy individuals will be recruited as controls.

Diagnosis of Periodontal Disease Using Genetic Marker in Saliva

Chronic Periodontitis

The purpose of the present study is to identify the novel periodontal disease biomarkers using differentially expressed microRNA in the saliva. The severity of chronic periodontal diseases and the time of pre- and post-treatment are major classification criteria. The obtained data will secure the foundation for the development of a new non-invasive diagnostic methods for early diagnosis & prognosis prediction of periodontal disease.

Interleukin-1 Receptor Antagonist Gene Polymorphism and Adverse Pregnancy Outcome in Turkish Women...

Periodontitis

The investigators hypothesized that the IL-1A (+4895), IL-1B (+3954), and IL-1RN gene polymorphisms may be associated with PLBW. Smoking has been well documented by numerous studies as a major environmental risk factor for periodontitis and adverse pregnancy outcomes. Therefore, the investigators only selected non-smoking individuals in this study as the smoking-related risk could obscure the polymorphism-related increase in risk for periodontitis and adverse pregnancy outcomes. This study aimed to determine the association between IL-1A (+4895), IL-1B (+3954), and IL-1RN polymorphisms with adverse pregnancy outcomes and periodontitis in a non-smoking Turkish population.

Chromogranin-A-Derived Peptides and Periodontitis in Diabetic Patients

Periodontitis and Diabetitis

Periodontitis is a chronic disease of the supporting tissue of the teeth, characterized by bleeding and inflamed gingival, resorption of alveolar bone. This disease has a significant impact of the quality of life as the teeth become progressively mobile and may fall out spontaneously if no treatment is provided. Periodontal disease has been cited as the sixth complication of diabetes mellitus.Chromogranins / secretogranins are a family of proteins present in nervous endocrine and immune cells, released with catecholamines during stress situations. Chromogranin A (CGA) is the major member of this family. The aim of this study is to determine the level of CGA and its derived peptides in the gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) of health or diabetic patients with and without periodontitis. Then, we want to determine the antimicrobial activity of these peptides.
