Association Between Apical Periodontitis and Atherosclerotic Cardiovascular Diseases

Apical PeriodontitisAtherosclerotic Cardiovascular Disease

The aim of the study is to evaluate the association between apical periodontitis (AP) and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) by assessing the multiplicative effect of AP on secondary outcomes of ASCVD. Sixty-two subjects will be enrolled from the Unit of Endodontics and Restorative dentistry and allocated into 2 distinct groups depending on the presence or absence of periapical lesions. Group 1 will be composed of 31 patients with radiographic signs of AP. On the contrary, another 31 healthy individual (free from clinical and radiographic evidence of AP) meeting the inclusion and exclusion criteria were included as controls (group 2) A complete dental examination will performed on each patient in both groups. All the patients will be subjected to a cardiovascular examination to assess carotid intima-media thickness (cIMT), presence of abdominal aortic aneurysm, presence of peripheral pulses through echo-color-doppler.

Impact of Subgingival Instrumentation on Masticatory Performance and Psychological Distress

Periodontitis

Patients of Stage III and Stage IV Periodontitis will be assessed for masticatory dysfunction and psychological distress. Subgingival Instrumentation will be done for treating periodontitis. Patients will be re-evaluated after 2 and 3 months in order to assess any change in masticatory dysfunction and psychological distress by improved periodontal health.

Revitalization of Traumatized Immature Permanent Teeth

Apical PeriodontitisTrauma

This study aims to assess the hypothesis that revitalization of teeth without (a)symptomatic apical periodontitis have a more favourable outcome in terms of further root development, periapical bone healing, maintaining/regaining pulp sensitivity and survival, than teeth with (a)symptomatic apical periodontitis.

Minimally-invasive Non-surgical Treatment in Teeth With Unfavourable Prognosis

Periodontitis

This is a pilot prospective cohort study to assess the efficacy of minimally-invasive non-surgical periodontal therapy (MINST) for the treatment of teeth with unfavourable periodontal prognosis. 20 patients who have teeth with unfavourable periodontal prognosis (due to bone loss to the apex or furcation involvement grade II C) will receive minimally-invasive non-surgical treatment (MINST) and will be reassessed up to 12 months after treatment.

Self-detection and Professional Screening Strategies for Early Detection of Periodontal Disease...

PeriodontitisDiagnosis1 more

The majority of the burden of periodontal diseases in the population remain undetected. Self-detection and confirmation with simple, non-clinical tests may improve early case detection and access to the needed level of care. A recently conducted study has indicated that self-reported signs and symptoms through questionnaires and gingival bleeding on brushing (GBoB), in particular, are potentially useful approaches to detect gingival inflammation and other signs of periodontal health and disease. A parallel study evaluated the accuracy of the presence of elevated levels of activated matrix metalloproteinase-8 (MMP-8). A strategy combining specific questions, subject demographics, GBoB and aMMP-8 has shown promise for screening and diagnosis of periodontal health and disease. Validation of a diagnostic approach requires assessment in a first population (development group) and confirmation in an independent one.

Human Dental Pulp Mesenchymal Stem Cells for the Treatment of Chronic Periodontitis Patients

Periodontitis

The primary objective:To evaluate the efficacy of different administration protocols of human dental pulp mesenchymal stem cells for the treatment of chronic periodontitis patients. The secondary objective:To evaluate the safety of different administration protocols of human dental pulp mesenchymal stem cells for the treatment of chronic periodontitis patients. The exploratory objective:To investigate the effects of human dental pulp mesenchymal stem cells on biomarkers in gingival crevicular fluid in chronic periodontitis patients.

Comparing Different Timings for Periodontal Re-evaluation After Non-surgical Periodontal Therapy...

PeriodontitisPeriodontal Pocket

This is a prospective cohort study that aims to describe the difference in terms of percentage of closed pockets (PPD <5 mm and no BOP) when performing the periodontal re-evaluation at 3-4, 6-8 and 12 months. Fifty-two, ≥18-year old, otherwise healthy, periodontitis patients will be recruited at Centro di Odontoiatria, Università di Parma.

Comparison of Two Oral Hygiene Routines on the Glycemic Control for Type 2 Diabetes Patients With...

Periodontal DiseasesDiabetes Mellitus

This study aims to compare two common oral hygiene routines on the improvement of glycemic control and oral health parameters in moderate to severe periodontitis patients with uncontrolled type 2 diabetes (T2DM). It is currently unclear if one oral hygiene routine is more effective than the other. The two routines being compared are: Group 1: Scaling and root planing + oral hygiene routine with use of an electric toothbrush (Sonicare Diamond Clean Smart ®) along with its mobile app Group 2: Scaling and root planing + oral hygiene routine with use of manual toothbrush The specific aims of the study are: Aim 1: To assess the impact of Sonicare Diamond Clean Smart ® use on the glycemic control as an adjunct to scaling and root planing and oral hygiene instructions for T2DM patients with moderate to severe periodontitis patients. Aim 2: To assess oral health parameters which include clinical measurements and immune-inflammatory cytokines.

BMP-2 and ALP Levels Following Laser Therapy With Scaling and Root Planing in Periodontitis- RCT....

PeriodontitisLaser

Patients with periodontitis will be treated by either SRP only or SRP in combination with laser. Samples from GCF will be collected immediately after treatment and at 3 months follow-up time. Levels of BMP-2 and ALP will be assessed at these time points. Statistical analysis to compare the results will be performed.
