Impact of Bruxism in the Outcome of Subgingival Instrumentation for the Management of Stage 2 and...
PeriodontitisBruxismBruxism is a multifaceted phenomenon that has been associated with several factors mediated by the central nervous system3. Bruxism is an umbrella term grouping different motor phenomenon. 'Bruxism is a repetitive jaw-muscle activity characterized by clenching or grinding of the teeth and/or by bracing or thrusting of the mandible. Bruxism has two distinct circadian manifestations: it can occur during sleep (indicated as sleep bruxism) or during wakefulness (indicated as awake bruxism5. Sleep bruxism is considered to be a putative exacerbating factor, rather than a causative factor of periodontal disease and night-guards have been used as a counter measure. Since the periodontium in sleep bruxism patients suffers from excessive occlusal force for long periods of time during sleep, the function of the periodontium in such patients may differ from that in patients without sleep bruxism. Awake bruxism is defined as masticatory muscle activity during wakefulness that is characterized by repetitive or sustained tooth contact and by bracing or thrusting of the mandible.Given the potential impact of abnormal forces on the periodontium, understanding the relationship between bruxism and periodontal disease is crucial for the prevention and management of these conditions. This study aims to explore the mechanisms by which bruxism affects the periodontium and to assess the impact of bruxism in the outcome of subgingival instrumentation for the management of Stage 2 and Stage 3 periodontitis.
Outcomes of Periodontal Regenerative Treatment
PeriodontitisIntrabony Periodontal Defect1 moreThe aim of this recall study is to evaluate outcomes of surgical regenerative treatment of periodontal defects in a cohort of patient previously treated for gum disease at the Royal London Hospital as part of their periodontal care.
Oral Health Policy for Patients With Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus in Chile: A Microsimulation Model...
Type 2 Diabetes MellitusPeriodontitis2 moreThe goal of this study is to evaluate the cost-effectiveness of the current proposal and different decision-making scenarios of periodontal care coverage increases for patients with T2DM in Chile. The main objective of the clinical section of this study (effectiveness) aims to determine the effectiveness of periodontal care in patients with T2DM under follow-up in the Cardiovascular Health Program (Programa de Salud Cardiovascular, PSCV) of the in the CEMO Villa Sur of Pedro Aguirre Cerda and the CESFAM Antonio Varas of Puerto Montt. A highly matched control group is proposed using Propensity Score Matching of PSCV patients with T2DM who have not received periodontal care. This would allow a better comparison of the individuals who will actually be treated against a counterfactual against of those with similar characteristics who did not receive periodontal intervention during the follow-up period of this first stage.
Intraoral Scanners as a Motivation Method for Oral Hygiene Instruction
PeriodontitisGingivitisPeriodontal diseases are highly prevalent inflammatory diseases. These diseases are mostly due to the development and the maturation of bacterial plaque which lead to local inflammation. Individuals can develop severe attachment loss which could lead to dental loss. To prevent them, individual plaque removal procedures self-performed by the patient by tooth brushing or interdental brushes or made by professional care (scaling), are known to improve periodontal health, and thus to prevent periodontal diseases. Moreover, oral hygiene is a major factor to increase increasing the outcomes when treatments are needed. However, patients' compliance in oral health program is one of the major limits to periodontal therapeutics. In this study, the investigators evaluate the effectiveness of 3D intra-oral camera compared with conventional oral hygiene instructions, to improve oral health motivation.
Effects of Non-surgical Periodontal Therapy on Severe Periodontitis and Hyperlipidemia
Periodontitis Chronic Generalized SevereHyperlipidemia4 moreThis study was a single-center, non-randomized, parallel-group design clinical trial, and each group was assigned a 1:1 ratio with or without hyperlipidemia. Both groups underwent periodontal non-surgical treatment, and blood and gingival crevicular fluid were collected before surgery, 1 month and 3 months after surgery for the detection of MCP-1, IL-8, oxLDL, TNF-α, TG, LDL-C, HDL-C.
Prevalence of Periodontitis Based Upon Principles Presented by the 2017 Classification: A Hospital-based...
PeriodontitisThe study aims at determining the Prevalence Of Periodontitis based upon principles presented by the 2017 Classification: A Hospital-Based Cross-Sectional Study on A Sample of Young Egyptian Dental Patients
Incidence of Peri-implant Mucositis in Patients With Treated Periodontitis
Peri-implant Mucositisthe objective of this study is to determine the incidence of peri-implant mucositis in patients with treated periodontitis and enrolled in periodontal maintenance and to evaluate the associated risk indicators. An analytical prospective observational study will be carried out, with an initial follow-up of 12 months.
Periodontitis and Periodontal Bacteria in Dementia
Alzheimer DiseaseDementia1 moreThe study is designed to inquire whether the presence of periodontitis and different periodontopathogenic bacterial strains are associated with dementia diagnosis and with the degree of cognitive impairment in participants evaluated at a Memory clinic (Minnesmottagning). Specifically, by analyzing cerebrospinal fluid, the investigators intend to clarify whether the alleged mechanisms for Porphyromonas gingivalis in the aetiology of Alzheimer disease (AD) are supported in a Swedish population and whether they are specific for Porphyromonas gingivalis (as compared to other periodontopathogenic bacteria) and Alzheimer type dementia (as compared to other etiological dementia types), respectively.
Expression of Inflammasomes in Peri-implantitis and Periodontitis
PeriodontitisPeri-Implantitis1 moreThis is a laboratory-based study and it aims to evaluate the expression of inflammasomes in healthy gingiva and in the presence of peri-implantitis and periodontitis
Quality of Life of Periodontitis Patients Visiting Supportive Periodontal Therapy
Quality of LifePeriodontal DiseasesThe present prospective study aims to assess the QoL of periodontitis patients during supportive treatment and to relate it to periodontal health (clinical and radiographic data) and treatment stability. Follow-ups after the first cross-sectional assessment are planned after approximately 2.5, 5, 7.5, and 10 years.
