The Effect of Miswak Chewing Sticks on the Oral Helicobacter Pylori Infection
CariesPeriodontitisTo elucidate the relationship of chewing miswak sticks on the H. Pylori infection in the oral cavity.The study would be conducted at the Faculty of Dentistry, Kuwait University. Oral plaque samples would be obtained from those patients who are willing to participate. As a part of the initial screening the plaque samples would be collected and sent for screening of oral microbiota to the Microbiology Department of Faculty of Dentistry, Kuwait University. Here, the basic microbial culturing (rapid urease test) would be performed for detecting the presence of oral H.Pylori. Volunteers who are tested positive for H. Pylori infection through the rapid urease test would be invited to participate in the study.

Chronic Periodontitis (CP) Subjects.Aim: To evaluate effect of non- surgical periodontal therapy on liver function in systemically healthy chronic periodontitis (CP) subjects. Materials and methods: The study is non surgical interventional trial, includes 50 CP subjects in the age group of 35- 60 years selected from the OPD (Out Patient Department) of department of periodontology Tatyasaheb Kore Dental College and Research center (TKDC and RC), Kolhapur. CP subjects were equally divided into test group and control group. Liver function test- aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alanine aminotransferase (ALT) were checked at baseline and at 1 month after treatment. Clinical examination includes plaque index, gingival index, sulcus bleeding index, probing depth, clinical attachment loss.

Changes of GCF Levels of RANKL and Osteoprotegerin in Postmenopausal Osteoporosis
Chronic PeriodontitisThe investigators evaluated the effect of initial periodontal treatment on clinical findings and receptor activator of Nuclear Factor-kappa B ligand (RANKL) and osteoprotegerin (OPG) in gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) of patients with osteoporosis under bisphosphonate therapy within 12 months' follow-up. Clinical recordings and GCF were obtained from postmenopausal women; with chronic periodontitis and osteoporosis (Group A, n=13), with chronic periodontitis and no osteoporosis (Group B, n=12), without chronic periodontitis and osteoporosis (Group C, n=12), systemically and periodontally healthy controls (Group D, n=10) at the baseline. Recordings were repeated at the 1st, 6th and 12th months in Group A, B and C. RANKL and OPG values were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays.

Periodontitis and Inflammation: Study on Biological Samples
PeriodontitisPeriodontitis is a major public health problem because it is widespread in the adult population. It leads to the irreversible destruction of the anchoring tissues of the teeth, and represents a modifiable risk factor for systemic inflammatory pathologies. This chronic inflammatory disease, which is associated with oral dysbiosis involving Porphyromonas gingivalis, is triggered by a permissive immune response. It is preceded by a reversible clinical phase, during which there is no bone resorption process: gingivitis. The understanding of the key mechanisms involved in the evolution from gingivitis to periodontitis, which will allow to early identify patient at risk of periodontitis, remain unclear at this time. Neutrophils are the main cells of inflammation present within the periodontal pockets. The excess of certain neutrophils or the alteration of their functions is associated with the triggering of periodontitis, whereas their activity, finely orchestrated, would be a key to periodontal homeostasis. It is likely that some periodontal bacteria, including P. gingivalis, but also products of matrix catabolism could deregulate the physiological functions of neutrophils towards pro-inflammatory and catabolic profiles. Moreover, to date, the differentiation and role of neutrophil subsets in periodontal homeostasis as well as in gingivitis and its evolution into periodontitis remain poorly studied. The investigators hypothesize that various subsets of neutrophils may play different roles during the development of periodontitis (evolution of gingivitis to periodontitis). The primary objective is to characterize neutrophil subtypes associated with periodontal destruction during periodontitis. Secondary objectives are : Identify specific interactions of tissue-activated neutrophils with the matrix microenvironment during periodontitis Identify specific interactions of tissue or oral (salivary) activated neutrophils with the oral microbiota during periodontitis Identify specific oral (salivary) neutrophil subtypes in periodontal health, gingivitis and periodontitis Evaluate the function, including pro-osteoclastogenic function, of oral neutrophils compared to blood neutrophils stimulated by infection

Periodontal Profile of Hypogonadic Men
PeriodontitisHypogonadism1 moreThe aim of this study is to assess if hypogonadic men with periodontitis benefit from testosterone replacement therapy before being submitted to periodontal treatment. Fifty hypogonadic men (Total Testosterone <200ng/dL) will be recruited from the Clinics Hospital at Federal University of Paraná and subjected to periodontal evaluation by a trained and calibrated researcher. The subjects presenting with periodontitis (assessed by clinical parameters) will be randomly allocated to "testosterone replacement therapy" (TRT) group or "placebo" for 3 months. After that time, all patients will receive nonsurgical periodontal treatment, which will be reassessed after 45 days. Clinical parameters (such as probing depth, gingival and plaque index, clinical attachment loss, bleeding on probing), sub gingival plaque and gingival crevicular fluid will be collected at baseline, just before therapy and 45 days after therapy.

PeriodontitisSaliva1 moreObjective: The main aim of this cross-sectional clinical study is to evaluate the predictive ability of a panel of salivary biomarkers in determining periodontal health status. Material and methods: In this observational, cross-sectional study patients attending consecutively to the Periodontal Postgraduate Clinic at the University Complutense of Madrid. The participants will be categorized into different periodontal health status groups based on the 2018 classification of periodontal diseases, including periodontally healthy, gingivitis, treated periodontitis (stable/unstable), and various stages of periodontitis. During the screening visit, participants will undergo a comprehensive medical examination to gather relevant health information, including age, gender, weight, height, waist circumference, and drug, alcohol, and smoking history. Additionally, clinical assessments, saliva samples and microbiological parameters will be recorded. A convenience sample of 100 subjects will be recruited for this pilot study with the objective to generate data for the multivariate predictive analysis. Data analyses: Descriptive statistics will be used to report the clinical variables and patients will be grouped according to the pre-established diagnostic categories (periodontally healthy, gingivitis, treated periodontitis patient. In order to determine the possible statistical relationship with the medical, biochemical and microbiological variables assessed, a crude bivariate analysis will first be performed by applying a mean comparison test for quantitative variables (ANOVA) and a proportion comparison test for categorical variables (Chi-square). Subsequently, those variables identified as relevant in the crude analyses will be included as confounding and/or interaction factors in a binary logistic regression model, considering the presence of periodontitis as a response variable, in order to obtain crude and adjusted OR values, together with their corresponding 95% CIs. Based on the results obtained in the biomarker analysis, a relevant statistical analysis will be performed, taking into account all the variables collected in the study
