Evaluation of Saliva IL-6 Levels and Periodontitis

Periodontal Diseases

The aim of this study was to analyze the association between salivary IL-6 levels in patients with periodontitis. Furthermore, the objective was to determine if the periodontitis influenced salivary IL-6 levels

GCF IL-17 Levels and Oxidative Status of Smoking and Non-smoking Individuals With Periodontitis...

Chronic PeriodontitisSmoking1 more

This study was performed to evaluate the effects of both periodontal treatment and smoking on the gingival crevicular fluid(GCF) levels of interleukin (IL)-17A, IL-17E, Total oxidative stress(TOS) and total antioxidant capasity(TAOC) in smoking and non-smoking patients with severe chronic periodontitis. Systemically healthy 15 smoker,15 non-smoker with chronic periodontitis were attended for the study. Periodontal status were determined by recording periodontal clinical measurements. GCF samples were collected at the baseline, at the end of initial periodontal treatment and 4 weeks after periodontal flap surgery. The data were tested statistically by the Student t and paired sample t tests.

GCF Annexin-A1, Carbonic Anhydrase-1, and Elongation Factor-1 Gamma Levels in Periodontitis

PeriodontitisPeriodontal Inflammation

The study aimed to investigate gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) levels of possible novel biomarkers Annexin-A1 (ANX A1), Carbonic anhydrase- 1 (CA I), and Elongation Factor-1 Gamma (EF1-Ɣ) in health along with different periodontal diseases. In total, 80 systemically healthy individuals were included in this study; 20 with periodontitis stage 3 grade B , 20 with periodontitis stage 3 grade C (P-Stage III/C), 19 with gingivitis, and 21 with clinically healthy periodontium. Probing depth, clinical attachment level, plaque index, and papillary bleeding index were recorded. GCF ANX A1, CA I and EF1-Ɣ levels were analyzed by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Receiver operating characteristics curve was used for estimating the under the curve.

Acute Coronary SyndromePeriodontitis

Periodontitis may contribute to vascular damage, resulting in the destabilization of atherosclerotic plaque leading to acute coronary syndrome (ACS). In this study, we explored the effect of non-surgical periodontal treatment (NSPT) on cardiovascular blood biomarkers and gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) Neutrophil Elastase (NE) and α1-proteinase inhibitor (alpha-1PI) levels in periodontitis (P) participants with and without ACS. Medical and dental examinations were performed to diagnose ACS and periodontitis, respectively. Seventeen patients with diagnosis ACS and periodontitis were included in this study, as a test group (Group ACS). Twenty-six, age and sex-matched control patients with periodontitis (Group P) were otherwise systemically healthy. Both groups received NSPT. Plasma levels of cholesterol, triglyceride, high-density lipoprotein (HDL), low-density lipoprotein (LDL), C-reactive protein (CRP), GCF NE activity, and GCF α1-PI levels were measured baseline, at1st and 3rd months after NSPT.

Apoptosis Markers in Aggressive Periodontitis

Molar-incisor Pattern Grade C Periodontitis ( Localized Aggressive Periodontitis)Generalized Grade C Periodontitis (Generalized Aggressive Periodontitis)

The aim of the present trial is to assess the gingival crevicular fluid level of caspase-3 and apoptosis inducing factor (AIF) in Generalized versus Molar-incisor grade C periodontitis. The present study will be carried out on patients selected from those attending on the outpatient clinics of Department of Oral Medicine, Periodontology, Oral Diagnosis and Dental Radiology, Faculty of Dental Medicine, Al-Azhar University, Assiut.

Masticatory Function in the Differential Diagnosis of Stage IV Periodontitis

Periodontitis

This is a pilot diagnostic accuracy study to assess the ability to discriminate in a screening context Stage IV periodontitis from other stages of periodontitis. The index test is the assessment of masticatory dysfunction performed with a questionnaire and a chewing gum test. The reference standard is a full periodontal and functional assessment performed by a trained and calibrated specialist.

I-Smads in Periodontitis

PeriodontitisTreatment Adherence

Recently, it has been stated that Smads play an active role in all conditions where transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-β) is involved, including periodontal inflammation. This study aimed to examine the levels of TGF-β and inhibitor Smads in saliva and gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) in patients with Stage 3 Grade B periodontitis before and after non-surgical periodontal treatment. Twenty (20) stage 3 grade B periodontitis and 20 periodontally healthy individuals were included in the study. Clinical periodontal measurements were recorded; periodontitis patients received non-surgical periodontal treatment, and GCF and saliva samples were obtained at baseline and one month after treatment. TGF-β, Smad6, and Smad7 were determined by ELISA.

Role of NLRP3 in Periodontitis and Diabetes

Metabolic DiseasePeriodontal Diseases

NLRP3 plays a key role in endothelial function and may be a link for the known interaction of periodontitis and diabetes. The investigators compared the impact of gingival health, periodontitis (CP), diabetes or of both diseases (CP +diabetes) on saliva and serum NLRP3levels.

Relationship Between Chronic Periodontitis and Vitamin D and Calcium in Men

Chronic Periodontitis

Objective: The objective was to evaluate whether serum vitamin D and calcium concentrations are associated with chronic periodontitis in Syrian men Methods: This study designed as "Matched Case-Control Study".200 males will be enrolled in this study and will be divided into two groups. First group consist of 100 patients suffering from chronic periodontitis and no systemic diseases. Second group consist of 100 healthy volunteers. Serum vitamin D and calcium concentrations will be tested. Periodontal indexes include probing depth (PD), clinical attachment level (CAL), and bleeding on probing (BOP) will be taken. Data will be collected and analyzed.

The Occurrence of Periopathogens in Betel-Nut Chewers and the Effects of Areca-Nut on Periopathogens...

Periodontitis

Periodontal disease is considered to be an infection disease. Recent evidence supported the role of smoking as a potent risk factor for the development of periodontal disease. However, the effect of another oral habit, betel quid chewing on periodontal tissues has not been well determined. The purpose of the present study is to analysis the role of bacteria on the periodontium in the betel quid chewers. Plaque samples will be collected from betel quid chewers and the occurrence of periodotopathogens will be analyzed Since most chewers also smokers, plaque samples from age matched smokers but not betel chewers and non-smokers will analysis for comparison. An in vitro test is also performed to evaluate whether the extract has a direct inhibitory effect on common periodontal pathogens, such as Porphyromoans gingivalis, Bacteroides forsythus, Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans.
