Levels of High-Sensitivity C-Reactive Protein in Heart Transplant Patients

Heart Transplant FailurePeriodontitis1 more

Objectives: The outcomes of heart transplantation are very favorable but inflammation still plays a critical role in deterioration of chronic transplants. Periodontal diseases are not only limited to supporting structures of the teeth, they also cause systemic inflammation. Based on the importance of inflammation in heart transplant recipients and the association between periodontal disease and systemic inflammation, this study explored whether periodontitis may be a modifier of serum high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (HsCRP) in heart transplant patients.

Quantification of Micro-RNA 146-a in Chronic Periodontitis and Coronary Heart Disease Subjects

Periodontal DiseasesCoronary Disease

The expression and quantification of Micro-RNA 146-a, was analyzed in the subgingival plaque samples of generalized chronic periodontitis patients with and without coronary heart disease. The demographic variables and periodontal parameters were assessed and correlated with expression of micro-RNA 146-a. The quantification of levels of micro-RNA 146-a was done using Real time Polymerase chain reaction. ( RT-PCR)

Estimation of Sialic Acid and IL10 Levels in Stage 1 and 2 Periodontitis Patients

Periodontal Disease

Sialic acid (SA) is the generic term given to a family of acetylated derivatives of neuraminic acid. SA is a 9 carbon monosaccharide. An important function of host SA is to regulate innate immunity. SA is present in several acute phase proteins which are known to be associated with periodontitis. There exists a need for a biomarker, for early detection of disease evolution and more robust therapy efficacy measurements. Till date, there is very little data regarding simultaneous estimation and comparison of total SA content in saliva. IL-10, an anti-inflammatory cytokine, regulates the synthesis of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as IL-1, -2, -6 and stimulates protective antibody production. IL-10 is expressed in both healthy and diseased human periodontal tissues and is reported to be reduced in patients infected with Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans. The present study was therefore undertaken with an aim, to not only assess the levels of TSA(Total sialic acid levels),but also of IL 10 levels in saliva from stage 1(mild) to stage 2(moderate) periodontitis patients

Effects of Smoking on Oral Tissue Samples

HistopathologyPeriodontitis2 more

Smoking negatively affects the prognosis of periodontal disease by impairing tissue healing. While micronucleus is the most popular parameter for demonstrating DNA damage, inflammatory cell and vascular densities are the most evaluated parameters for determining histopathologic changes in the periodontium. This cross-sectional study aimed to evaluate the effects of heavy cigarette smoking and generalized periodontitis on local genotoxic damage to exfoliated oral epithelial cells as well as histopathologic damage to the periodontium. The investigators hypothesized that the genotoxic and histopathologic damage would be increased in smokers with generalized periodontitis.

To Study the Healing Effect of 0.25% Lemongrass Oil Mouthwash on Chronic Periodontitis Patients....

Chronic Periodontitis

Periodontitis is the inflammation of the tissues supporting the teeth. Lemongrass (Cymbopogon Citratus) oil mouthwash can be used with subgingival scaling in the treatment of periodontal diseases. Transforming growth factor beta (TGF-β) is a multifunctional cytokine belonging to transforming growth factor superfamily and its elevated levels are detectable in inflammatory and healing process The present project will be conducted to evaluate the expression of TGF-β levels in chronic periodontitis patients after ultrasonic scaling and using 0.25% lemongrass oil mouthwash. TGF-β is a salivary marker of periodontitis.

Investigation of Asprosin a Novel Adipokine in Periodontitis

PeriodontitisObesity1 more

Asprosin, a recently discovered glucogenic adipokine, is mainly synthesized by white adipose tissue and released during fasting. Appetite, glucose metabolism, insulin resistance, cell apoptosis, etc. asprosin is associated with diseases such as diabetes, obesity, polycystic ovary syndrome, and cardiovascular diseases. Periodontal tissue may act as a source of endocrine-like inflammatory mediators (such as TNF-α, IL-6 and IL-1) that are important in periodontal inflammation and can affect glucose and lipid metabolism. Production of TNF-α and IL-6 in adipose tissues strengthens the relationship between obesity, T2DM and periodontitis.we postulated that asprosin may be candidate for explaining the triangular relationship among obesity, T2DM, and periodontal disease.

Effect of Smoking on Periapical Healing After NSRCT

Apical Periodontitis

Goal of this prospective observational study is determine effect of smoking on periapical healing after NSRCT. Population includes systemically healthy smokers with radiographic evidence of apical periodontitis will be recruited and compared with same type of population of non smokers after non surgical root canal treatment intervention in both the groups. Outcome will be assessed using periapical index scoring system at 6 and 12 months follow up period

Cathelicidin LL-37 Levels in the GCF and the Saliva of Smokers and Non-smokers With Stage III,IV...

Smoking Reduction

Periodontitis is considered an inflammatory disease that results in the disruption of oral hemeostasis and is associated with the presence of dental plaque influenced by genetic and environmental factors. It is well-establised that smokers have an increased severity of periodontal disease,a higher prevalance of tooth loss and total edentulism.

Rheumatoid Arthritis and Treatment of Periodontitis: a Randomized Clinical Trial.

PeriodontitisArthritis1 more

Periodontitis is an infectious disease defined by bacteria-mediated inflammation of the supporting tissues of the teeth that if left untreated may ultimately lead to the destruction of the attachment apparatus, culminating in tooth loss. Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic destructive inflammatory disease characterized by autoantibodies and the accumulation and persistence of an inflammatory infiltrate in the synovial membrane that leads to synovitis and the destruction of the joint architecture. The objective of this study was to evaluate the possible beneficial additional value of non-surgical periodontal therapy on systemic markers of inflammation and clinical and serological parameters of rheumatoid arthritis.
