Epigenetic Changes in Psychotherapy of Adolescents With Borderline Personality Pathology
Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD)The link between epigenetic changes as an effect of psychotherapy has been investigated recently. Genes investigated in these studies were brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), NR3C1, FKBP51, MAOA and GLUT1. Change in methylation of these genes could be a biomolecular mechanism of psychotherapy induced changes. This study project aims at providing evidence for a biological mechanism of personality disorder interventions in adolescence by investigating the link between epigenetic changes as an effect of psychotherapy. It investigates the correlation between changes in the methylation of the FKBP5 gene and psychotherapy induced changes in symptoms and functioning.
Pilot the Use of VA Make the Connection Campaign to Facilitate Help Seeking Among Vulnerable Veterans...
Mental Health Issue (E.G.Depression4 moreThis pilot study seeks to determine if exposure to the Make the Connection campaign messages developed by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is associated with changes in mental-health related outcomes, specifically: (1) psychosocial determinants that drive help seeking behaviors (knowledge, attitudes and intentions); and (2) perceived barriers to seeking care. Participants are randomly assigned to message exposure or control (no exposure) conditions. Data from this project will inform mental health education and outreach efforts targeted towards Veterans experiencing mental health concerns.
Connectivity and Social Cognition in Adolescent Girls With Borderline Personality Disorder, a Pilot...
Adolescent BehaviorBorderline Personality DisorderThe disruption of social cognition associated with borderline personality disorder (BPD), and more specifically categorization of facial emotions, remains largely under-studied, despite the high frequency of this pathology in the clinical population. The first results differ from the observations made in adults and this confirms the relevance of studying this theme specifically in adolescence. On the cognitive level, there is a disturbance of the detection and the categorization of the facial emotions in the TPL. The characteristics of this disturbance and its possible association with an attack on the connectivity of the brain remain unknown in adolescence. No functional imaging studies are published in adolescent TPL. This pilot bimodal functional imaging study EEG-NIRS aims to collect preliminary and feasibility data to support a response to upcoming PHRC competitions and eventually offer a science thesis opportunity.
Evaluation of Excellence in Italy's Residence for Execution of Security Measure
Mental DisorderRecovery6 moreThe model of care for forensic psychiatry in Italy was changed by law (Law 81/2014) so that the six legacy secure forensic hospitals (Judicial Psychiatric Hospitals, OPG) were closed and new secure community residences for the execution of security measures (REMS) were opened in each of the 20 regions of Italy. This transition was in place by 2015. This observational study evaluates the health gains for patients both previously in OPGs and those admitted first to REMS. Health gains assessed include recovery measured by symptoms, function, need for therapeutic security and recovery of legal autonomy.
Nursing Students' Personality Traits and Competence in Workplace Violence Management
Exposure to Violent EventNursing Student3 moreAim: The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between nursing students' personality traits and competence in workplace violence management. Background: Violence against nursing students is a growing concern in nursing education, clinical practice, and professional development and needs to be managed. Design: A cross-sectional study. Methods: This study was conducted with 321 nursing students in the summer of 2022.

Borderline Personality DisorderPsychotherapy1 moreParticipants with Borderline pathology (≥ 3 DSM-IV-criteria) receiving an inpatient Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) program completed a quality assurance questionnaire set assessing demographic information and pretreatment psychopathology during the days of their inpatient stay. Beyond that, changes of therapists were documented.

INCLUDE: Using Lived Experience to Improve Mental Health Diagnosis v1
Mental Health Issue (E.G.Depression6 moreThe focus of this study is not about what it is like to have a mental disorder, but instead the diagnostic experience. Some people find diagnoses helpful, but some find them upsetting and harmful. Research is therefore needed to improve diagnostic processes. It has been suggested that patient experiences and outcomes may be affected by the diagnostic tools used, including diagnostic criteria, labels and language. In the NHS, the tool used by doctors to help diagnose people is a guidebook called the International Classification of Diseases (ICD). A new version of this guide is due to be released in 2018. This project will use focus groups to ask people who use mental health services and diagnosing doctors in those services what they think about the labels and language in the new guide. The investigators can then suggest changes before the guide is published. The investigators hope that this research will improve mental health diagnosis. The research will take place in Norfolk and Suffolk and span eight months.
Pergolide for Cognitive Symptoms in Schizotypal Personality Disorder
Schizotypal Personality DisorderOther Personality DisordersHypothesis: Schizotypal personality disorder patients will show cognitive improvements in 1) working memory 2) learning and memory 3) sustained attention 4) enhanced performance on the AX-CPT, N-back and Eriksen during pergolide treatment. There will be a significant diagnosis by drug administration of 0.3 mg of oral pergolide interaction for performance on the cognitive tasks, with the schizotypal personality disorder group demonstrating significantly improved peformance compared to the other personality disorder group after pergolide compared with placebo. Design: Randomized, double-blind, crossover study of pergolide vs. placebo. Half of subjects receive pergolide for eight weeks; half of subjects receive placebo for four weeks followed by pergolide for four weeks.
The Role of Group Identity on the Community Integration of People With Severe Mental Disorder
Bipolar DisorderPersonality Disorders1 moreThis study analyzes which variables enhance or hinder community integration among people with severe mental disorder. Participants will complete a questionnaire to test our hypotheses: Hypothesis 1: group identification predicts less self-dehumanization and self-stigma, and more empowerment, these in turn predict more community integration. Hypothesis 2: the relationship between group identification and self-dehumanization and self-stigma is moderated by group value. Hypothesis 3: when group identification is low, group identification predicts higher community integration, but this relationship is mediated by diagnosis concealment.
